It doesn't really function as a preamp volume either, like it doesn't add any drive or saturation the way a preamp knob would on a marshall or something. It's basically just the channel volume so that you can set up all your channels to be the same volume if you switch back and forth on the fly, that kind of thing.

This is the second time that I've watched this video, and my only complaint is that I can not see the body of Austin's guitar. It would be helpful to see which pick up he is using or how hard he is picking the strings on any of the given tones he is producing with the amp. That said, the videos, as well as the amp itself, are really quite good.

I am very interested in this amp. My friend owns a music store, and there is one available now. I have played through it using my 1973 Gibson ES-335, original pick-ups from 1973. Two things make me hesitate - 1. The clean channel seemed to require full volume on the amp, the master and my guitar controls, unless I turned up the gain, which would seem to mean it's not really "clean" anymore. This does not seem intuitive to me; maybe it's just the way this amp is designed? Most reviewers are saying the clean has plenty of power to cut through. It didn't feel that way to me. 2. Whenever I did turn up gain, or any of the booster effects, there was a lot of objectionable noise. Any insights you have would be appreciated!

You can save a preset by holding down one of the channel buttons until all three buttons light up. Once its saved you'll be able to bring it back without the pc.
Tones from the pc are all things that you could potentially make by adjusting the knobs on the amp, so theres no reason the amp can't save them.
Another tip is that you can use an android smartphone instead of a pc. (There may also be an apple app)
You just need a cable thats usb-B to whatever your phone takes.

@@xjunkxyrdxdog89 I was playing with the guy in the video with my comment. I wasn't giving any advice. Personally, I never intended to buy the Katana to begin with. I purchased a used Fender Champion 100 off Reverb and when I drove down to Bloomington IN to get it, they sold it before I got there. To show their gratitude, they gave me a brand new Katana Artist 100 for the 300 bucks I spent on the Fender. $599.00 is a lot of money to spend on a solid state amp when you can get a nice tube amp for around the same price. If I was to give any advice at all it would be this.... If you can find an Artist 100 for around 300.... Buy it, it's a great deal. If it's full price, don't. Just buy a nice tube amp. Either way, if you're not happy with the Katana 50, sell it. If the loop is the only thing bringing you down, look into a loop pedal or even step up to an E-Band JS-10. I bought one on Reverb for around $300.00. Looper, built in effects, beat machine, record yourself playing and then record over it. Modify songs to extract the guitar and you become the guitar player on the track. Change the tempo too. The best part, built in speakers so you can take it with you when you travel. I take mine on trips all the time. Just came back from Michigan. Played every chance I got. Just my 2 cents man, I'm sorry if my comment led you to buy the Boss Katana 50.

@@bluecollardiyer7248 I'm sorry if that came off like I was blaming you... I meant none of these videos tell you. I actually really appreciate the advice. I'm just hoping I can sell it for a decent price.
This gets a little complicated due to similar terms... when i say the 50 doesn't have an effects loop, I dont mean a looper pedal type effect. I mean it doesn't have send and return jacks.
This actually prevents using a looper pedal with the onboard effects. The only way to set one up would be guitar>looper>amp but then your loop would be effected by any tone changes made for the next loop/live play.
I've actually resorted to playing clean rhythm loops into an old 10w cheapo amp, and then using an a/b switcher to use the katana for my lead.

Great tones, versatile and great value for money.
But here's the downsides for me. There is no screen on the amp or an official Boss mobile phone for ultra convenient on the fly setting adjustment. The Boss Tone studio software looks amazing and is very comprehensive but you can only access it by hooking up to a windows based PC or tablet. Does everyone want to do that and there's a real danger you spend more time fiddling on the computer chasing that perfect tone rather than actually playing your guitar. For sheer plug and play flexibility for bedrooms players I feel these are big weaknesses. The unofficial third party katana librarian app partly addresses the issue but is not ideal.

I agree, I guess the Spark Positive Grid amp solves that problem...but I've heard (and read) that the Katana sounds better, I guess that's a subjective opinion

To the far right of the screen in your video, I'm not sure if you noticed it yet, but the green screen is causing the headstock of your guitar to disappear behind the digital wall. Just letting you know, who knows if you'll even see this, but maybe something you could improve on for your content maybe, just to make it that much better. Thank you for the video!

Great video, but I have a question how do I turn off all of the effects as I want to use my zoom 5GN pedalboard?. When I plug in my zoom the effects on the amp ‘override’ it.....so annoying!

My Katana has a light button for each effect ie. one for Booster and one for Modulation.

I feel like my Katana 50 sounds better through my headphones than
through the actual speaker. It's almost TOO fizzy/gainy and hollow. Does
anyone else have this problem or tips?

      @cary3428 4 роки тому +1

bassplyr13 Totally. Great little amp for the money, but the cab and speaker suck. There’s no extension jack, but a little custom wiring and I hook it to a pine cab with a 12”. Helps a lot.

Would you recommend the katana or the black star id series amps? I've owned both, a new katana MKII 50 limited edition white, and I had a black star ID: 260, That thing was amazing. I haven't gotten to actually play my katana yet because I'm waiting for my guitar to get here right now. So if you've played both amps, I'm interested in knowing what you're true thoughts are on both in comparison please. Even better, do a VS video maybe?

LMMProductions I figured, well...I use a Blackstar BEAM small amp as a practice amp and wanted to buy a half stack in case I start gigging again so I feel it would be a waste of time to buy the Boss amp although it is a great price. I carry the small Blackstar with me when I travel, dont want to do that with that Boss amp. I also thought about buying it and reselling it a bit higher lol
Its still in the box, makes me wonder if its “hot” too though...
