Congratulations to Max James and Frank Carson for all the time and work to getting a Jolly Green on static display USAFA. I was one of the few cadets of the class of 1971 who chose to fly helicopters and specifically HH-3Es. After I "retired" from USAF, I was hired by Helikopter Service to fly S61s to and from oil platforms and rigs in the North Sea out of Stavanger, Norway, for many years. When I returned to the U.S., I got a job with Frank Carson as a salesman. But after only a few months Frank and I both realized that I was not much of a salesman and was a better aviation writer than a salesman. We have stayed in touch, mostly at HeliExpo over the years. Frank is extremely innovative and I'm very thankful that he was involved in rebuilding a Jolly Green for USAFA.
With regards to everyone who worked so much to do this incredible job! Thank you all!

Beautiful, guys! I worked on 230 when it was pulled from the Boneyard in 1987 to be put back into service with the Air Force Reserve's 939th Rescue Wing, Portland, Oregon and was part of the team which retired her back to the Boneyard when we converted to the Pavehawk in 1992. I'm sure my name is on a few 781A "corrective action" blocks.
Congratulation on your fine works-of-art on display.
    Greg Gaunt, CSAR- 1985-2023.

I was a maintenance officer at the 305th at Selfridge. I thought we had 230 there for a while?

Hello from France. it's a pleasure to see a jolly green saved and restored. Bravo for your idea and a wonderful tribute to the personnel who served on board these units. Bes regards. 😊

Beautiful guy, indeed. I mean the Jolly Green Giant, lol! The whole story of CSAR people in Vietnam era is fascinating and encouraging. I may try to recreate this remarkable rotorcraft for Arma 3 game (if I find enough of reference materials) so that young people would understand better what it takes to saves others lives. Best wishes to all of you guys from Poland!

If this is an HH-3E helicopter where are the external fuel tanks

The HH-3 didn't have external tanks unlike the HH-53 which had them on the sponsons...

@@stevecasselman152 I was stationed at Udorn from Sep 1966 to Sep 1967. All of the HH-3E helicopters we had in our squadron had external fuel tanks. I have pictures to back up this. None had in flight refueling capabilities. I was a crew chief and flight engineer. If you do some research you will find this helicopter that is on display at Colorado Springs indeed does have external fuel tanks along with the refueling probe.

@@stevecasselman152 That is incorrect. I worked on both the CH-3E and the HH-3E.
