Wow! This is evidence that the goth scene doesn't need to dogmatically hang onto the 80s when we have music like this! Truly ground-breaking sounds for the scene not to mention the visual aesthetics. I absolutely love everything about this band!!!

I'm watching this video and for some reason it reminded me of a TV show that ran from 1968-70 called Strange Paradise. In retrospect the show was very into Goth, and you start to realize how much Goth culture has always been with us throughout history.
I would argue that goths have been around longer than governments and monotheism.

at first I wondered if this was Yami ... till I read the description... great song... and have ta say that "Dark" is insanely attractive...
Being goth is often misunderstood as a superficial fascination with darkness, exemplified by devil worship or excessive makeup. However, the essence of goth culture is much deeper and more nuanced. It is a poetic exploration of the human experience, with a particular focus on life's inherent pain and sorrow. This perspective is not about glorifying suffering, but rather about acknowledging and understanding it as a fundamental part of our existence.
That's not what goth is either.
Goth is a specific type of clothing preference.
It's also architecture.
Environment.
Sound engineering.
Poetry.
Lyrics.
Way of life.
Too often do people like you say goth is about suffering, it isn't. Goth is about loving the aesthetics, and there's many sub genres of it.
To be depressed is not to be goth, to be goth is not to be depressed. That's a stereotypical thing. Yes a lot of goths are most of the time "very chill" but you have goths who are very "anime character enthusiastic" you have vegetarian goths who respect Animals, you have witch goths. Goth is almost always Good. Very rarely is there a goth that's abusive. It's also incorrect to say goths only watch slasher/terror/horror films... very few goths like scary movies actually. But all goths like "Halloween aesthetics" it's apart of the culture.
I mean
There's a lot of goth styles and they aren't all based on Darkwave music. That's literally just trad goth but that was the most iconic goth style for sure, still is.

Pastel goth
Cyber goth 1990s
Cyber future goth
Steam punk goth/ rivet head
Victorian goth
Vampire goth
Business goth/corporate/corpo
Casual goth

There's even more than that, I'm personally working on making my own style + music and have plans to contribute to the goth culture. I think it looks phenomenal and this style respects trad goth.
And then you even have goth cousins like emo, alternative, metal head, coreKid.... and almost all of them stem from music influence going all the way back to Bach. Goth is pre-1900s. But really grew into what it is after the 1980s. Easy to say its at its peak today, with goths liking more than just darkwave. Now there's goth metal, goth deathcore, and they even had some goth 1950s music. Like it's deep. Ah yes of course, the goth styles in the 1950s started by The Munsters, The Adam's Family, Elvira, and one more lady I forgot the name of. See, goth is old and great. It wasn't started in the 1980s but became a huge culture in the 1980s, even bigger in the 1990s/2000s and after 2010 became a mainstream thing and now in the 2020s everyone knows what goth is and there's a huge deep culture to it + places to go + lots of famous music, movies, models, content created and even video games that got influenced. Dolls like Monster High, spawn was influenced by goth culture, see. It's deep.

glad to see the Goth scene is the exact same I encountered in my teens in the 90s
Not quite. It's even more. More shades of black. The scene opened quite a bit in the last 20 years to survive. Now you have not only darkwave, post-punk vibes and the people with the traditional goth-way of life. There are much more. Cyperpunk, EBM, Fetish, Medieval Rock Music groups quite a bit of heavy metal influenced it and steam-punk people joined as well. At least it is so here in Germany. But I think the UK asside with Germany has the most dense population of dark-scene people. But we lose a lot of young people. I think the median Age is around 30-35 years. And only a few teens are become addicted to this way of life. Because many people listen to that kind of music but that ones who really live their life that way are becoming less.
