It wasn't over in just 5 minutes, like you said. First there was the drive to Christiansborg Palace - the abdicating Queen in a carriage drawn by 6 white horses and escorted by the very colourful Gardehussars and the Crownprincely couple in a car. Then the proklamation from the balcony. Then the abdicated queen drove back to Amalienborg palace in the car, while the new King and Queen rode in the horsedrawn carriage through the streets of Copenhagen. That took more than an hour. At Amalienborg palace they reappeared on that balcony as well.
I'm Portuguese so I live in a republic and this is not better than a monarchy and the presidents have their privileges too! Long live the monarchy. We also have a king.
@sereneanna4040 In her latest new years eve speach to the Nation, Queen Margrethe minutes before she announced her Jan. 14th abdication also talked about the Hamaz terror attack and the suffering of the civilian Palestinians in Gaza due to the destruction by the israeli retaliation. She encouraged jews and Palestinians in danmark to not bring that conflict here. ----- For my own part, I must say, that the behaviour of the Netaniahu Government and the settlers on the West Bank, and now this in Gaza looks a lot like what was done to the Jews by the Nazies!!! Not a "good look"!! The normal Danish symphathy for Israel is wearing thinner day by day because of this. You need to know that!
The republicans haven'r grasped the important part of a monarchy, which is that the monarch is head of state - but with no government power. Yes, they inherit the position and don't have to be elected - which means they are free of political intrigues and economic special interests. Therefore they can unite the people in a unique way - and better than an elected president, because only those who voted for him would feel represented by him. And see what a monarch can do for his people in a time of war - look at Christian X of Denmark and Haakon 7. of Norway during ww2. Give me a monarchy anytime.

There is something very toy town or disneyesque about the Danish monarchy. Being appointed King by the sitting prime minister, I just don’t see the point in that. Might as well be a president.
Traditions are not just there to be traditions, they have meaning. Denmark had the full ceremonial crowning that Britain still uses, but it was done away with after the end of absolutism because it had no place in a Constitutional Monarchy. The old ceremonies came out of the Absolutist Monarchy, where the King was there by the grace of God rather than at the will of the people. The Prime Minister is THE representative of the will of the people in the nation, and as such it is fitting that the PM appoints the King, as the King of a Constitutional Monarchy is the King of the people, by the will of the people and not a divinely mandated superior. The new traditions have just as much meaning as the old, even if they are less elaborate, and the old traditions no longer represent the spirit of the Kingdom of Denmark nor the people of Denmark. This should not be taken as a slight against the UK or its traditions, the people of the UK have different meanings attached to their traditions and the position of King, it is their choice what they do. However to Danish sensibilities the UK traditions are weird, anachronistic and not fit for a democratic nation with democratic traditions.
That's a shame no pomp and ceremony in Denmark not allowed, you got to give people something a run I don't know it's not the same😂😂 Yes but if it's not privileges being the king or queen, there is privileges in other walks of life politicians film stars etc
pomp and ceremony is allowed in Denmark - we just don't do coronations anymore, haven't done them for hundreds of years , we do have other Royal ceremonies
King Frederick and Queen Mary it's about time Congratulations Denmark's.

She is perfect 🇨🇦💝
Adorable how these old ladies have the tiny crown on their heads. They are probably queens in their own right!
That is a Tiara/ Diadem not Crown. And Queen Margrethe ii was the Queen in her own right, that's why her eldest Child is now King.
Je souhaite que l'avenir apporte encore beaucoup d'amour à ce couple royal. Avec les 4 enfants et les familles ! ❤❤❤

We don't crown our kings in Denmark. It's a proclamation.
More like appoint.

A suggestion: Watch the Norwegian movie "The kings choice" - and you will understand the relationship between monarchy and democracy in Scandi.

There’s still a lot to be desired on lying and cheating by the new King.
