I also think a in universe way of explaining it would be that this a humourous song making fun of nukes dropping and that since they actually dropped it'd be in poor taste too play this on the radio out of respect for the people who actually died and that they infact didn't all go together when it dropped. However out of universe the Devs wanted too pay homage too this song so they titled that side mission after it
@@BlackHippy313 Oh crap. How old are you? We had nuke drills starting in elementary school. Made kids very nervous. The point is that that nukes take out a lot more than just those bombed. Fallout, nuclear dust, no food, environmental disaster. Nobody gets out alive. We were expecting it any day back then. Check the date. The Russians were coming for us, and everybody "knew" that.
We will all flame together when we flame Our cremations all proceeding much the same We'll leave nothing to incriminate ourselves, as we incinerate ourselves, with no one left to cast the blame We will all roast together when we roast We'll leave the world to rats and cockroaches at most Let's hope they know what's coming at them Should they learn to split the atom Humankind is done, and overdone as toast
Those verses are great! May I humbly add: We will all blaze together when we blaze, As the girls are grilled and boys all get a braise, As we spit and stew and smoulder, Turning crisper, browner, golder, We will steam and scold until the end of days! (And maybe also) We will all cool together when we cool, Post the blast and fire I am sure that you’ll Chill in the nuclear winter While you slowly disinter- Grate inter little pieces minuscule!
Thanks again. I found it looking through Tom Lehrer videos and trying to reach those that love and understand this very underrated man's work. I made a political satire dedicated to him that you might enjoy: ua-cam.com/video/FC0sgkjuEWs/v-deo.html It is a slow build and long, but I think it's worth it in the end. Love for Lehrer to see it himself. So glad so many people remember him-- but I spread the word as much as possible.
The fact that this song is about atomic hellfire, written in the 1950s and never made it into fallout is an absolute crime.
There's a achievement in New Vegas named after this song called "we'll all go together" where you return 10 irradiated NCR dogtags.

It’s a little too self aware and satirical to be an in-universe element of the Fallout world I think. Though it would make a fun trailer song

A brilliant wordsmith, whose piano mastery was incidental to his many other achievements.

Proof that "look it up" is quite an old phrase much of the crowd could be expected to and did react.
If a nuclear war does occur, and I'm in the affected area, you can bet your ass the last thing I'll do is play this.
hey, it's a great way to go out
This is such a genius song, the rythming with half words has to be harder than not doing so
I want to read Hen3ry's novel about the Necrophiliac...I feel like it would be more humorous than it was intended.
Yea for some reason I do to
So weird to think that 59 years ago there were less than 3 billion people and now it's closer to 8 billion than it is to 7 billion
4:50 The best line! Love Tom Lehrer, still crazy after all these years!
I know, right? And anyone born after 1980 is wondering why it is such a big laugh.
@@MatthewDaly please explain to me a dumb genz gcse student sent here during quarantine
you guys don't play Monopoly?
Matthew Daly people still know what monopoly is lol. good line in the song though
One of the best pieces of black comedy ever written.
And it seems to be getting to be as prescient now as it seemed in 1959...
This dude was not afraid of anything.
“Death? I have tea with her each Sunday.”
What's more is that he's still alive. Tom Lehrer is 90 years old and living comfortably.
Tom doesn’t escape death. He just bewilders and distracts death until she forgets why she’s even there.
this song is roller coaster of emotions
'If we burn, you will burn with us.' How positive is this in this song??!!
The "Life is like …" quote is at 1:27.
This is just As The World Caves In with a completely opposite vibe.
Pretty much
is it weird i find this comforting?
No :)
the rocky mountains snows are not regenerating nor keeping up with the melts

You guys should listen to Tony Goldmark’s cover. 🙂
TODAY, I Am VERY OPTIMISTIC..... The KIDS and YOUTH BRINGs HOPE !!!! :-)
C'mon this is genius...
Can the actual song have a different time than your intro? I kinda wanna be able to hear the whole thing.
Depends on how we go!
Hen3ry disliked this video. xD

I guess the '3' wasn't silent after all.

Bend Oregon Safest place in a Nuclear War
really really need to get rid of the awful music at the start
honestly i agree, i wouldn't call it awful but certainly unnecessary and disrupts tom lehrer's music
