      Secret that shoudn't be a secret: like a dog or cat the bonsai needs daily attention. 100% of times I've heard about mistakes on watering was because the person check the bonsai 2x times a week or somehing like that. Just imagine taking care of a dog just 2x times a week.

    What’s the best bonsai soil?

    • @GuitarraErudita
      @GuitarraErudita Місяць тому +1

      Acadama is the golden one, but even having this u gonna need something else to add to make the soil a dry one. The roots needs to "breath". I use acadama at the botton part of the soil + a mix of: good quality bonsai soil + broken red tile (this is to make it more dry, around 20 to 40%). A very safe way to avoid mistakes is to always ask the bonsai professional u bought your bonsai, and if its no the case find one at the place you live; of course a so good info like what this channel provides is important as well.
      Hope this helps u. Best.

    How do you get smaller leaves?

    • @bonsaibarn
      @bonsaibarn  28 днів тому +2

      Leaf size is influenced by a combination of factors, including the following:
      1. Genetics
      • Some species naturally produce smaller leaves (e.g., Chinese Elm or Japanese Maple), making them better suited for bonsai.
      • Conversely, trees with naturally large leaves (e.g., Oak) require more effort and techniques to reduce leaf size.
      2. Pruning Techniques
      • Frequent pruning, both of branches and leaves, encourages the tree to produce smaller foliage. This includes defoliation and pinching new growth.
      3. Light Exposure
      • Trees in brighter light tend to grow smaller, denser leaves, while those in low light may grow larger leaves to capture more sunlight.
      4. Nutrient Availability
      • Reduced access to nutrients, through careful fertilization or limited soil volume, can help control leaf size. Excessive nutrients, especially nitrogen, promote larger leaves.
      5. Watering Practices
      • Overwatering can encourage lush, vigorous growth, resulting in larger leaves. Careful watering, tailored to the species, supports smaller leaf growth.
      6. Environmental Conditions
      • Seasonal conditions (e.g., temperature, humidity, and growing season length) affect leaf size. Cooler climates may result in more compact growth.
      7. Root Size and Pot Size
      • Smaller pots restrict root development, limiting the overall vigor of the tree and indirectly influencing leaf size. However, this is just one factor among many.
      In Summary
      Root size and pot size are important but not the sole determinants of smaller leaf size. A holistic approach, combining pruning, environmental control, and proper care, is required to consistently achieve smaller leaves on a bonsai.
