Mark old son I’ve been watching your channel since the beginning , it makes me laugh ,you’ve been testing forever , pushing the boundaries on everything golf related , you don’t swim with the current , you’ve been saying all this stuff for years and the net and general opinions are catching up posting videos confirming subjects you did ages ago . Never stop bruh , people always need someone to pick on , but you are great at this , good work guys . I think we have never been so fortunate to have clubs with such tech , you could really buy any brand and they will be good clubs , it does come back to personal preference or looks and feel , and as a creature of habit we tend to always go from past experience with brands we’ve had success .

Cleveland CBX's have changed my game. I played second-hand Vokeys, Wilson FG Tour, Cleveland RTX, but recently picked up the CBX wedges. You'll have to pry them from my dead hands. As a 16 hcp, the CBX's forgiveness inspires so much confidence. Misses are much less pronounced and still keep you close to your target.

TXG actually tested them and found out that they are as consistent or even better than other wedges. Spin numbers equal also. So why should anyone game those fancy SM8:s when you can get more consistency and equal spin with CBX.

So much sense spoken in this video. So much understanding from the consumer perspective and the manufactures perspective. Incredibly helpful. Mark and Coach, just stop it would you? Just make videos of new drivers bombing it the furthest! Stop being so unique and helpful on UA-cam to us golfers! Stop being so biased and praising brands you don’t play.....sheeeeesh. I was in the market for buying some new wedges this year, got totally confused with how many options are out there. In the end I ordered some Ben Hogan equaliser wedges. I am absolutely over the moon With them, I would recommend anyone to give them a go. When you order the wedges all you need to know is your loft and lie options, shaft no confusing bounce and ground options.

I've been using Cleveland's since the mid-90s. Having said that, I'm currently gaming Vokey SM7s as I was playing Titleist irons. I've not got the Titleists in the bag anymore, so I'm thinking that I'll go back to Cleveland with my next change.

That last comment about fitting is so interesting. I’ve been for numerous fittings through my golfing life and I’ve never seen wedges in a fitting cart or ever been fitted for wedges. Even when I bought a complete new set up, I got completely fitted properly for irons and was then just given the wedges that complimented the set in the lofts that created the right gap in loft. Looking back now I should have been testing them properly for bounce etc.

Club Champion did a blind test where the fitter handed me wedges and we did a test on a lie board with a sticker to see where my impact was. Basically their goal was to find the wedge that had the right bounce / grind for my swing as every manufacturer is slightly different. Their attitude was every wedge option they have can get you great results as they're all very similar, but you need the one who's sole and grind fit your swing the best. In my case, it was down to the Cleveland RTX and Vokey SM8s, and I preferred the feel of the Vokeys. But I got fit by them for my previous set 2 years ago into the Callaway MD3 Forged series, and those wedges did very well for me! So yeah, get fit... especially on the scoring clubs where it counts the most (and that include the putter).

The largest pro shop in my area does a multivendor weekend every year. All the big brands bring full sets geared towards different target golfers. You can wander around and try nearly every new club on the market. The range balls are free and fittings can be scheduled with the pro shop and some of the venders can launch monitor fit on the spot. I go even when not really looking to buy.

The best wedges are the ones that work in your hands and give you confidence to take on tricky shots!

When I bought my wedges it came down to Glide 3.0 and Jaws as they both give a little extra help. I chose the Glide as they had a matt finish and the Jaws was gloss and I was afraid of glare. Previously I had only used the PW ans SW from my old Callaway x16 set. I'm sure any dedicated wedge would've improved my game but the Glides are really, really good and look great.

I had a fantastic wedge fitting experience at Precision Golf last month. I tried Mack Daddy 5, SM8, Cleveland RTX, Ping Glide 3.0, Ping Glide forged, T20, Cobra. Really wanted to like the T20 (I've got HMBs in the bag) and the Callaways and hadn't even considered Ping. After the fitting, I hated the SM8s, was indifferent to Mack Daddy and RTX, sadly wasn't keen on the T20s and ended up absolutely loving the Ping Glide forged and 3.0, hitting them the best by far. Now have Glide forged 50°, 56° bent to 55° and 60°, all with KBS C-taper lite stiff shafts, all with adjusted swing weights (D2.8, D3, D3.5) and head weight (+3 grams). Golf Pride CP2 grips, which are great and allow me to grip down without the grip becoming overly thin. And the wedges are amazing! Thanks to Precision Golf too!

Worth looking at the ping or cbx for a gap wedges for mid handicappers. My short game isn't to bad but we underestimate how often we hit these clubs for second shots or after we have hacked out of the trees (well I did anyhow) . Thus is why I changed my vokey 50 which was a bit worn after lockdown for a glide. Very happy with it. As a side effect I'm hitting more bump and runs with my gap. I didn't realise I was missing the bounce go these shots. I guess that kinda proves your point as I discovered this by accident after I had spent the money.

The best wedge is the one I can set behind the ball and have confidence I can get the non-full shot I have in my head. For a lot of reasons, mostly related to the ability to get a lower notional top-line when I open up the club face, I think Cobra's little middle carve out does the job. I stand by the idea that so long as you're looking at a wedge and thinking about a full swing, might as well have a wedge that best compliments the rest of your iron set. It's once you start pulling a wedge and thinking about bump & run or flop or partial shot that you start getting into the idea of a wedge that best helps you pull off a non-full shot you have pictured, whatever that is.

Cobra Speedzone 44 degree pitching wedge (part of the set). So, NO BRAND LOYALTY at all - I knew what lie, loft and bounce I wanted and just kept testing them until I found what I liked for each wedge. Even I am surprised I have 4 different brands for 5 wedges but they just tested the best for me.

I purchased the Cleveland UHX irons earlier this year and post lockdown have been playing the best golf for years. Yes the lofts are strong but I'm hitting less club into targets so win/win. Anyhoo, the stock UHX PW is 44 degrees and the D (gap) wedge is 49 so I've bought the Cleveland CBX2 SW which at 54 degrees fits with the set. FWIW I'm currently still gaming the Cleveland RTX4 lob (60 degree) at present but am considering a 58 or 60 degree CBX2. I won't deny the occasional ball spin back with the CBX2 SW is influencing this decision!

Then have a Vokey SM7 5808M to finish. All have their role and purpose and do what I need. Used ro have 60degree but was short. Now feel confident and scores have improved. Colours are gimmicks.

My short game is the only bit of my game working at the moment and it's all down to my Mizuno's. I can change the loft by opening up the face or just as happy with a full shot which makes them so versatile.

I have the T20’S 52 AND 58 in different grinds and love them, I like the shape and because they matched the MP20’s in the bag. You are right about the lack of info on the sole though. Hard to see the numbers on the back of the wedges

I have some 20 year old Wilson Staffs. So sharp you can shave with them. Chipped up and grooves are worn, but i just regripped them for like the 5th time. You can have those when you pry them from my cold dead fingers.

I needed new wedges, and went through a Taylormade fitting. Found out that with my distance gapping, I got by with a 54 and a 60. Also loved the grinds and options they offered. I just found that the Taylormade MB’s worked for me after a lot of demo’s at our practice green and the fitting. I can’t agree with Mark more. Spend as much time as possible trying different models and shots.

Looks, color and shaft options are what I look at. Right now, I went with Mizuno S-18 wedges because I was able to get them in the same shaft as my irons. Other manufacturers did not offer the KBS shaft I was looking for or did not offer a choice at all.

All comes down to confidence. Whatever wedges gives you the most confidence standing over the ball will perform the best.
I've always liked Cobra but they weren't in this test.

Ping Glide wedges are underrated and can hold their own against the vokeys in the higher lofts for those technical bunker shots. Currently using T20 Gap & sand with Glide3 for the lob.

I currently game a mix of Callaway and Vokey. I used to game Cleveland, Roger Cleveland is now with Callaway which is one reason I decided to try the MDs. I recently pulled the trigger on a new Cobra MIM to give it a shot. The Vokeys are getting quite chunky in spots I don't like chunky, feel like I like my older versions better... They all kind of steal from each other and I don't think there is much tech that is changing in that space no matter how much they market. It comes down to which one you can put next to the hole...

I've got a Cobra trusty rusty 60, and a Cleveland 54. Both in black finish, but with as different of bounce/grind as I could find.

I got fitted with my SM7s last year at Titleist Canada. Cost $100. Got new ProVs as a gift AND the $100 applied to the 3 new wedges.

This is perfect because I'm actually in for a wedge fitting this week!
I've never used Vokeys before but my thought process is exactly as you said, they have the most fitting options and the best fitting cart at my club so that's what I'm going with.

Confidence is everything with wedges I think. A club that gives you confidence at address is very very important so I guess the more options the better as we are all different and what makes me feel confident over a shot won’t be the same for someone else. It’s much more subjective for wedges I think. Also my old wedges (mizuno tp19, Cleveland tour action 588) are still able to spin the ball really well so I do also think spin is over sold in the wedge market.

Big fan of Ping wedges! Currently got Glide steal the in my bag with i210 irons! Devastated that they dropped the stealth finish for the 3.0's! I would still go for the 3.0 when the time comes though as the look & performance just suit me!!

The best wedge is the one that has the right amount of bounce and sole grind to suit your delivery. Find what works best for your swing and the conditions you play in. The rest is marketing.
I do prefer Mizuno having the loft and bounce off the sole because there is nothing to scuff or chip the paint fill.

I'm lucky that the Titleist rep brings lots of wedges to our fitting days. We can try different grinds/bounces off of turf, sand etc. There are a lot of Vokey wedges in play at my club as a result.

As a high handicapper the best wedge is the one that gets me out of bunkers first time, I currently use a cheap Alien 2 Wedge for this.

Very hard also as a leftie to really test any wedges. Only time I had an opportunity was with titleist when I could test the wedges and bounces/grinds in sand, behind a bunker near a green etc. ended up with the sm7 at that time. Am thinking about an all purpose wedge including for sand, from rough, around green, lob not so much full shots- so a 56 or 58 but hard to decide given what I said above. There is a lot good said about almost every wedge so depends what you listen to. Myself I never liked the looks of the ping wedges - had them and gave them up. So one option is to go for a wedge that matches the same brand as the irons or else stick to vokeys - the sm8 at present unless one takes a chance on something like the Ben hogan equalizer 2. Tough one. Indeed my sm7 fitting resulted in a low bounce option (04) which works very well for me. 😏

I’m a 2 brand wedge player. Been with TM 54 or 56 low bounce and Titleist 60 with a big ol fat bottom for a couple years now. Varying feels for different shots. Feel like it gives me more options(all in my head)
