My supplies are on order and have yet to make a rug, but just wondering if projecting from the rear would work, so your body is not creating shadows as you trace.
Where do you get your yarn? I make sure to trim the fabric shorter on the side closer to where the yarn is at that way It doesn’t get caught into it and I also put those metal eyelets on the top of the wood on the outer part of it so that it’s less likely to get tangled and more easily unraveled. Sometimes if the yarn is starting to tangle, I will flip the yarn roll to the other side and that usually does the trick. If you really wanted to you could always just draw a design on the tufting cloth, go crazy man lol. As long as you have a gun, cloth and yarn you’re good to go. But if you want exact images/copies the projector will save you a lot of grief. Hope this helps!

When you put the whole thing of yarn on your frame does it ever get tight and pull out of the gun? Mine always gets tight or tangle
