The problem is that if individuality is but a reflection of the real, the reality of the self is undermined in a crucial way. It becomes possible to depreciate the self potentiality violently or oppressively. This is the risk of religious teachings that posit an eternal truth separate from the human; why act ethically?

That is a wonderful analogy of the one sun and the many surfaces - as a counter to solipsism.
But this escape root itself exists in consciousness.
Consider the case of other people as they appear in dreams. Despite the above analogy do they have an independent consciousness apart from the dreamer?
They seem to have all the characteristics of real people but of course they do not exist only the avatar of the dreamer does.
I actually do not think the problem of solipsism is objectively solvable as even Kant admitted despite his elaborate metaphysical system aimed at just this problem.
I am sorry to bring this problem up yet again and I dont suppose it is answerable when so expressed but it does haunt my mind continually and I just thought you might be interested by my thinking on it.

i will answer this question of where does the ignorance exists, in Brahman or individual soul? The answer is simple by giving an example. I as a person, dreaming and in my dream having millions of characters/living things/ billions of galaxies. Does any of the living thing/individual in my dream has ignorance? No , because they are non existent. similarly, Brahman is dreaming (since we have dreams, brahman also has the right to dream, no one can question that). And in that dream of brahman, there are lot of characters/living things like us. We do not have ignorance. Brahman also does not have ignorance. It is dreaming. or we can say Brahman is fantazising and creating in its mind several characters or world. So, all are illusion. One brahman is real and ONE.

This is a question which has no concrete answer because the question deals with subject which never exists. The individual entity, Atma chittam, ahamkar embodied with gross when light of Atma shines in it, individuality is projected but again this individuality is not what we think as individuality. Its just a bunch of thoughts perceptions, ego forms personality. One who drops differentiated perceptions feelings, enters into Nirvikalpa Samadhi. In that state, there's no identity. Only eternal brahman.
Like first, experiencer, experienced dies out = disappearance of identity.
Then what remains is objective awareness of experience alone. = Dissolve that too.
What remains is the Seer. Witnesser. This witnesser is antaryami. The Paramatma who resides in all Jivas. The distniction between activity and knower of activity remains here still.
Then with deep meditation dissolve that Witnesser too. Who remains?
Nothingness, void, shunya, = the existential nature of Brahman remains shines in its purest form here.

@@akshaysize you know, that story you shared actually reminds me of what it's like to have "Brahmin Consciousness". Take it with a grain of salt or however you like but during and after my Samadhi's (maybe not Nirvikcalpa but very very high) I remember looking at people and seeing the Brahmin in them, in everything and then just now connecting the dots that my consciousness reflects the truth in my reality.
So this is some crazy shit but basically what I am saying is, when Adi Shankar's was asked this question, the dialogue played out as though to affirm the consciousness of God that the master weilded.
ah! So difficult to word this... When you are looking out at the truth, the truth is all you can see. Adi Shankara's consciousness could only play out that scenario you shared.

If God is perfect then why did he/she/it felt an urge to create human beings? in other words, what caused Brahman to fragment into atmans? Some imperfection? Brahman must have a slight imperfection like the slight tremor that triggered the Big bang a metastable singularity point of a matter. Brahman is probably slightly imperfect, it tries to reach perfection through individual atmans, but will never succeed and will keep on undergoing Big band type of creation to reach perfection till eternity-cycles upon cycles, the never-ending process to reach perfection, which is just an idea. Experience your moksha but it is only temporary because it has a built-in imperfection, you will recycle forever, there is no escape for Brahman or atman, there is no such thing as perfection if there was then there is no need for any existence.

Shivaprasadji, you yourself are Brahman, the existence-consciousness-bliss. You exist, you’re conscious and you have in yourself an infinite potential for bliss. Still you’re talking as though Brahman is out there somewhere and you don’t have anything to do with it. This is nothing but the Avidya present in Brahman, isn’t it? That’s all Advaitha is saying. All of us (appearing as many)...yourself, Nirjhar Dasji, Swami Sarvapriyananda, Sri Shankaracharya, myself, rest of the universe...all this is one Brahman covered by a cloud of maya(in which Avidya and Ahankara and many other attributes are present). Anything you name, must be present in Brahman only. Where else can it be? Brahman, the existence is all there is.
This verse comes in Skanda Puraan by Maharshi Veda Vyas.
"Na bandhosti na mokshosti brahmaivaasti niramayam; Naikamasti na cha dvitvam satchitkaaram vijrimbhate."
Meaning: There is neither bondage nor liberation, only Brahman is everywhere. There is neither Advaita nor Dwaita. Only Existence Consciousness Bliss is shining forth.
There is no use arguing about Advaitha or Dwaitha or what so ever. They’re all wonderful tools to help Brahman realise Brahman, if at all needed. Otherwise is fine too...provided one is happy to continue as a miserable Brahman. A good day to both of you, Nirjharji and Shiva Prasadji 😀

Wonderful... Well, according to me... Jeeva requires many things to support themselves. Like the existence of a whole system where reproduction can exist. So, when reproduction can exist, he forgets that he's existence and involves in exploring newly created Jeeva through reproduction. So, Motherhood or Mother is that transition, where ignorance may arise. But you see, a mother herself knows the reality or is Brahman, but the child doesn't know. So, to summarize Mother = Brahman, Child = Jeevathma, as Time went on, more and more mothers forgot... And eventually, a chain reaction where future generations forgot Brahman...
    Thanks...

No where in the Prasthana thraya bhashya did Srisamkara mention that Avidya is in Brahman. Instead his support goes to Avidya in Jeeva only. This we can see in his commentary on 2nd Sloka of 12th chapter Bhagavad-Gita. Here he says "To whom is this Avidya? His,by whom it is seen. .... He who is affected by it will remove
it. "The questioner says "Now,that nesciece is mine".So you know nescience and it's owner that is you -Srisamkara replies thus. Earlier also in the same commentary he clarifies this by saying -"The defect leading to mis apprehennsion, etc exists in the eye, the instrument of cognition and not in the cognizer.when the ee is cure by right treatment, the cognizer's vision cases to to be defective.Similarly non-apprehension,etc are due to the defects of instruments of perception and not of the field-knower who perceives." So the confusion starts when logic takes the place of Universal -Intuition .And secondly thinking that all this happened really in time and space keeping a cause and effect process.

Adwaitam - absolute absurdity/ verbal trickery, as usual.
For Eka Jeeva Vaada, he gives the example of sun’s reflection from many drops of water that are sprinkled. For that to be acceptable, the water drops have to be real. They cannot be false and illusory. That is not acceptable to Adwaitham either because, that means you have to accept two reals and this leads to Adwaitham falling apart.
The locus of Avidya or ignorance, he gives two view points - one saying it is Brahman and the other saying it is Jeeva. So what is it? There is no uniformity of thought among the Adwaitic schools meaning that Shankara ‘s Tattwam is confusing. Its adherents are confused and give their own interpretation.
The locus of Avidya cannot be in Brahman because the Brahman is all powerful - so nothing can cloud it. It cannot be in the Jeeva either because the Jeeva is the effect while Avidya is the. cause. The cause cannot have the effect as its locus.
Whichever way you look at it, Adwaitham is nothing more than verbal trickery. It appeals to the logically challenged.

Replying to you once again, because I see you are going on commenting on swamiji's videos to mislead people.
The example of sun and water drops is just to present the matter of reflection in a simple manner, It involves no philosophical implications.
It is not that for brahman to get reflected, the reflecting medium must be real. If you have carefully listened to what swamiji said, you will get the answer from the video it self.
In a barbar shop two mirrors are placed facing each other, and both of them reflect the image of each other.
The reflected image of the 1st mirror in the 2nd mirror, inturn shows the reflection of the 2nd mirror that is reflected from the first mirror. So, the reflected image of the mirror is not a real mirror, yet it shows a reflection(which is also not real). So, the reflecting medium need not be real to show reflection.
It may be said, 'there must have been two real reflecting surfaces at first for the reflection to happen!', the answer is - there is no need for two reflecting surfaces because brahman gets reflected in it self.
Both positions on the locus of avidya can be successfully defended, but for the sake of saving time I will go with 'locus of avidya in brahman'.
This doesn't mean brahman is affilicted with ignorance. It is there as there is venom in the snake, as sword in the scabbard. It is there but it doesn't affect its holder.
Also ignorance is there only from the empirical perspective. From the paramarthika view point, there is no avidya at all.
Avidya conceals the vritti jnana of brahman(modal knowledge) but it can not conceal the swarupa jnana of brahman(knowledge nature of brahman), because swarupa jnana is in the paramarthika plane where concept of avidya doesn't arise.
So, the concealing nature of avidya is also not contradictory to knowledge nature of brahman.
The different schools of advaita doesn't speak of opposite concepts, rather they justify each other's point of view. When jeeva is said to be the locus of avidya it is said only from the absolute sense (as brahman) but when jeeva is said to be the effect of avidya it is said from the empirical sense.
Here, swami didn't go into the arguments for saving time but that doesn't mean there are no answers to them.
I will not use any disgraceful phrase to describe other philosophies as you are doing, but I have no problem to say that those who find advaita 'confusing', are either immature or lack enough clarity of mind and the ability to grasp subtle truth presented by swamiji.
      Thank you.

I am giving comment to enlighten people. It is Adwaitins who are misleading people - selling a foolish and untenable Tattwam as correct Tattwam. When challenged and questioned they cannot defend it.
So much for their logical thinking ability.

Nothing is untenable in advaita. Your statement is like those of fanatic Christian preachers, who go and shout out at a non christian gathering- 'repent, sinners!!'
All objections are beautifully refuted by advaitins, one just needs to check them out, otherwise it is much easier to be happy with one's own logic and think 'ours is the end of all logic and everyone else's is untenable'.
And, sometimes dvaitins deliberately bypass the answers given by advaitins, for looking deep into them may reveal the validity of the advaitins doctrine.
      Thanks.

Are you understanding what I am writing? I am saying that the Tattwam of Adwaitam itself is untenable. In the example given in the talk, you need TWO reals - the Brahman and the Upadhi - the sun and the water droplets. When you have more than one real, your Adwaitham falls flat on its face.
What is the locus of this ignorance - is it Brahman or Jeeva? Either way, the Tattwam falls flat. Think and answer.

i will answer this question of where does the ignorance exists, in Brahman or individual soul?
