had to buy two versions of the the same album as they took out this version of the track in later releases and replaced it with the Macy gray version. Like both versions but this is my favorite.
Killing myself searching for a part i of the track when i realized that this was common giving homage to The Family Stand - Ghetto Heaven
Thank you for the explanation! I just baught the album on wax and was so confused when this track came on. I was happy tho, bcs the macy gray cut was the only thing keepin lwfc from being a 10/10 imo, and this version is miles better
Wow never can find this version online for some reason thanks for posting this. First time I heard it I tripped out bc I never remember hearing this version in the album I bought until I got educated about the track and this version.
👍
low key better than the macy gray cut
Hi key better, too
“Low key” is crazy
I’m so sick this was replaced with the Macy gray version. Does anybody know why?? 😩🥺
Excuse me while I connect my laptop to the big speakers with sub bass.
Okay. Proceed.
🙂
idg the title of the album can anyone explain?
The title is based off of the movie of the same name. It's actually a good movie. Google it.
Like Water For Chocolate has multiple meanings basically.
- 1) "Like water for chocolate" comes from the Spanish phrase 'como agua para chocolate'. The phrase is a metaphor used to describe someone when they're angry or heated since in most hispanic countries, hot chocolate is prepared by adding hot water to chocolate. So when a person is heated, they're heated *like water for chocolate*
- 2) Common also got the title inspiration from the 1992 Spanish movie 'Like Water For Chocolate' where the main character was a chef who would always cook food and put her emotions and soul into the food and people would feel those emotions when they eat her food. Common viewed the effort and soul that he put into this album/his music as being the same.
- 3) The album cover also has a black 'chocolate' woman drinking from a coloured only water fountain. This album in particular had a lot of black music influence and afro-centric themes, so I guess Common viewed his music as being a basic essential for people to consume whilst they're living through their struggles just like water was for 'chocolate' people during the 50s.
