At first I thought maybe Namco might not want to include it due to the first Ip Man film's story but I later came across a tweet where Harada said it was stated in a will that Wing Chun never be taught to Japanese. All I can say is wow, I'm so glad Namco decided to incorporate it into their series, and to have it represented by an African American to really nail the point home that anyone can learn martial arts and become a martial artist. I'm Chinese but I wonder how many people in China are / were offended by this character design. Hong Kong cinema has some really great stuff. I would highly recommend watching Operatio Scorpio for those who haven't even heard of it. Trust me, it's awesome.

Not sure if you know, the so-called Wing Chun moves in the movies are not exactly Wing Chun. At least at 0:49 the move is from Hung Ka(洪拳) and 0:33 is clearly not a Wing Chun kick. Moreover A Wing Chun practitioner will never make such a dangerous post in 1:39. And the move at 2:28 is for counter attacking the front kick, not deliberately grasp the leg.
The more of these videos that I see, the more I realize that Tekken is more of a fan service franchise than a game with a truly unique roster. I only recognized Law as Bruce Lee back in the day (I only played 1-3. That was in the 90s. The references went over my head)
Probably some people do not understand that the company was not supposed to show realistic fights in the past. That's why the Tekkend game looked like it was meant to be. Now it is changing because the players are changing and the company is adapting to the customer. People want more realistic fights, that's what they give them. Simple and that's about it.

See, Ip man in his time had mastered Wing Chun but a lot of people don't mention the influences he experienced and even applied various techniques himself. In many cases, this is considered taboo as you are mainly practicing traditionally.

During his era of martial arts, a lot of people focused on a singular style rather than continuously improving techniques by fusing them. Even wing Chun had its turmoil when different sides of the same style differed due to one side choosing to focus on adaptation rather than sticking to traditional roots. And that caused wing Chun to split into different factions. So it is considered taboo to take other styles to make a different one. Of course nowadays many martial arts have evolved to what is mainstream martial arts with many borrowing similar styles and improving their techniques. But Ip Man did nothing wrong, in fact if it werent for that, he probably wouldn't have become what is considered a grandmaster in Wing Chun.

See, Ip man in his time had mastered Wing Chun but a lot of people don't mention the influences he experienced and even applied various techniques himself. In many cases, this is considered taboo as you are mainly practicing traditionally.

During his era of martial arts, a lot of people focused on a singular style rather than continuously improving techniques by fusing them. Even wing Chun had its turmoil when different sides of the same style differed due to one side choosing to focus on adaptation rather than sticking to traditional roots. And that caused wing Chun to split into different factions. So it is considered taboo to take other styles to make a different one. Of course nowadays many martial arts have evolved to what is mainstream martial arts with many borrowing similar styles and improving their techniques. But Ip Man did nothing wrong, in fact if it werent for that, he probably wouldn't have become what is considered a grandmaster in Wing Chun.
