  • Here is a video of the snakes in my collection that are rear fanged.
    Baron's Racers (Philodryas baroni)
    Madagascar Cat-eyed Snakes (Madagascarophis colubrinus)
    Black-headed Spotted Whip Snake (Hemorrhois ravergieri)
    Correction: My whip snakes actually originate from Uzbekistan.

    Awesome collection, been thinking about getting into baroni myself. Those are beautiful specimens, I wasn’t aware the females got such a substantial size.

      You should! They are great animals, and yes females get very large.

    CORRECTION: My Black-headed Spotted Whip snakes are actually from a line out of Uzbekistan. Hard for me to keep my 'stans straight.

    I just discovered you tonight, thanks to a link someone shared on a Colubrid page I follow on Facebook. Back in the 60's I was living in Malaysia, courtesy of the British Army, for three years. I cut my teeth on the snakes out there. One of my favourite common species out there was the Long-nosed whip snakes or tree snakes. They are rear-fanged and considered "harmless" They have those amazing elliptical pupils and adjacent grooves along the sides of the face that gives them binocular vision. They are the most interesting of snakes eternally curious and gentle. Non-biters. When picked up straight from the wild they offer no resistance and all they want to do is come close to your face and have a good look at you! Unnerving at first if you know nothing about them. I would be still keeping them today if it wasn't for the fact that they are lizard eaters. I had a constant supply of house geckos available for them Anyway nice to meet you, Glen. I have liked, subbed and rung the bell.

    Do you ever breed/ sell the black headed spotted whip snakes by chance?? I love underrated reptiles and those definitely seem to fit the bill on that. I hadn't heard of them until now.

    Do the snakes at 6:55 have any morphs? They have a dark albino color to them. I’m surprised you don’t see them on UA-cam videos.

      @wakenbaker-uk no absolutely not! I don’t use bins. I’m of the opinion If you can’t kee an animal in an adequate vivarium don’t get them atall. I have some empty vivs set up but I don’t think I’m going to be getting anything as my circumstances recently changed

    Are any of these venomous? Does rear fanged mean mild venomous?

    • @spotsandstripes2
      @spotsandstripes2 2 роки тому

      The venom has to be chewed in with the back teeth, it’s a mild venom (I believe modified saliva) that is more akin to bee or wasp venom than true venomous snake that deliver through front fangs, who’s venom will necrotise flesh or /and shut down your neural functioning….
      this dosent mean that a person won’t have a reaction tho, some people get anaphylaxis after a bee sting

    Wow! I just found this! This is one of the best snake videos I've seen. Such incredibly stunning snakes. So mesmerizing! Glory to God for his creation. Didn't even know some of these existed. No offense to the Royal Pythons but it is so nice to see such diverse species of snakes over diverse colors of the same exact Python.
