I use salt and heat to treat all fish in quarantine. I will raise the temperature for example my system runs at 80 . Quarantine thank I run at 82 to 84. For at least 3 weeks before I introduce the fish to my system. Salt dose is 1 cup for 20 gallons. I hope this helps.
Salt is a life saver. I personally got rid of ich a number of times with salt at the rate of 3 level table spoons every gallon. So fish wouldn't like that level of salt but I mainly have live bearers and they seem to handle it fine. But lower levels of salt can be very effective against a whole range of things. Like flukes, ich and bacterial infections.
This can sometimes be something other than an infection. A cancer or even non cancerous tumor. It is hard to say? Seachem Kanaplex is the best Antibiotic to try in a separate hospital tank if you have one.
I tried yesterday esha 2000 with salt at 1 heaped table spoon of sea salt for every 10 gallons ( Discus World Chris Ingham's dose). Immediately my surviving discus from my Xmas catastrophe had problems breathing and he folded his fins. So I immediately did a 30% water change and 48h filtratation with activated carbon. My old discus immediately recovered. The eye of my discus is totally clear and the buldge is symmetrical. Yo can see all the colours of the iris perfectly well. And he moves his eye to look for food. I do not know what it is. They have been in 3 days in high salt and on Monday (which is day 5) I am going to start reducing the concentration with my 2 changes per week. The rest of the fish are fine so its not contagious. I have decided that for the time being I am not going to medicate. The fish actually looks ok except for the eye. The salt killed off all the algae growing on my plants....
I hope you found this Video Helpful. Please Like, Subscribe, Comment, and Share. Thank you!
Very informative. I have a much better understanding of the role salt can play as a medication. Thank you.
I try to use salt first always. Great content.
Love the Salt!❤
I have used salt on several occasions, but did overdose some fish once and nearly killed them. Thanks for the clarity.
Wonderful video George as always. Thank you.
Nice thumbnail, wish I could've thought of something like that.

Great information. Would you recommend using salt in planted aquariums? If so how much?
Yes but at very low levels. Research your plants first. Some plants do better than others. You may find Anubis’s for example holds up pretty well.
You talked briefly about heat and salt? Can you elaborate more?

I have a discus with a buldgy eye. The fish is fine but I worry that it is an infection. Would aquatic salt help.
I always try Salt first but if it does not get better with salt within a few days you would likely need an antibiotic.
Thanks which one would recommend. Is Baktopur of sera ok?. Could I use esha 2000 in combination with salt? esha2000 on its own did nothing

As I said in my previous reply, I think that is an injury or a cost type tumor behind the eye. I hope it clears up.
just get non-iodized , natural sea salt !
Can i put espom Salt also instead? 😊
