The Tscheppaschlucht is an impressive gorge near Ferlach, located on the way to the Loibl pass, south of Klagenfurt. The gorge was created by the impressive force of the water and is definitely worth a visit. In addition to the deep gorge, the area also offers beautiful walks through the forest and beautiful meadows with various flora, steel suspension bridges and a beautiful waterfall. Sturdy shoes are essential for this tour.
Hiking through the Tscheppaschlucht
From the parking lot of the Tscheppaschlucht you walk towards the Loibl pass and after about 20 minutes you reach the Goldene Brünnl, where you pay a contribution for the maintenance of the paths through the Tscheppaschlucht and the signage. After about an hour of walking through the central part of the gorge, with fascinating views and sprays of water descending over you, you will reach a fork. Here you have the choice of two routes.
Different itineraries
The first option is to the left, along the Loiblbaches in the Loibltal to the resting place of Deutscher Peter, an old family business known for its home-made schnapps. The second option is to the right, towards the Teufelsbrücke and after about a fifteen minute walk you will reach the Tschaukofall, a beautiful waterfall where more than 500 liters of water per second plunge 26 meters into the ravine. This is the highlight of the walk, but the view is also impressive.
Good to know
For visitors with a valid entrance ticket or the Kärntner Card, the Tscheppaschlucht bus offers a free shuttle back to the car park from the gasthaus at the end of your hike.
