- Continuing on in our Flip the Script series, we look at not only the things that happen “to us,” but the things that happen “by us.” Our guest this week epitomizes a life that includes those things we weren’t expecting that alter our course (for her, it was a heart defect diagnosis) and those things that are very intentional, like new efforts to find balance and taking responsibility for steering our own lives. Singer/songwriter Amy Grant is no stranger to our show, or to our community. She’s that friend so many of us have walked with via her music, through her writing, through just the way she negotiates the world in a way that is present, centered and grateful. Amy has walked through her share of flipped scripts-including the end of her first marriage (she and Jen share their common experiences there), the aging of her parents and the final lessons they taught her, and most recently, the heart surgery she would have never expected to happen-in 2020 no less-right in the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic. Amy and Jen talk about what happens during seasons of loss and upheaval and how they listen to their bodies, their hearts and trusted friends’ voices to empower themselves to steer out of the storm. In it all, Amy believes that “the next opportunity, the next enlightenment, the next ‘everything’ for all of us is within reach.”

Jen, in response to what you said about “how can I dial it back… and be more like Amy…” PLEASE KNOW just how incredible YOU are! God made you infectious and lovely and happy and FILLED with JOY!! You were made to be exactly who you are and we are so grateful for you!! Amy is beautiful and wonderful also, and she is Amy exactly as God intended her walk to be…. I understand what you mean HOWEVER you need to know how much you fill those roles for everyone also! I always love listening to Amy and her wisdom, and Jenn is a wonderful conversationalist/interviewer.
She centers me with her steady wisdom and kindness. I have loved her since 1996 when my faith found a name. She has been the big sister anchoring point, who has shown me, by living example, how to sustain it, especially when their backs are turned on you. I am not sure I’d still have a grip on Jesus’ hem had it not been for her beingness in our world. Thank you for this conversation. Much love to you both and all who watch.

Changing the script can also mean “flipping the meaning of something “ when we are suffering we can turn it into a challenge and a greater purpose.
I have loved Amy for years. Her music has always inspired me and I was fortunate enough to meet her in person several years ago at a meet and greet and she has a beautiful and loving soul. Jen did a great job with this interview. Love both these ladies.
Thank you this is exactly what I’ve needed now. I just turned 60 and want to change my life : too many people depend on me and I want my own life now. just survived a close call (cancer stage 4) with an ovarian mass removal
My problem is that it’s too many things that need work.

To be honest, I could not listen to Amy for a long time after her divorce.
It is easy to think people who have a seemly perfect life have no struggles.
We do lean on each other to stay grounded, when we fail each other it hurts.
My life was turned upside down a long time ago. As you grow in maturity, in Christ's grace and mercy,
you realize that God truly is sovereign and that what he does we are not to judge.
We do need each other and I am thankful that the Lord opens our eyes to him and how we can truly be ok with ourselves and each other.

People, you have concocted the Amy you want. Amy doesn't boldly declares she is for King Jesus.
A Christian should be empowered by no one but by the Word of God. PROPER interpretation of the Word is important. This is nothing but gobbledegook as my English teacher once said.

I am starting to really question what is going on with Amy!
If I don’t mention Gods name in every conversation, it doesn’t mean he isn’t leading my words and my life. God works in a multitude of ways and love, kindness, and humility are the evidence of God in many situations. Many people have been damaged by religion and softly showing love is sometimes more profound than being a name dropper.

Amy Grant is not the same. She supports the LGBQ …… because she married her niece with her lady partner.
The Bible clearly speaks about this…..so a true follower of Jesus wouldn’t support it. No matter what because it is sin.
God is holy and sin is what separates us from God.
I have been concerned about her since she left her first husband for Vince Gill.
She has been sending a lot of red flags since then….. 😢

What a beautiful platform Amy has. She speaks a lot of truth in experience …. It’s unfortunate she doesn’t share her relationship with Jesus. For He is the giver of Life apart from Him is in vain. It’s sad what a testimony she would have!
Hmmmmm…. I have been Amy Grant curious all of my Christian walk (38 years). Yes she does have that calm way about her but I just find it so odd how she seems to have a sort of political agenda. Like when she brought up her black friend and the guy nurse who died of covid. And when you asked her what she holds onto through hard things; instead of saying what I thought would be obvious, (Jesus, Jesus, Jesus) she says the sky and the leaves and my feet in the grass and all will be well??? She sounds like she is not all that satisfied with her current marriage either, like when she says, Vince is so quiet and doesn’t try to know her soul. I also have recently heard her open arms stand on the LGBTQ community. I don’t know? I think you should take her off the pedestal you have her on.

Amy is really interesting but the interviewer needs to shut up and let Amy talk. The interviewer keeps referencing herself while the talk is about Amy- who is great to listen to.
