I just bought one 3 months ago. It's honestly the best purchase we ever made. Here in Canada, there is an XLE model which has basically everything you ask for. This SUV is a freakin legend!
Unlike most of the trolls and idiots commenting on here, I've actually driven the 2014 Highlander Limited... not the hybrid. I've also driven the 2014 4Runner and 2014 Tundra. There was no difference in drive feel between the 4Runner and Highlander. There was nothing boring about the drive. It felt firm, but it still absorbed all of the potholes, and other road imperfections. Also, the interior of the 4Runner eclipses pretty much any other comparable vehicle, including one's I've heard thrown around in here such as the Durango and Pilot. I actually enjoyed the Highlander more than the 4Runner Limited I drove, because the Highlander just has more tech, a much bigger and nicer navigation system, and the nice panoramic moonroof my model had. However, if I were someone who did a lot of off-roading or needed towing capabilities, obviously the 4Runner would win. I wish people who have never test driven a vehicle for themselves, would stop trolling the internet, with all of their made-up facts based on envy, bias, or retarded hatred for a company.
Um just a question but is this just like honda/acura hybrid with the v6 and the 2 electric motors in the rear. Because last i checked the acura rlx is just like this and the accord just has a four cylinder with the two electric motors.
It's a great SUV! It definitely feels and rides like a Lexus. I know it grew in length, but while driving it, it actually doesn't feel like you are driving an SUV it feels like you are in a car.
I wonder how the Hybrid AWD system would perform offroad, even thougn Toyota specifically says (since the last generation) the hybrid AWD system is not made for offroad driving (just slippery road driving)
It doesn't have as much power at rear wheels that non-hybrid AWD model would give you. And I believe only AWD at low speeds. But for snow to get some traction going from a stop it's probably decent.
It's slightly lower than previous generation Highlander and the hybrid system and engines are mostly carry-over. They certainly could have done more but not much competition at the moment except for cheaper Pathfinder I guess (but not as efficient since missing some mpg saving technologies).
Lucien E I am currently looking at Grand Cherokee Altitude and Ford Explorer Sport, but I definitely give the nod in MPG to Highlander and the grill is looking more masculine, I like that.
C B Taylor If you need 3 rows and you drive mostly highway miles then that amount of money buys you also an Acura MDX AWD Tech (with about same highway mpg rating). It doesn't have huge 3rd row but lots more value for the money (for large 3rd row checkout Chevy's I believe). Hopefully we'll see more hybrid competitors one day...
C B Taylor RDX AWD Tech fully loaded is under 38K (trueprice). Really powerful engine but leans lot more in corners than MDX. Also AWD is cheaper system and not quite as good as MDX SH-AWD. Also misses some features like lane departure and blind spot (well 10K less...). Expect '15 model soon though. Guess best to test drive them all and compare. Lots of options.
And the acura mdx gets the same highway mpg but thats not a hybrid so i think toyota could have done a lot better with the highlander. but the new looks are nice i would give them that.
No you are all wrong the high lander is 2 times better than the santa fe because the high lander has more quality, it's more luxuries than the santa and also the Santa Fe has to many problems
Its really stupid how Suvs are getting rid of the lifting window, even Ford who practically pioneered it on the Explorer. But props to Toyota to retaining such a convenience.
I agree with a below comment, I see Durango. No way am I buying this when a Grand Cherokee is available or even the Santa Fe V6. If you're spending 45k+ on a vehicle you have the extra money for gas. And 45k vs a 36k that has the same stuff isn't mpg efficient enough to make up for the cost difference. That's what I don't understand. 38mpg cars vs 35mpg cars...who cares?!? It takes 8-10years to make up for that
Really chunky is the first thing that comes to mind. It has some decent features but the styling of the vehicle just isn't appealing. I feel like Toyota should infuse just a little more Lexus into the looks of their Toyota vehicles, then maybe they'd have some winners.
kirbyswarp Wrong. The ATS doesn't compete so you can't include it. Also the Acura MDX fully loaded is 57k. The only cheaper one is the Buick Enclave which is 47k fully loaded, which is the same price as the Highlander but depends on how you configure the two cars.
Dj Dunn I agree, to be honest I would rather spend that much Money on a 4Runnder than a Highlander. At least the 4Runner is a much more capable vehicle.
Sam Mehta Most hybrids are available in less than limited trim and AWD so that's what makes this the most expensive one. The Pathfinder Hybrid starts at 16K less (no any other 3 row hybrids SUV's to compare it with).

I turn 16 in a year and a half..so excited. Doubt i could afford it, but this is definitely my dream car.
Saw one of these a couple of weeks ago in person, it looks 10x better than the previous, even better than the pictures show.
yes, it's impressive!!

The Venza, Sienna and now the new Highlander are the only Toyotas that are pleasant to look at, oh and the Avalon from some angles.
You are the first to review this newly designed SUV. Thank you for it.
Nice to see you guys reviewing family SUVs in Santa Barbara:)
LOVED THIS REVIEW!!! Especially the "pull-away" at 4:45.
can you guys test the Rav4 EV
You guys are amazing!!!!!!!! Love your videos. Love Nathan. Love Roman.
your production value has REALLY increased.
gone are the old stock audio bits that sounded like they were from an N64 game.
When you are going to review the toyota sienna.. guys nice videos.
Is Ugly a standard feature ? Or is that an optional extra
Um just a question but is this just like honda/acura hybrid with the v6 and the 2 electric motors in the rear. Because last i checked the acura rlx is just like this and the accord just has a four cylinder with the two electric motors.

Very nice SUV. Toyota did a very nice job with it
The Highlander has earned its real name back! Now its not as boring!
Good eye Roman! No explanation needed gotta love Cali girls!
That would be good to see this on your guys new off-road trail.
Hahaha from 4:33 to 4:50 just great :) it made my day.
very good review guys..! well detail and this is the most average car buyer to look for the spec... nice job!

Been waiting for this!!!!! Please mash it up with the 4runner and mdx maybe?
lol! awesome review! is the 2015 version gonna be different?
I see Durango in the styling as well.
Thats bad ass MPG for a truck

That's a good idea I have looked at Acura RDX and MDX as well they both are on my short list as well, I want to keep the price closer to 40k
C B Taylor RDX AWD Tech fully loaded is under 38K (trueprice). Really powerful engine but leans lot more in corners than MDX. Also AWD is cheaper system and not quite as good as MDX SH-AWD. 4:40 Hey, Roman -- keep your eye on the vehicle....
Is the engine noisy when driving
And the acura mdx gets the same highway mpg but thats not a hybrid so i think toyota could have done a lot better with the highlander. but the new looks are nice i would give them that.
An analog guitar is an acoustic guitar ;) Hey great review guys!
Good job, Toyota! Damn good looking Highlander. I need--
...to move to Santa Barbara.
4:42 Wait what car are we talking about? LOL
BIG & 1st LIKE FROM IRAQI FAN
congrats on the win...
the 2nd half of the game was something to watch....
If you want to pack the 3rd row use the rear glass access. Same with the Pilot.
What is the 0 to 60
Great review! To me, its design looks like a grown-up Subaru Tribeca.
27/28mpg in a AWD thats Awsome
Console is very mini van looking rest of the crossover is nice looking
Please have a regular limited next time.
fantástico
Awesome MPG. Needs the Hybrid in lower trim levels.
Would be nice to overhaul the intro music.
AWESOME suv. It has everything !
my parents own a 2006 model and it sux.. 5thousand to reaplace the hybrid batteries...
it really looks like the pathfinder when you look at the back
No you are all wrong the high lander is 2 times better than the santa fe because the high lander has more quality, it's more luxuries than the santa and also the Santa Fe has to many problems
Exactly! Santa Fe is pretty much the worst because just of the Engine on the Santa Fe
I know right
4:41 that is not very nice thing to do... ha ha ha
Its really stupid how Suvs are getting rid of the lifting window, even Ford who practically pioneered it on the Explorer. But props to Toyota to retaining such a convenience.
i have the 2007 toyota highlander sport hybrid limited
Can the front end get any more uglier?

all crossover-vehicles should be designated as not-off-road worthy any more and minivan with conventional doors.
Really chunky is the first thing that comes to mind. It has some decent features but the styling of the vehicle just isn't appealing. I feel like Toyota should infuse just a little more Lexus into the looks of their Toyota vehicles, then maybe they'd have some winners.
Has a grill of a tundra to me.
too bad this vehicle is not available here in SEA.
I see a lot of toyota sienna soccer mom minivan styling in the sides and rear. Not my taste.
Wow. 47k for a highlander. No thanks.
It's a hybrid.. Most of all hybrids are expensive plus this Highlanders in the Limited trim so it has all the options.
Sam Mehta For nearly 50k, you can buy a LOT more.
kirbyswarp I don't really think so accept for Audi and Mercedes or Caddy. Also Highlander is way better than any other.
Maheen Azad Uhh you can get a fully loaded ATS for under 50k, An Acura MDX, Buick Enclave and many others.
kirbyswarp
Wrong. The ATS doesn't compete so you can't include it. Also the Acura MDX fully loaded is 57k. The only cheaper one is the Buick Enclave which is 47k fully loaded, which is the same price as the Highlander but depends on how you configure the two cars.
a moose head?
I'll take a Durango for that price
This doesn't get any better mpg than the last gen
Damnn
4:33 Hahaha
subaru tribeca slept with a van
It's not worth 47k
It's a hybrid.. Most of all hybrids are expensive plus this Highlanders in the Limited trim so it has all the options.
True but I still think that there are better cars or SUVs out there for the same amount of money or less
Dj Dunn I agree, to be honest I would rather spend that much Money on a 4Runnder than a Highlander. At least the 4Runner is a much more capable vehicle.
I don't think any new cars are worth the money these manufacturers are asking. But that's just me I guess.
Sam Mehta Most hybrids are available in less than limited trim and AWD so that's what makes this the most expensive one. The Pathfinder Hybrid starts at 16K less (no any other 3 row hybrids SUV's to compare it with).
We have to pay $10K more just for the hybrid? Ridiculus!
does the toyota design department have eyes? that is one ugly car, something to expect from toyota nowadays
I would rather a balls to the wall Durango RT all day every day!
another Toyota styling disaster; and what is this obsession with a car must look masculine, have some personal doubts do we? lol
it's no Land Cruiser.......
Why is he so out of breath?
i would take the lexus, the audi is also very good
Trunk room is horrible!Bad gas mpg,It's not worth it!
Okay great guys, but does the throttle get stuck?
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Lol. There's something wrong with you guys.
i rather get a x5 but thats just me
Looks like Subaru Tribeca
ugly look like a minivan more than a suv
Heya. You're Very Talented. digestion flap What's your opinion about it, guys !
