    Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo have numerical advantage, hence termed the majority tribes aka the most popular tribes. During the time of the colonial era/early independence, when Nigeria had a regional system of government, these 3 tribes dominated the regions.
    Hausa in the North
    Youruba in the West (SW to be precise)
    Igbo in the East (SE to be precise).

    Your guess is correct. Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo are the ethnic groups with the highest populations in Nigeria. They are sometimes known as the “majority tribes”. Each one was the dominant majority in the three original regions during colonial rule.

      @@ck-sl3kt Oh i didn't think you were being racist, not at all!
      You were just misusing the word!
      The Yoruba for example are an ethnic group and within their ethnic groups are the tribes, Awori, Ijebu, Egba , Ilaje, Igbomina, Owo and so on!
      The Hausa are an ethnic group and within them are the tribes (or subgroups) like Habe, Kado, Banza and so on !
      The Ijaw are an ethnic group and within this group are tribes or clans like Kalabari, Tarakiri, Nembe, Ogbia , Igbani and Okrika! and so on...
      You get my drift???
      Yes cheers!!!

      @@aframaco9491 You should say that is the way you prefer and don't say I'm wrong. Don't be an emergency online teacher. I just told you Tribe and Ethnic group are the SAME thing! I mean same thing! A Tribe is NOT a sub-group inside an Ethnic group as you are erroneously thinking. Yoruba is a TRIBE! Awori is a sub-group within Yoruba tribe that have a specific Yoruba dialect. If you choose to use ethnic group then don't use tribe. If you choose to use tribe then don't use ethnic group. But Ethnic group and tribe are one and the same thing. And again, remember that a Tribe is NOT a sub-group inside an Ethnic group!

    @Elomo Carol,
    Nigeria has 374 tribes which are spread over 6 geopolitical regions of the country. The Hausas/Fulani, Yoruba and Igbo are the 3 tribal groups with highest population, or you can say they are the 3 most populous tribes in Nigeria.
