His talent is extremely telling, so while I'm surprised to hear he's been at it for 15 years, im also not because holy shit it HAS to take time to get this skilled... and his creativity at the rate he's doing it is mind-boggling. He changed genres a bit and his earlier stuff was more run of the mill rock. But I love this folk/roots music he is doing now. And social media allows him to have a platform to find an audience he may have struggled to find a generation ago when trying a new direction.
Can you even imagine how many great musicians we all missed out on back in the day because the only way to get heard was to get a major label record deal?

I'm running out of superlatives to describe just how good Jesse is. No accolades do him justice especially with "Pilgrim." Notice how the tenor of his voice changes ever so slightly from song to song. I don't think his signature rasp has sounded any better than on this song. And the lyrics--what a marvel!

Does anyone else think, with acknowledgement of giant's shoulders, that Jesse Welles stands in resonant weight, in part due to prodigious output but also poetic nuance, above even Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, and Woodie Guthrie? I just can't get over the fact that I enjoy and find important meaning in nearly all of his songs.

Right there with you,@@jessovenden. There is something deeply wrong with our culture when there are so few protest songs. Jesse Welles is filling a much needed traditional role that far too few other artists are honoring. Proof of deep cultural disease is that in the past, an artist with a protest song would navigate a labyrinth of record label gatekeepers, censorship barriers, and potential blacklisting, whereas today, they can simply hit record in their bedroom and share their message globally, democratizing artistic expression and dissent.

It’s an interesting line I interpreted as questioning if there is actually a mass consciousness because there’s so much division and nonsense that keeps us separated and it causes us to make decisions that are against the good for all a good example to me is clean air water and a habitable planet.

I always love the witty lyrics of your songs, Jesse... However, even though the guitar player in me is always satisfied with your songs, THIS SONG Scratches that itch that my hands always seem to have a longing for!
It has that "can't find my home" feel to it, but the guitar hooks to it are so friggin' fresh, and new, and so damned -- well... So damned YOU...
