Jamie, you got me laughing now. I am 75. I was 18 on the road in the states with a cover band from New York. I played these solos and many more 6 nights a week, 5 sets a night. 4 years and then moved on to playing jazz. But I learned so much from these great solos, time, inflection, intonation, being in the pocket and more. All these players were playing Berg Larsens in different configurations. You sound really terrific and I am glad that this tradition continues.
This is by far one of my favorite Saxophone videos on UA-cam and one of the main inspirations that made me pick up and start playing a Saxophone. Jaime is also my favorite online saxophone teachers by far! He is knowledgeable and funny and makes all the videos a pleasure to watch and learn from. I tried some of the other online coaching and they all failed me for various reasons. Jaime makes it easy and fun and I always learn after one of his tutorials.
Superb! Playing 'Benny Hill' with a straight must have been a challenge - whenever I hear this, I think of scantily clad 'busty' nurses chasing a bald man around a park - or visa-versa. That's what growing up in the 70/80s does to you!
you are most awesome! Excellent playing. I have always loved the classic Motown sax solos. I made a clip years ago of just the sax solos back to back. Can't get enough. thank you!
it's rare to see a pro musician on youtube who has so much fun whilst playing. Love your sound, admire your technique and will try to copy your attitude :-)
Lohvissimo! You are the Ma'aaahn! Sax Souvenirs of "Boots" Randolph King Curtis, Junior Walker ... - the sound and style I adore, especially. You're the welcomed best! Thanks, champ!
I've been walking round the house with bluetooth headphones on chillin' listening to this medley more than a few times. Inspiring and uplifting at the same time. Thank you!
Got me thinking about Fathead Newman and Hard Times. I’m sure you played that when you were just a kid on a clarinet!! You nailed all these greats so wonderfully.
Ok, old guy here. Been wanting to get back into Tenor Sax but leaned on every excuse in the book like work, covid, numerous grandkids. Now retired and pulled out the old Selmer 1244 student sax and half the pads fell out into the case. Serious techs seem to think I should just get a new Yamaha, Yani or whatever. Your videos... Very Groovy. Love your sound and fast changes. I will check out your lessons but I would like to play After you've gone like Patrick Bartley by this weekend or I will be dissapointed 🙂. Did I mention my lack of patience? Brilliant work and thank you so much for all the work you put up online for us dreamers. It does make a difference maybe more than you know. God Bless - Zig
I’ve set aside 45 mins to sit here and admire your skill watching these 3 videos, what a great set of songs I watched one of your tutorials earlier, you said little and often, should my little run to 1.5 hours ?? I just couldn’t stop playing today, i was inspired 👍👍
What an awesome collage of music evoking so many different emotions. Still on the 1st morning coffee across the pond in Ontario, Canada and man what a fantastic treat to wake up to this. Yackety had me grinning from ear to ear. Jamie, this is so inspirational. To learn any one of these solos is one thing, but to make it sound anything remotely like you...let's just say this is a real reminder of the details beyond the connect the dots musical notation. Great performances Jamie!
Pepper Adams is one of my all-time favorite bari players (how could he not be?). He said in an interview that he had to quit using his Berg (solid stainless steel) mouthpiece after so many years bc he pitted the table from putting the reed on/playing so much. Which is both incredible (think of a rock being eroded by rain) and yet makes sense given how insanely good he was.
Man what a video ! What a selection of songs ! Starting of with Pink Panther & Take Five - and it keeps that level up through the end with James Brown ! Man , thanks so much ! ❤😊 🎷🎶👍😁👋
What an inspirational way to start the day ! A superb selection of classic , iconic hit tunes . Each one beautifully played , I love it ! Thank you so much .
Wonderful example of some great sounds, I once bought a saxophone thinking it would be easier than strumming a guitar, how wrong I. was. respect to you good sir !
Thanks for this Jamie! I'm probably biting off way more than I can chew, but having a go at "Take Five", even though I'm a beginner. Maybe others already know about this trick, but one way to learn fast pieces is to play the video at 1/2 speed, because then not only is it slower, but it's also a full octave down, so the notes are all still the same, and it is possible to play along with you playing the correct notes, just an octave above you (well not really yet in my case even at half speed!).
If you’re playing the video at half speed on UA-cam then the pitch is actually the same. If you did that with a mechanical tape machine it would be an octave lower though.
@@GetYourSaxTogether I'll have to have another lik at it. I was also playing it at 1/4 speed to try and see what fingerings you were using, and that was a different pitch IIRC. It does seem quite "warbly" at slower speed. BTW, that would be helpful if you could state if you use a different fingering from the normal to make the fast transitions easier. Many thanks again! Edit - Just listened to it again and the pitch seems to be the same regardless of what speed it's played at. Feel a bit dumb now for not noticing that before!
I agree excellent playing and it's increadibly difficult to cover all the different styles here. Actually (and in no way is this a knock against this fine horn player) I thought the Stan Getz was the only track where he didn't catch the essence if the player. Junior Walker and Dave Newman were pretty damn good but Stan had such an ethereal sound and unique phrasing that it's extreamly difficult to emulate. I know some of these I would nail but others are too far away from my personal sound that I would really struggle with. Jimmy Forrest's sound was also so enormous and hard edged that it's very hard to reproduce but he did pretty well with that one. Overall a very impressive demonsration and very enjoyable.
Happy New Year. Wow....I don't know how you do it, Jamie. Thanks for the performance, PDF and all round inspiration. Hope you received my coffees last week.
@@markcrampton5873 a great tune I agree but just feel that soul stew is a dance floor filler and just has all the elements ( I'm a bass player aswell as play sax by the way so probably why I feel that way )
