      Although I am “A Yank”, I still prefer the British pronunciation of “Saxophonist”. Gives it a little class Jaime! 😎🎷

    Thank you for another outstanding masterclass and for giving some visibility and recognition to one of my favorite BOSS tenor players from my hometown in central Ohio, where he often played at a club called the Anchor Inn with B3 legend Hank Marr (probably on the cut you played) He was an incredibly gracious human being as well and encouraged younglings to occasionally sit in. You captured his sound and blues (some would shout dirty dirty dirty) phrasing. You should catch his solo on a medley of The entertainer and I'm Old Fashioned with another Columbus OH jazz legend , Trombone hero Gary Carney.

    Your channel is one of the best in the world for sax players! I’ve always wondered why you’ve never done anything on Kirk Whalum’s famous solo, one of the most listened to ever. Would love to hear your take on it! Hope you’re in good terms with him

    Wow. That's all I can say. What an incredible tip - such a simple and effective technique that obviously even the masters use. For me I was however confused with the whole b5-b3-2-1 thing only because I was already thinking in natural minors with flatted 5th so talking the notes as they translate from major really threw me for a few minutes. Bottom line for me (probably just me) it would have been much clearer saying it's the first 4 notes of any blues scale going backwards. That's it. I would have immediately understood that but that's just me because I don't think of the altered notes from major - instead my fingers have just memorized the notes in the blues scales and I don't think about how they're altered. For years I've practiced blues scales starting on the tonic. I know it's dumb but I did. This simple thing of just starting on the 4th note of the blues scale and playing down is crazy simple and crazy cool.

    Is that the same for the Mayor-Blues-Scales for example C-Major: C D Eb E G A (C) ? And if so, would we take the first 4 Notes backward E Eb D C?

    • @travlak
      @travlak 4 місяці тому +1

      In a major blues scale, you would play it exactly the same way: Eb D C A. Even though you’re in the key of C.

    Hi, I was wondering, do you have an email or anywhere that I would be able to send you a video of the saxophone I bought? When I press c one of the bottom notes shakes and Id just like to check if that’s meant to happen, I’m fairly certain it’s not, or if I need to return it? Would be very helpful, thanks :)

    "This video is brought to you by BUDGET TITLES R US" - priceless. Seriously, though, that lesson was priceless. I mean, we're talking 'more precious than your mom's Tupperware collection' kind of priceless. And as for this lick? It reigns supreme, even over THE LICK. That’s right, it’s the king of all licks-crowned, sceptered, and probably has a Netflix special in the works.
