Do you need education to succeed: In my opinion, no. Once a man believes he can be great, there is that inner push for greatness. Thank you Dr. This is a great insight.
What are you referring to as ‘education?’ If you mean Western education which is achieved through schooling, then yes, you don’t have to have it, though in a globalised world it can make success easier. But education occurs outside or without schooling and every indigenous culture has their own system of education since before colonisation or globalisation. In Nigeria, for example, we have our own system which includes apprenticeships and community socialisation - age grade systems, gender-based systems, religious systems etc make this up. These impart the knowledge, skills and values needed to succeed in your cultural environment. They can help you locally in ways that Western education cannot. However, since the world is now becoming globalised, we all need the skills, knowledge and values to help us thrive outside our own cultural contexts as well as in them, and to cross cultural boundaries and thrive in the cultures of others. E.g. we now need to be able to communicate with people who do not speak our native language, how to carry out online transactions of different kinds, how to stay safe online, how to sell our own goods and services to a broader market, whether this be through a job or our own enterprise. We also need to learn competencies for success in this globalised and digital world. Much of this is taught in schools rather than through our traditional community socialisation, hence it is becoming more and more advantageous to plug into the global system and tap from its education, while remaining rooted and grounded in one’s local culture. So, yes, you can succeed in life without Western education, which takes place in Western-styled schools. But all human beings get an education, even informally, which prepares them for life in their locality. But if you want to thrive alongside your contemporaries and outside your locality, at least a basic global education is necessary for success in this globalised, digital world. I write this as an educator as well as an African elder who holds both traditional African and Western education dearly and is versed in both.
Be hardworking in your country built reputable hospitals in your country not run away. SA DR are building their own private hospitals. If they are focused why don't they learn copy and apply the skill in Nigeria why they are not smart just
I think the definition of education is possession of working knowledge. The more you have the better the chance of succeeding. It has nothing to do with been a Nigerian or not but government impact.
I wouldn’t say “they take care of us so we can take of them.” They want their children to have a good future whether they take care of their parents or not, most kids would do so regardless, because they are built that way.
Incredible achievements and as an african we must celebrate these things because they give us hope of our intellectual potential. But, statistically speaking, this is expected if it is indeed so. We need to compare percentages and opportunity like a statisticisn would, and not mere head counts. There are 300m english speaking nigerians. The next is ethiopia - 100m! Thats 3x and ethiopia is not even english speaking but you see many ethiopians in world organizations as well such as WHO. Lets compare with the neighbouring anglophone country ghana. Population 30m! Thats 10% of nigeria and Ghana had a UN secretary general decades before okonjo iweala became trade chief. Before his fall from grace the ghanaian architect David Adjaye was the most prominent african architect anywhere. Look at Jamaica @2m. Thats less than 1% of nigeria. Yet you see more prominent jamaican track and field athletes than nigerians. We need to look at total migrant populations and percentages and not sheer headcounts before coming to knee jerk unanalytical conclusions.
@GinaTwinkle22 The same reason why you have not been able to build yours, hence your government having all sorts of immgration programs and international student program, basically asking immgrats to.come pay taxes you cannot afford to pay
CAUSE THEY LIFE DEPENDS IN IT. How are you so successful but your whole country is in shambles the feed the children are the most successful now. They not speaking Nigerian they in usa
