      Like, I get harassing, say, a child predator to admit to what they did. However, harassing the childhood friend of one of the predator's victims to 'speak out' against the child predator?Fucked up. AND that's a kid who, in all likelihood probably AT LEAST was groomed and traumatized by that or witnessed their friend enduring things, which can give trauma, too.

    Your note at the end about hope: Hope is not just the belief that the future will be better, but also that you have the ability to make it so. Hope without agency and autonomy is nothing more than a wish. People who have been stripped of their agency may have willpower, but without pathways, they will remain hopeless and that willpower will diminish.
    At my job, I get to see families who have had many different doors shut in their faces. They have the will to make their lives better, but they don't see a way to make it happen. If I'm lucky, I get to be a small part of their journey towards hope. That makes me feel less powerless, but when systems continue to get in our way, it's discouraging.

      I'm not defending the sad, creepy, pathetic people that send unsolicited pictures of their genitals to people, however seeing a penis, or boobs or a vagina that you weren't expecting to see is not going to cause you trauma, period. People in this world have experienced truly awful things that haunt them their entire lives. That is trauma. Getting a dick pic from a lonely creep is annoying, it's rude, it's creepy, but it's not going to traumatize you. You're not going to be severely negatively affected for the rest of your life because you saw a penis you didn't want to see. I'm not even arguing that it should or shouldn't be illegal to do it. I'm only saying that people throw around being traumatized by insignificant things so often these days that it takes away from those that have seen or experienced some truly horrific shit. Stop devaluing the significance of things just because you want to feel included or want to be a victim. You're not traumatized because you got a dick pic from a stranger. Commenting on yesterday today and not making enough money as a young person: I work at a fish hatchery and hope to become a biologist doing research to monitor salmon populations. To become a biologist working for the state, you need at least a Master’s degree. The biologist at my hatchery gets paid around $27/hr. I current make $16.50 as a hatchery technician which is a job that recommends a Bachelor’s degree. Yes, I could be making more working at a fast food job (and that depresses me every day) but that’s not what I want to do with my life.
    I understand Phil is trying to be hopeful in saying there are other things you can do to be a self starter and go different routes if you’re not making enough money, but some people have dreams of what they want to do and it’s crazy that you do not get paid enough to live that dream job in fields that are incredibly important to society and world function. If people went where the money is, nobody would be working these jobs.
    I’m not trying to be depressing or hopeless, but idk what to do to get wages in fields like mine high enough that they’re worth pursuing.

      I didn't really agree with his solution either. It's like you said, the jobs that aren't being paid well are still critical to the functioning of society.. being another drop-shipper of sometimes literal garbage items online definitely isn't.
      The real solution is demanding livable wages for those positions, or more drastically, demanding for a restructuring of society..
      It does give me hope when I see people unionizing, like what happened last summer at least.

      I love my work, and this is the work I want to continue, going to university for what I love and being able to do it is a blessing… being forced to change paths would ruin my mental state and break my heart…but I have no idea if the income issue it is something individually we can fix… I would love to see an overhaul on incomes across the board so millennials can feel secure in their futures.

One aspect about the story that might not be understood by non-Alaskans is a lot of people in Alaska live in "dry" cabins, i.e., cabins without running water, because of permafrost and the severe cold making plumbing difficult in certain neighborhoods. So, a lot of people have gym memberships in part to shower, shave, etc. It is possible that the Planet Fitness locker room could have been the only place she had access to water to shave, shower, etc.

      Yeah it should be capped $$ amounts, not % or a % and just capped at a certain $ amount. Kind of the same thing, but a % based commission with a capped dollar amount (say no more than 3-5k) means that relators will want to sell cheaper houses just as much as mansions

      @apollofell3925 Місяць тому

      @@James26285 I feel you, but I don't think an outright cap is appropriate either. If the housing market slows down like it did toward the end of last year, a realtor might have to go months without making a single sale. Plus, it doesn't seem fair that a realtor could sell a $4m home and only see 0.01% of that sale. I'm for lowering commissions on the middle-ish range of homes, in the 200-600k range, and raising commissions on the more expensive homes, above 2m. Yes, this creates incentive to sell more expensive homes, but the realtors will be making it off of the few people who can afford expensive homes, and expensive homes are harder to sell - most realtors across the US sell way more lower-priced properties than expensive ones.

    • @ThirstyThurman
      @ThirstyThurman Місяць тому

      @@Nevertoleavedepends on the brokerage. I'm an agent with Keller Williams. I work with my dad on a two man team. He's a full capper which means he does a 70/30 split with Keller Williams International up to $19,500. I'm a quarter capper since I'm part of his team. I pay $4,875 to Keller Williams International, same 70/30 split until I hit that cap. Once we hit our caps we no longer do that split. We both also have a small split with our specific office as well which is $3000 per agent throughout the year. Same concept there. Once we hit that $3k we than keep the entirety of the commission.
      Other brokerages in our area have similar splits. Some have a cap like we do. Others do just a flat split on every transaction. Some of them also have other fees that I can't speak on since we don't have them.
      Edit: Most agents are classified as independent contractors so we have to pay estimated taxes instead of having the taxes taken out each check. That can kind of screw us over depending on how much business we do each year. I've had a steady rise each year so my estimateds keep climbing so it feels like I actually haven't made more money than I did the year I got into this.

      I said I'm proud of North Dakota for hopefully breaking the ice for term limits. It's always taken one state to pass a law, good or bad, to open it up to a wider national view. Same-sex marriage, marijuana legalization, the hateful bills we have seen etc. I can absolutely think that's a good idea.
      However, I can also in the same thought realize that both of our states are so awful that North Dakota will be the better one as South Dakota is wildly corrupt. Since I live here, I likely know vastly more regarding the corruption. Especially regarding the treatment of our Native American Tribes and tribal lands.
      For example, did you know that 12% of South Dakota is tribal land? And in the 2022 blizzard snow was so bad that one reservation was trapped under the snow without food, water, or heat. They had to burn furniture. The thing is kerosene is used to heat homes here. The county is the poorest in the United States.
      Our governor, who is the likely VP pick for Trump, did not call up the National Guard for several days. Many people died including a young boy.
      I could go on and on of the treatment of our tribes in this state alone - forgetting about the people in a wider scale.
      I'm absolutely not celebrating what you think. For you to make that assumption about me means you likely do about others. No one can know what anyone means via text unless they explicitly say so. Asking is always a better way than assuming.
      Furthermore, no one knows what circumstance anyone is going through. You can never assume that. You don't know if they have issues with communication, are on the spectrum, just nervous, etc. It's hard to communicate online. Trying to decipher the smallest things from potentially innocent comments will generate more fuel than whatever activistm you're possibly fighting for.

    People should try to understand that talking about traumatic childhood events is a personal decision. When speaking about it we end up reliving it, and that can be very hard depending on where each person is in their own healing process. Nobody should be shamed for talking about it or not talking about it. (My wife is a realtor fyi): I see the NAR ruling as really hurting first time homebuyers. The old system had buyer agent fees covered in the sale price and thus covered by their loan, but now they will have to either pay their agent fees as an additional on top cost in cash (as it can no longer be covered by their loan since it isnt in the price of the home), or use the listing agent, who is there to get the highest price for the seller and cant possibly act in the best interest of the buyer. People who think they can do a buy or sell without an agent normally regret it given all the issues that pop up with scheduling showings and correcting inspection findings (just my experience)

Even considering your time, your other costs of doing business, and paying taxes, that’s still a ridiculously handsome income for a couple of months’ worth of leg- and paperwork.
