The ringing you hear is a Western Electric 500C/D telephone, and my phones are hooked up to a Panasonic KX-T61610BE phone system, so dialling 28 was to call another extension to demonstrate the payphone dialling out... :) The ringer in this phone is similar to a Trimphone, doesn't sound too appealling really...
@@TheRottenShed Yes they were cutting edge in their time. worked very well in pubs and clubs and even residential properties. customer could programme their own tariff per minute and make a profit out of them.
One thing I remember about mine is the coin slot could be removed and turned around to reveal a 20p slot, but that would need a different coin mechanism (I tried and it didn't work), and I don't think they ever did them in 20p form...
If only they stuck to that motto eh?!? As for the phone itself, the BT "Moneybox" payphone does pop up on ebay now and then for about £30 at most, they are plug & play so can work on a regular phone line, the only downsides are it's Pulse-dial (not a lot of phonelines support that now) and they need the 2 Shilling-sized 10p (or 2s themselves) coins to work, but that aside it's a fun phone to play with... :)
Certainly is, though hilariously the other day while testing out a new TV we got, I happened upon the end of an Emmerdale episode, and there was one in the background, tickled me quite nicely given they need old large 2 Shilling-sized 10p (or 2s themselves) coins to work it, not sure if they ever sold them with another denomnation, though the metal con slot can be flipped around for a 20p slot... :)
Hi! I recently acquired a BT ct6000c like the one you posted here. Sorry to bother you but I would like to ask you a favour. So, my phone did not come with a user guide, and I am finding it quite difficult to figure out how to make it work. I was wondering if by any chance I could ask you for some pictures of the guide, that'd be fab! Thanks!
Unfortunately I can't seem to find the instruction book (I'm sure I'd left it either in the box or inside the phone itself!), and it's been a while since I used it so I can't recall how it works, sorry I can't be much help... :(
You have to press button A otherwise you can't do anything else with the phone, the transmitter and keypad are disabled until you push the button so you can't talk for free...
That's cos when I filmed the video, this channel was just a place I put unlisted videos for forums, and said forums had the explanation of what I was doing in a thread, and therefore made sense, buuuuut, if operating a 1980s payphone is a difficult concept to understand then it'd be pointless trying to explain... :)

i used to install these, they were marketed as the BT moneybox and were very popular in their time
I still have this one stashed away, they're still a pretty cool little payphone... :)

found it on ebay, not quite NIB but it's in pretty great condition. :)
We used to have one of these, you can tip it on its side and get free calls from it
I would love one of these payphones. I remember the Ad's... British Telecom, it's you we answer to.....

@@TheRottenShed Weirdly I was thinking of it being on that set! And nice to know it can be flipped.

what number did you dial to make the phone ring was it 28? i tried it and it didnt work
How did you get ahold of that??
Wait, but if you didn't press 'A' would you be refunded once you hangup?
Yes, if you don't press A before hanging up, the coin is returned...
That's a bit silly why would anyone actually press 'A' then! The modern British Telecommunications boxes do it automatically so you gotta pay! :(
You have to press button A otherwise you can't do anything else with the phone, the transmitter and keypad are disabled until you push the button so you can't talk for free...
a local shopping centre has 90's BT payphones that, i believe, have the "A" button! :)
What a pointless video, no idea what you are showing cause you never explained anything.

The Rotten Shed Using it is easy, it is just certain things you were showing I didn’t know what you were doing.
Well like I say, the video was made back before I used this channel for making talkie videos, so, it is what it is...
