  • @MythicLionMan

    Here's an idea: install a big steering servo on the shaft of the motor. Then you could make the whole raft RC (goes with the channel name). But once that's done, install an Pixhawk with Arduboat and you can have the raft run waypoint missions around the lake while you party. Or just do station holding to account for the fact that you lost your anchor again. Or program the boat to follow the surfboard (it wouldn't be able to keep up, but it would at least be closer when you were done).

    • @tuner25
      @tuner25 3 роки тому +18

      That's an awesome idea! Maybe it could be combined with solar panels for longer runtimes + energy for a cooler,. Also, adding a steering wheel (controlling the servo) on the top floor would be great!

    Simon those brackets you put on to remove the brace are called knee joints. You should have knee joints on each column in 2 directions so you don't end up with a folding top floor.

    • @keysimfr
      @keysimfr 3 роки тому +16

      a folding top floor hahahaha, love it

    • @rosserobertolli
      @rosserobertolli 3 роки тому +25

      That is slightly over constrained and I get the view and not hitting your head arguments. The staircase (and box) more or less takes care of the longitudal flex, the two joints in the back take care of the lateral forces. There is only a big twist left laterally in the front and only one joint behind the staircase would greatly reduce that without obstructing the view or passage of your head

    • @gamingSlasher
      @gamingSlasher 3 роки тому +10

      Those small "knee joints" look good. I would not mind, you can make them quite small and they still work.

    Thank you so much! This video inspired me to build my own 4x4 Meter Raft! One of my best and definitely my biggest Project ever!
    I had the added challenge, that it needed to be portable, because I live in Germany. We dont have that many lakes, so always lots of swimmers in summer and youre not allowed to just keep your boats and rafts in the water for long periods of time. German regulations... whatever. Anyways I managed to divide the deck into 8 2x1 Meter wooden sections, so they can easily be put on a trailor and be transported to the lake, where the deck sections can be screwed to an underlying steel beam construction with m8 machine screws, so its rigid. Then you just fix a 200l plastic barrel under each section with ratchet straps. The whole process can be completed with 4 people in under an hour.
    An upper Deck would be a dream, but Its barely portable as it is now, so I think i will just put a beach umbrella on it for shade, and call it a day.
    Im super happy that I just went ahead and did it despite it being difficult, and I thank you very much once again for your inspiring video!

      Wow realy, even tho nearly every house is made out of wood?
      In total is estimate it would be around 500euros of wood (going by the netherlands)?
      Also sweden, finland and norway have one of the highest exports in lumber.

    • @sinformant
      @sinformant 3 роки тому +1

      @@WitchieNL well I am exaggerating, but here in the US lumber has pretty much doubled to tripled in price.

    • @00000005547
      @00000005547 3 роки тому +5

      @@WitchieNL It's BECAUSE every house is made out of wood. Cause of covid theres been a HUGE demand for homes away from the city (because cities are disgusting breeding grounds of garbage, and it only took a global pandemic for people to figure that out), so theres a LOT of new houses being built right now, the average lead time to get a house built nowadays is a little over 2 years, when the house itself only takes maybe 8-10 months to build. There just isn't enough materials and/or builders available.

    Are you sure that the roof is completely safe? I mean it's a serious build with lot of mass, an accident of that roof crashing down could be fatal. These kind of builds can't just be homemade by anyone, an engineer is required here to validate it's stability. And at least, for my unprofessional eyes - these legs looks too weak, and there's not enough stabilizing pieces there.

    I know this is old but the Stairs add support for the upper deck as well! Nice work! Looks cold in the water there! It's 42 Celsius in Texas today.

    If you put diagonal braces in all eight corners across the top it will make the upper deck where it will no wobble at all. Matter of fact, you can probably use shorter braces if you put them in all eight corners so you can have the maximum headroom and still have a rock solid upper deck.

    Cool project. Needs more speed! Like 3 of those trolling motors for drive. Add a roof over top the upper deck that is covered with solar panels. you need more bracing for the upper deck. Movement and flexing will just stress whatever joints you have. Corner braces on all 4 poles will stiffen that up nicely.

  • @helenelliott2375
    @helenelliott2375 3 роки тому

    now that is so sweet you can turn that into a business,add some solar panels,a grill,and a roof instead of it being open on top(just in case of rain) OR you could think about maybe turning it into a little house so you can sleep on the lake, great job good luck !!
