Ridiculous regulations. Not only is there no reason to cut off episodes at 40 and it's even more absurd to make viewers wait another year for the remainder of the drama by which time most of us have forgotten what went on before. These officials are so full of themselves and in any other country than one that tightly controls its citizens would get some serious blowback.
Now y'all know the pain of us westerners - having to wait a year or two between seasons. At least the Chinese get more than 1 episode airing per week.

I really loved the first season, it was very enjoyable. But the wait kills me. I think the regulations are good, because a lot of dramas are unnecessarily long, but I think it can damage ratings and storylines as well.

I actually love the long dramas. I would have to force myself to stop watching a drama so I could sleep. I enjoy these stories and culture a lot so it sucks that they cut some in half. I just want to watch the whole thing instead of having it split.
IMHO 1 yr to wait for 2nd season is ridiculous. If they are going to set a time limit between seasons then 3-6 mos is a much more reasonable timespan. As it is now with a lot of dramas you have to wait days for the next episode which Is another ridiculous restriction.
Thank you for that explanation. I am in the UK and have recently started watching Chinese drama on Yourube. This has to so far be the most stunning fabulous drama, the visuals, the filming, the acting is outstanding. The sets are amazing I can’t even imagine what it must have cost. The only annoying thing watching it on UA-cam is when you get the silent moments I think it is something to do with copyright nothing to do with the drama itself. I have just got to episode 20 and the screen clarity is not quiet as sharp as the first episodes which is a shame but of course that wound happen of watching via other means.
We, as fans, protest these long waits. Maybe we as fans will boycott these (as much as we love them) if the production companies don’t get it together.

The new regulation might have been put into place to avoir abuse that could happen on the production companies part, but I still think that the one year between each season should be abolished. Once a series started it is nice to keep the flow. I like to be able to watch a serie in full from beginning to the end. For the limited time, well some series had episode that were lasting over 1 hour and I still found them short, for chinese drama have so many interesting things in it. I'm really looking for the season 2 and see how it ends.

I really hope that the director will change the ending in season 2...Xiang Liu doesn't deserved such bad ending to die in a battle helplessly as he becomes weak saving Xiaoyao and Tang Jing/Ye Shique doesn't deserved to die as well in the hand of CanG Xuan due to plain jealousy thus making XiaoYao hate him to death...this will be a total messed up story and ending...They dont need to follow the Title itself making the FL bound to lose 3 of them...Xiang Liu, Tang Jing, and Cang Xuan

Thank you for the explination. It is a shame really. China is shooting itself in the foot by putting these regulations in place, especially when they are sharing culture and stories through their dramas internationally. The music industry of China also benefits greatly from sharing these dramas. I guess they fail to see the bigger picture out of fear of semi-capitalism, which is silly honestly as China has a strong capitalist sector that props up their country, and is not a hermit kingdom. They say they want to spread understanding of their culture on one hand, yet pull back like a snail into a shell on the other. The number of people who watch shows domestically and internationally does not justify fear based regulations like that. Anyway, just my opinion, since you asked. As an international viewer, I enjoy the stories and the creative use of folklore. The music is usually awesome too, and has lead me to many musicians I never would have heard of otherwise. I even took up playing the guqin and learning the language as a result of my exposure, so, seriously, China should reconsider their stance on this particular set of regulations if they want the West to understand them.

I live in the USA AND I don’t mind the split as long as they air the second season. I don’t like the long wait between season. They shouldn’t wait a year. I love this drama and I really do like the lead actress. I too think this is one of her best roles. I’ve seen her in the Longest Promise and Oath of Love. Both dramas were great also.

I loved season 1 but having to wait so long for season 2 is such BULLSHIT. I miss the days when Asian dramas didn’t have multiple seasons and just a ton of episodes - it was fun! I’ve read the novel since season 1 finished and I’m still looking forward to it but I really wish I knew that season 2 was going to take a year to air - I’d have much preferred to watch it in one go as opposed to this two season bullshit.
Lost You Forever season 1 was great and I look forward watching season 2. I noticed several dramas using and abusing the fillers and retrospect scenes, to a point where I fast forwarded some. Therefore, I understand the concern. However, I also think that the Chinese authorities should let the market self-regulate, meaning that if the audience gets fed up, the public will watch less. The production companies would have to figure out a balance by themselves, since they need the audience even though they also need the funding from the advertisement to keep making their dramas, which I'm sure have been getting more expensive to produce. So, it's a difficult balance.

The regulations are all just a product of overthinking. The imposition of the episode length may be justifiable but the rest of the other regulations is a total nonsense especially the postponement of a 2nd season to up to a year. All nonsense.

Thank you for explaining ! No I think the new rules are ridiculous and I also get tired of trying to watch something an it's only 5 to 15 minutes long. So you watch a bunch of haphazard videos and it is about one episode.

Season 2 is set at 21 episodes.
This limitation on episode count is not that new, been 3 years now. Basically the Chinese government regulation dept. wanted in on the "action", a piece of the pie, that drama producers are making. Seeing that each drama can being in huge profits with all the advertisements.
But producers and ppl from the entertainment industry, don't think thats fair. Why should they be taxed more, when each individual actor already pays out hefty taxes, especially if the drama was a big success.
So discussions fell thru, obviously, and the Chinese regulators said: You guys don't wanna pay, ok, fine. You now can only have 40 episode dramas.
Along with that, the industry got sanctioned with many other BS details, such as:
- No more BL
- Certain historical genres must be accurate
- Different accents should be dubbed out
- nothing to make China look bad basically. Whole bunch of little bs regulations.
- No incest
(Lost you forever: main leads are real 1st cousins in the original novel. But to avoid having any possible issues with the Chinese regulatory board, in the drama, Xiao Yao's mother called the Granny "master" instead of mother.

I don't know about the episodes,seasons etc and rules if f china ...but as a viewer I really enjoy most of the Chinese dramas and off course it shouldn't be dragged...i m very much in love with the acting skills and handsome ,cute face of tan jian ci ...to tell the truth m just not fine with the 1 year gap between seasons...m freakingly waiting to see the face and acting of Tan jian Ci....uhhh i was bit cursing china their rules for not showing me his face...tats it...but plssss as a viewer understand just waiting for him like damn...just release Season 2 of Lost U Forever.... The first half of this show was so amazing, but it got so sluggish with all the political maneuvering. Had to force myself to keep watching to see who she ends up with. Hard to imagine there is still 21 episodes to go. I think limiting screentime is an excellent decision.
