I totally agree with VelikyUstyug1.... The builder, Gabler, was a genius. How he crafted the organ structure around the glass windows at the insistence of the monks is amazing. The individual flute tones, shimmering reeds, and the smooth but distinct principals....wow, makes one ponder the 'other side'...this man was a genius. Too bad Bach didn't live to hear it.....JPW.
For people frantically searching for the recording, this is Gerald Gannn's (not Weinberger) Krebs recording on Naxos. It starts with "Wer nur den lieben..." and ends with "Ach her mich" ;)
There aren't enough superlatives to describe this performance, and the instrument on which it is played. With this marvelous example of color and character in an organ, why, oh why can't present day builders voice an instrument with the skill and beauty Gabler has given us? Have you noticed how modern day organs in their specifications and voicing are so homogenous ? Give us a reason, Mr. Organ Builder to come hear your instrument versus the one down the road.
I wonder also why they can't build the cabinets with the same beauty as with the old instruments, instead of slapping plywood together as they do today.
