Cargo Trailer Camper Conversion / Bunk Bed with DIY Lift
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 сер 2024
- For my cargo trailer to camper conversion, I'm adding the bunk bed in this video. I also get the refrigerator in. This is the easiest DIY RV bed lift system I could come up with. I need a bug-out RV for hurricane evacuations so I'm converting my cargo trailer to a camper that sleeps 5. It's going to have two beds, a dining area, a kitchen, and a bathroom. Can I fit all this into a 12-foot long trailer? Find out. With the dinette done it's time to move on to the bunk bed and bathroom walls next. I will be following this up with more videos showing the conversion.
Thanks for watching!

Can't even begin to explain how much I love watching John C Reilly convert a cargo trailer into a bunch of memories for his family.
LOL 😆😂🤣 You win the comments today!
@@HAXMAN Why thank you, and keep it up.
Ahhhhh. I loved seeing the German Shepherd pop up in the video. I lost mine to cancer a couple of years ago. Still miss him terribly. Shepherds are just the best.
I’m sorry for your loss. You’re absolutely right. They are the best!
never apologize for great lighting!
Thank you HAXMAN! Your upper bunk idea has giving me hope for my trailer build! Today and yesterday/month... I was brainstorming what to do with the upper bunk to get it out of the way. I have a lower bunk I want to have open for people to sit on as a bench. After hours if the upper bunk is needed I can lower it down your way! Some of your ideas are very sharp. if I come up with an EZ lift method I will let you know. Thanks, TM
Thanks so much! I’m so glad you found the video helpful. I’d love to know any way you come up with to make it better!
@@HAXMAN I was thinking 6? Guide rods. Large
diameter 1"? dowels in corners and middle of ends. Long coil springs with light to medium tension. When the bed is down the springs will be compressed. When lifting it up the six springs will assist you.Century Spring Corp. 5959 Triumph Street, Commerce, CA 90040

I like that idea. Nice and simple.👍
I have a Hisense refrigerator. After 1 year, full time use. Zero problems!
Love your videos.
That’s great to hear. Thanks so much 😃
I've watched this video like 20x already and it's still funny, please more video
Whoops didn’t mean to hit dislike. Like button applied. I’m flying through your channel, top tier content.
Thanks for the chuckles... you make this look sooooo easy!
"Safety first!"
proceeds to use table saw without push sticks
"safety first" he says then uses hands straight on table saw 2 seconds later hahaha :D
i been was watching your videos all day. you make it all too 😅fun
7 x 12 is the perfect size. Thank you.
Running your fingers next to that table saw blade, “gutsiest move I ever saw Maverick” 😂
😂 Thanks Hollywood
One day, the piece will buck, & he'll be called " last three fingers Haxman" I'm saying this, to try to get him to no longer do that. It doesn't set a good example either. There's a really good reason why every table saw manufacturer insist that we never ever put our fingers anywhere near the blade!
I was thinking, if you're still considering feedback, that you could actually hardwire the toilet, depending on the required voltage. Then ya'll wouldn't have to worry about the batteries.. Just a thought. Anyway, love your channel! Keep it up!
Watching you wrestle with that bunk had me laughing. Makes me wonder if a hand crank, a single cable and a bunch of pulleys could help raise and lower it a tad smoother. LOL
I'm digging this build!
If my suffering can bring joy to you, my job is done. 😂 I think you're definitely right. I'll look into something like that in the near future but for now I was afraid a storm would pop up on me before I was ready. Thanks!
Man my back hurts watching you try to do the bunk. 🤣🤣😂🤣😂
I enjoyed this entire video... jokes and all!
Lol 😂 the
refrigerator arrived.
Absolutely awesome thanks for sharing
Ok you're hilarious! Love your simple bunk idea. Kind of makes me want to change ours. Not sure hubby would agree with that LOL. Thanks for sharing how you did this. We love to get new ideas from people.
Thanks so much!!
You are a fun UA-cam star 😊
Loved this video, love your sense of humour.
Thank you!
8:45 - a 2" piano hinge into 1' sections? Didn't know you were a magician.
🤫😎
You are the man. I want that shirt
Good skills... Great entertainment!!!
That is the funniest thing ever watching you hoist that bed up. Great idea but funny as hell.
It's currently 27° with a winter weather advisory. And I'm watching your video in my cargo camper. The wood stove is doing it's job at a 90° interior temperature. They tell me "dual purpose" (sauna) and I believe I'm getting there.
Wow! Sounds awesome! 😃
@@HAXMAN , new subscriber bro, thanks for the vids!
Thank you so much!
To keep those blocks from swinging when you put the bed down maybe you could try those Neil Diamond magnets recessed into the wood? Just throwing that into the universe. Love the videos and have recently become addicted to them so thank you!
Watching you reminds me of working with my Dad!!!
I'm so glad! Thanks!
What a great video. Actual good humor and fun for a change. Thanks for this.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!
Keepupthegoodwork
Great looking build man! Love your humor, editing and very informative.
Thank you very much!
Great video editing . . .
So I put a bed with storage under it on one side of the trailer which is really cool for sleeping and sitting but now I'm thinking I dont have room for much storage on the other side over the axle so how am I going to balance the load unless I put very small storage there for water jugs. I may have to convert it to the way you did it in this video . . . It wont be all that hard and I wont waste that much plywood.
I like the way you work, the only thing I do different is I use glue and a brad nail gun instead of pre-drilling and countersinking screws. Even if I do use screws I dont countersink them any more because these new screw guns drive them in so deep you dont need to counter sink them. The glue itself is stronger than the wood . . . yada yada . . . :o)
Great sense of humor as well . . .
Got a new follower...funny video! First one I saw and it’s a winner.I’m locked in now.
Thank you very much!
@@HAXMAN real people real life!
This is unreal. I’m subscribing RIGHT. NOW.
Cabling system would be cheap and easy add for lifting the bed ... A few holes drilled , eye hooks & walla.... While still staying basic & simple .
Thanks for the chuckles !
Great idea! I'm definitely going try something like that. Thanks!
I just got a 7x14. I’ll be doing some work on it soon. It has a little bit of work done to it, but I’m going to have to undo most of it. No insulation. That’s a nonstarter here in the south. Then it just gets better form there. 🤣
Sounds great!
I have a great idea...come practice all your “ Genius ideas” on my “White Box”. I want to convert it over. I used it as my landscaping truck. 12’ cube ❤️😎🐾🐾🇺🇸
Great video. You cracked me up though.
Thanks!
i am late to this party...great video. I am going to start a build of my own this spring. I may make a upper bunk like you. I just thought if you were to put a bunch of holes in the bed bottom it help lower weight and it helps it breath. Take care
That’s a great idea. I actually almost did that but then I was too lazy to drill all the holes. 😄 Thanks
Really nice workmanship!
Thank you!
Now that's a dog!
I hope you end up using actuators! They would make your life easier!
Underrated videos. Good ideas and entertaining. Plus doggy.
Thank you so much!
Very clever bunkbed lift system. Good job.
Thanks!
Like your style man. Great job, and thanks for sharing.
I appreciate that!
First time seeing your videos. I liked it! Funny and informative!!
Thanks so much!
I'm still waiting for that mattress you said you were going to build. 😂🤣😂🤣
I've gotten a little behind 😅 More to come soon 😃
These videos are just haxtastic!. Just a thought about adding beds to trailers. Why not use pipe and canvas to make the bed? Two poles on the long sides and the canvas hanging like a hammock. It would be less weight too. Cannot wait what you come up with next. :)
look at disc-o-bed s
I spy a Ruger box up on that shelf, nice choice!
Shhh don't tell UA-cam 😉
Safety first *pushes 2x4 through table saw with fingers*
You are a funny dude. I don't know how the hell it took me so long to find your channel...
Hey, Funny vid so here's some simple advise. Bevel the top and bottom ends about a !/2 inch and going up and down will be a lot easier.
Thanks and thanks! 😁
I just found your channel
First time I have laughed this hard all year
Thank you lol
I built a CTC last year
I'm so glad, thanks! That's awesome 😃
Use a block and tackle on both ends (Pulley system), to lessen the weight immensely. No need to change anything just add-on. Easy as pulling a cord to raise mini blinds!!!
Did you say “farty” people?!! 😂
Entertaining video. Definitely not building a lightweight camper. Will definitely stand up to roughhousing. LOL!
L.O.L. comments he puts fingers to close to saw table blade. I laughing over square lines for the chop box. All around nice job though. Think you could of used 3/4 plywood in place of studs for maybe less weight on the lift bunk. But again sweet build and item testing for many as I have a 6x12 v-nose I'm thinking same thing on. I also have a great bug out truck. An 88' f150 with nicely not over done body/frame lifts, 90,000 miles on straight 6cylinder mated to the granny tranny that can pull stumps out. Great gas mileage with dual tanks. 4x4, mint interior with luxury captain seats, all power with cruise control. 32x5 all terrain tires and highboy fiberglass cap.
What a funny Builder.. lol. I wished you would be around us to help 😌 with our VAN or maybe Cargo Trailer.. lol.. This is just incredible awesome!! 😊
Thank you very much!
@@HAXMAN You are very welcome..!! I see a good hard working and knowledgeable Person.. lol.. You should be on TV with that kinda Humorous Attitude!! Happy Holidays and stay safe and healthy 💕
@@gabrielastardust1684 Very kind of you to say. You as well!
Love your humor
Thank you!
@8:01 Smooth as silk, and Ive subbed
😂 Thanks!
Here's a simple solution to your back breaking, rediculous to handle bunk. Put pins every 6", & raise it incrementally one side at a time, untill it's at the desired height. It may seem tedious, but eliminates your present delema.
Almost everything you put in is weight lowers your gas mileage for as long as you own the trailer. It also puts more weight on the axles. Use alum channel or unistrut will put less weight than using all those 2x4.
With metal you get the strength.
No doubt metal would be preferred but I’m more comfortable working with wood.
Properly dried wood weighs about the same and is cheaper. The key is to use the smallest size lumber you can to do the job. Most people overbuild and don't use proper joinery.
Your a freaking nut. I like your sense of humor. On your bed lift have you ever thought of a weight system like the old windows a few pulleys some cables and a few weights would take a lot of work off lifting that bed. Maybe even a small block and tackle on each side would work. Either way it looks good I have to check out your other video's.
😂 Thanks so much! I'm definitely going to do something to help with lifting. That's something I hadn't thought of.
Thanks for the video! Great tips and very entertaining! :)
Thank you very much!
Dude! When are you going on a comic tour? I will be there! Oh, the camper trailer is great! 😃
😄Thank you!
For bunk, I would use locking drawer sliders just to guide and hold in place.
That's a great idea!
#1 in the .#2 business Haaaaaa, hey Im really liking the build
In case they shipped it on its side or whatever , let it stand upright for a day. Don't want it to dry start. Like priming oil pump on new engine build.
👍
you crack me up
Dude your funny! Doing a great job man!!!
Thanks so much!
I do applaud you for doing the trailer for emergency use...but I am rather curious as to why you didn't purchase a used travel trailer? Expense? Do it yourself?? No matter, looks like you're doing a great job!! Take care, be safe and God bless! (Living on the Outer Banks of North Carolina with a few hurricanes our way also...I hope you never have to use it for it's intended purpose!!!)
I originally bought this trailer to use as my office at my old house. Then when we moved I didn’t need it for that anymore so it was available. 😄
Good Job!
Thanks!
Looking for the follow up video
That ‘lifting bed’, would not be out of place in a nuclear bunker. To lighten it up and improve air flow and to help prevent condensation under mattress; why not drill large holes through like in your bench ‘air bed’ ? You could also do this to the bottom leaf of your table/bed extension, without going right through of course ! Great build, great upholstering, easy to change and clean. Following in U.K. Regards AJ
Thanks AJ! That's a great idea. I just might do that! Thanks for watching!
You are truly hilarious!!!
Thank you very much!
Nice
Thanks!
Thanks for watching everyone! If you have any ideas please let me know in the comments.
Love the build.
I wanna party with you.lol
Check out the mini splits.
Way quieter and more efficient.
@@rolandrockstarmega1299 Thank you very much! 😄 Thanks for the tip!
Funny guy....!
I love your videos
Thanks!
Put a awning on it
That's a great idea!
Please do it and show a 24 hour video of it
Hmmm. Wait a min. Safety first? Where’s that push stick instead of running your fingers between the saw fence and blade?
Probably a dumb question so please excuse but why is the door on the driver's side?
Buen trabajo 👍 🇲🇽
Gracias!
It's crocked ! your funny so ill subscibe
Thanks!
We jus found you tonight a s binge watched and laughed so hard !!!!
I see a Ruger box in the mess behind you 👍
I like to think of that mess as organized chaos 😉
i have no sense lol too funny!!!
Have you thought about using balsa wood? They are very light and strong! Remember the ww2 de dehavilland mosquito fighter plane bomber they are made of balsa wood.
You have inspired me. #funny #WTF #teeter #galofglue #usingyourhead
I'm so glad! 😄 Thanks!
which foam did you use? This is good stuff hahahah.,
Great Channel! A lot of great projects! Keep it up. What are the measurements for the trailer?
Thanks! It's a 7x12
Why did you only thank Shirley? What about Laverne ?
Totally forgot Laverne. My bad
Use cement instead of 2x4's. Cement is heaver so less likely to blow over in a hurricane. Remember the 3-little pig story? Hahaha. Ok, sarcasm off.
You said safety first then you pushed a 2x4 through table saw without using push stick. Naughty naughty.
You're hilarious, I love you
😁Thanks!
Man you’re killing me!!! Good stuff!
Thanks!
Halleluyer I found some more glue 😅😂
Please use a piece of scrap wood to push your stock thru the table saw.
