This isn't the first Gundam to ditch the red/blue/yellow/white colour scheme. The Gundam MK-II debut with its dark Titans colour. Double X had no blue, instead being replaced by black. You can also make a case for EZ8 being beige only. Lore wise, it just makes sense for him to use the Sword Impulse instead of the Force or Launcher. They're inside a Colony so beam rifles are a no go, so melee weapons just seems like the most logical loadout to go with.
