Yah, hiking those east side canyons in July can be hot. World record flights are set by sailplanes and hang gliders along the eastern face of the Sierras. Very nice post, thanks for taking us along. I miss California, and I particularly miss the High Sierra.
🥳So great to see you back on the trail for another season! You and other solo women backpackers have inspired me to go solo this year. Keeping my eye on snow and water levels. Still have a several more weeks before hitting the High Sierra. Hope my destinations will be open. You don’t know how grateful I am that you don’t add music to your videos but allow us to enjoy the music of nature. Great job! Anxious to see your new adventures. 😍
Thanks! It was super nice to go get out again! Hopefully in a few weeks the snow will be gone and I can get some dirt therapy! Nature needs so soundtrack!
Hello! Thanks for the video. My husband and his 3 friends are coming back from Whitney tomorrow. I was looking for current news and came across your video. Now I feel like I got to enjoy the hike too. Thank you!
@@johngalt3659 it will be great. Maybe chilly at night. That’s it. And chill kills the skeeters so all good! I did the HST last year (UA-cam video exists). It was beautiful! You’ll have a wonderful time!!
@nikkik538 love me some cold night sleep. Years ago, I did the hst to the gap and back. Lake Hamilton and precipice are just, wow!! I can't wait for this one. How many nights?
Your blog just popped up. I'm glad you're hiking again. I suspect the trails out of Bishop are a bit treacherous as well higher up. I'm planning on going to Lone Pine Lake later this summer and Bishop in the fall. Stay well and safe.
This is on our bucket list to do later this summer. I know it’s hard to answer what I’m about to ask due to all the individual variables, but how would you rank the difficulty of this trip ? We don’t do much high mountain hiking but do shorter hikes and some 10k type fun run/ walks etc.
@@gregoryfarris4801 I planned on doing some fishing up high for a day or two before. The distance of this hike is well below my threshold but I know how altitude can make something like this Into a whole other situation.
Hi Nikki, thanks for sharing. In this video, you showed us a small section of snow. Was that the only section or are there more? Can you get around the section/s of snow without having to hike/walk on them?
Hi! There were 2 snow patches on the trail in shady spots on the way to lone pine lake. They were not on a dangerous slope and easy to walk on. It’s been so hot this week I would be surprised if they are still there at all even a few days later.
Beautiful 😻

I just came across this video and after seeing those heart shaped sunglasses I now remember passing you on the trail on my way down on this day!

I hope they had a great and successful hike! Next time you should join them! 💖
What a difference a month makes! We went on Father's Day this year, and the lake was completely frozen over.
Great vid! My hike date is Sept. 20 to Whitney so hopefully no more snow on the switchbacks by then. Happy trails!
I think you’ll be fine :) have a great time!
Awesome! Leaving September 23 or 4. HST over whitney to the portal. I'm sure the condition will be absolutely perfect!! How could it not?
@@johngalt3659 lol that snow is deep! Happy trails!

See you out there! I have let a lot of permits slide already but I have some ready for the fall as well. I can’t wait!

Suggest acclimating up at Horseshoe Meadows for 2-3 days. I have walked down from Whitney to Portal, but not up.
