I think the XKR is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. It has aged incredibly well and now turns more heads than other much more expensive exotica
@@lutomson3496 A friend of mine has used his one as daily transport for the last decade and I can’t recall a single occasion where it’s let him down. Mind you, he does service it properly
I have two Vette one convertible and one SRC( solid roof construction) both limited edition special construction from GMC.. One X100 (2002) 4.2 supercharger.. once brought never selling.. except when I cannot drive anymore.. two for one for the Vette.. Now days it's $125,000 for new Vette ahhhhhh and $155,000 for New Jaguar XF 😮 ahhhhhh
Have owned a 2005 XKR since 2014 and the only problem I have encountered is a burned out instrument panel light. I never get tired of looking at those curvaceous, drop dead, gorgeous lines. In the US Corvettes, which are great cars, are a dime a dozen. Very rarely see another XK8 or XKR. A thing of beauty is a joy forever.
Ive literally owned both, i had a Yellow 2002 C5 owned it for 11 years..and 2 years ago bought an 01 XKR, the corvette was awesome but i find the XKR to be a better ride, the 'Eaton' Supercharger is super responsive and i love the whine along with the growl of the Borla exhaust, both handle equally in slaloms but the Jag just feels superior overall, the X100 (1997-2006) Jags were built right.
I remember when I had my 02 xkr, a stock c5 pulled up on me on the highway. We raced on 3 and were dead even. It was so cool. He's lighter but I had more power. I know I now have a crazy tuned ftype V8s, but I damn sure miss that xkr. I'm in search of one to use as a daily again.
I am a Jaguar Fan, own an X308 XJ SC, also love the looks of the X100. For me, the X100 has sort of the same lines as the XJ220. These X100 4,2 Liters are slightly unique, most were 4,0. Now for the Corvette, this C5 beats all the others, that were build after the C1 and C2. Love the looks of the C5, especially the rear side, that is so impressive, and wide. Wouldn't mind owning them both, but I cannot imagine, using the C5 as a daily driver. Because of the firmer ride, the louder pipes, and the higher fuel consumption. Thank You, for the nice Video!
Just bought a 2008 XKR Coup and I'm in heaven!! When the supercharger revs up I feel giddy, plus if you remove fuse 19 in the middle back seat fuse box it opens the butterfly valves in the exhaust and you get that low growl. This car is amazing!
The X150 is a quite different car in character than the X100, but also excellent. I got an X100 just because it is SO pretty, but I often wonder if I made the wrong choice.
@@iainbagnall4825 The X100 is a better looking car than the X150- it has definite E-Type styling cues, which the X150 doesn't. The X150 is too bulky in my opinion, it's corpulent and lacks grace. The X100 is the optimum size- without appearing to be a huge lump like the X150- the front end of the 150 just isn't right either- the headlights don't sit well in design terms I feel.
XKR for me. I had an XK8 conv as a daily for over 6 months @ 100 miles a day up mountains and through backroads. Took it to the track and drag raced it many times (we won!). Never had a single issue. Google an XKR with an aftermarket exhaust..because they sure do sound amazing when you remove the 3 out of 5 mufflers. Some crackles and pops and refined growling but no drone or loudness at normal cruising speeds. The XK8 was rear ended and totaled..but I just bought an XKR!
Apart from the obvious sir william lyons era, the ford era is by far the best time ever for jaguar cars.some of the best styled and best quality cars they have ever made.the modern jags since xf just dont do it anymore.much prefer the smooth refinement of the jag.i just dont understand the fascination with noisy exhausts.
Jag for me. Utterly timeless design that is still unique today. Actually better looking than it's contemporary Aston DB7 (which was stunning in itself). The new Jags and Aston's design are so forgettable I can't even recall if they look like fat Hondas or over the top Mercedes...
Totally agree. Compared to the Jaguar X100s, most modern sports cars look like they come from the "angry toaster" school of automotive design. From a styling viewpoint I have always seen the X100 as a reincarnation of the iconic E-Type. Gorgeous curvaceous and sensual lines that will forever look beautiful.
What really distinguished Jaguar from other brands, was that they made the lowest Sport Sedans. The X300/X308 has a height of 1,31M, the X350 has a height of 1,44M. Same with that J-Gate, no other Super Sedan brand offered the driver, the option, to switch, from automatic transmission to manual.
@@skelejp9982 truthfully not something I, or anyone I have known has ever commented on before; and looking at the C5 and XK above, they seem to be about the same height. Nevertheless - if that's what distinguishes them for you, then I certainly can't argue; for me it's definitely the design, which in a world of cars that all look the same - is unusual. Sadly I think the replacement for the X100 (the X150?) was really a slightly blocky clone of the DB7 - which was a shame and undoubtedly impacted DB7 sales; and the new Jaguar sports car, whilst a performer, looks like a Japanese clone from Fast and Furious with American styling queues for good-sales. Great performer but that's all; I'll take the XK100 design every time...
The X100 really is the modern E-Type, the X150 looks too much like a fish, and the F-Type looks too round and chunky. The pre-facelift F-Type does look good on it’s own but next to an X100 you will notice how fat it looks perhaps F-Type stands for Fat-Type 😂
One big advantage of the Corvette is the reliability and repairability, especially if you live in the US. The LS1 is super reliable and very cheap and easy to fix. Plus, you can get the Corvette with a 6-speed manual, which makes it even better: more fun, faster, and more fuel efficient. Corvette for me! (and I got one!)
With the taking over by Ford in the nineties, the reliability-problems of Jags were in the past. I daily drive a xkr (2001) more than 6 years, no isues or big problems, love it, hope to drive it another 6 years.
I own an 03 XKR, and will also own a C5 soon. I know that Corvettes are more known for their reliability compared to other sports cars, but the XK is not unreliable. I daily drive the car in the summer and its gets me to and from everywhere I need to be reliably. There are some Jag things you need to keep up on, but overall reliability and cost of ownership is no more expensive than that of the C5.
Well now, the stock X100 exhaust note with its five silencer boxes is really hobbled in an exhaust sound-off. With three of those boxes removed, like mine (shameless plug), you'll get a proper exhaust note worthy of that R badge.
Have owned a black on black 2005 XKR coupe for 10 years, and just added a Crystal Red over cashmere 2008 Corvette coupe. The XKR is a sophisticated yet stunning brunette with an English accent, in a strapless black cocktail dress, pearl necklace, and high heels, while the Vette is a barefooted strawberry blonde, wearing cut-off jeans, a wet T-shirt, and with legs that go all the way. I am in love with them both.
I have a 2001 XKR and as a Detailer I would say the Jag is so much more elegant feeling and looking but if you like the attraction and sound Corvette is the way to go
Definitely the C5 ❤️. As a C7 Z06 Owner i can tell that the feeling in a corvette is indescribable. Especially in yellow (mine is all black - looks like a batmobile). In the end of the day, I want to have fun while driving and don't want to remember how under the radar i was :) The interior from that older Jaaaags are beautiful hands down but the C5 took a big step forward. Not that noble but really well build 👌🏻. And trust me, you don't even noticed anything inside after coming back from a ride 😎 Both of them represent a glory time of car culture ❤️
When you mentioned LT1 you emberdded a pic of the L98 350cui engine. And also forgot to mention LT4(1996) C4 wasn't outdated performance wise when they launched the C5. Of course the C4 was old and needed a replacement after 12years of production run, there is no question about that. Anyway great video guy, I loved to see these 2cars next to each other. Hard choice to be honest. If I needed a daily I would go for the XKR but If I liked something for weekend like a short joyride on curvy roads I would definitely take the C5
Your conclusion is right. Drive the Jaguar as a daily driver and save the Corvette for the weekend and special occasions, both brilliant cars. Perhaps borrow the company Visa card and grab the Corvette lol.
Hard not to like the Corvette- it's very American- in your face looks and sounds fantastic. I own an XK8 and wouldn't swop it for daily use, but the Corvette would make a superb weekend car to go for a blast in. Really, the XK8 is a luxury GT, whilst the Vette is more sports orientated. If I was going on holiday to Italy and driving across France and through Switzerland, the XK8 would win hands down- for sheer fun and thrills, the Vette would win- they both excel at their intended roles. I'd far sooner have the Vette than a soulless German BMW or Audi.
Whats the best year reliability and performance for the XK? I know the corvette is a true performance car where the XK is a GT but the 4.2 and 5.0 R's put down some good power. It might be the transmissions that hamper the true experience.

If I HAD to replace BOTH cars - I dont think I could refuse the obviously sensible choice that is the corvette.
