Not the outcome I was hoping for after the great success we have had with the toaster.

Agreed with your thoughts about Dualit misleading advertising. They have so far refused to send out a heater element to me. They use a custom made press to remove and replace the element at a cost of £54 inc postage which is a big chunk of original purchase price. I want to support British manufacturing but was very disappointed by their attitude so far. I suggested their design team make it repairable by the consumer next time. If you want a well made kettle buy an old Russel hobbs k2.

A bit wordy, but I agree with the conclusion. The LEDs failed quickly on ours so we can only tell it's on by the noise (which is not as quiet as they make out). When our Classic Kettle dies I shall buy a cheap Chinese one for a fraction of the repair cost (this is the only non-Chinese brand on the market). Such as waste and such a pity.
Also not impressed by their toasters. We had a 2-slot one with the dial like yours but it went wrong often and was inconsistent. So we bought the 4 slot NewGen toaster which seems to have a mind of its own. The second slice will usually set the smoke alarm off, so you have to turn the dial down between slices - which is not as advertised. Home-made bread doesn't toast fully even on the max setting. Goodness knows what settings 1-5 are ever used for - taking the chill off, maybe? And now my wife has broken it by poking a vacuum cleaner nozzle inside, so I guess we'll see how user-maintainable it is.

Thank you for this warning. I had this in a shopping cart, and just thought I’d see if there was any reviews on UA-cam - pleased I did.
I too love my Dualit toaster, and I was hopeful about this kettle. I’ve passed on this purchase.

Yes, after our toaster I thought we would be on to a good thing. But alas NO! Trouble is, when we bought ours, there were no real reviews to warn us of the pitfalls.

I have to agree. My Dualit toaster is easy to clean & maintain if anything goes wrong, a bullet proof design & well supported. The Classic Kettle is a pile of .
In my case, kettle has lasted through its warranty & since then, to get it to boil, we have to hold down the switch until its reach almost boiling point or it switches itself off. This used to be sorted by regular descaling (weekly with white vinegar), but now it'll even shake itself off immediately after being descaled. A very expensive mistake.
To be fair, it's very quiet after descaling, that's its single good point.

I have the same problem, they will not sell you the parts but have offered to fix, with a cost of aporox £57 + parts . Not worth the cost of repair....shame....

Bloody funny review. Brutally honest. As an engineer I was interested to see your thoughts. Great down to earth, as it is review. Love it.
Probably won't be going down this route now as I would want to get a kettle for life.

Really don’t like their kettles but love their toasters . I’m planning to get the compact two slice toaster from Dualit.

Hi Ben, my Dualit kettle arrived today. Same as the one you reviewed! 08/23. Will be interesting to see how it holds out. I just tested it against our old kettle ,boiling 1 litre side by side from cold tap. The Dualit was much quieter and boiled in 2min 43 seconds, the other kettle still works and will use in our boat. It took an extra 54 seconds and being much louder it felt longer than that. However time will tell! Have the toaster also, liked very much your video and immediately subscribed. Totally share your opinion on Brexit, complete lunacy, unfortunately I fear our children will pay the price.

We couldn't fault the kettle when it first arrived, but it didn't last long. Toaster on the other hand is still going strong.

Switch failed on my £150 Dualit Classic kettle after exactly 12 months, Dualit washed their hands of it because I bought through Amazon. Like an idiot I bought another (to maintain a match other Dualit products in kitchen), and guess what, 14 months old and the switch has packed up. £300 wasted on Dualit kettles and back to using our 9 year old £15 Breville.

Great Vid Sir . I have one of these, what a piece of Crap!! Also the most expensive kettle I have ever bought and without doubt thd worst . Constantly had problems with power, and you can burn your hand if you are not careful ,as you pour the water out . AVOID .

I think the most important issue is that it's not made clear that you have to send it back to get the element replaced. That's not acceptable to me. Mine is not very old and it's giving me problems already with the switch not staying on. My previous very cheap kettle from Argos lasted longer than this pile of junk. Great video Ben.

We've had our Dualit Classic Kettle since 2016 and had no problems, although, our house is plumbed with a soft-water system. Maybe that makes a difference?

Had ours for a few years now with no problems with tripping but it has started dribbling water from one of the level window seals and leaves a small puddle on the work surface. I suspect that Dualit won't send me out a seal (Although I will try them) otherwise I could try a bodge repair myself with some sealant.

We were quite disappointed with the kettle, especially after our experience with the toaster. Not sure what the best kettle is, but we replaced the dualit kettle with a Russel Hobbs, which was a third of the price. I made a video on the new kettle.

@@bensreviews.9311 Agree, so disappointed with ours. The price we paid we expected it would be a kettle for life. We've had the opposite problem to you, ours won't switch off. It's been descaled, allowed to dry for 24 hours as the instructions advised. Purchased 2 years ago, so well out of warranty. My daughter has a Russel Hobbs 21888 which is still working fine after 7 years. We have just purchased the same.

    • @RajNotTelling
      @RajNotTelling 2 роки тому

@James W Totally understood, but I know of manufacturers, first hand, who ship partially pre-assembled/fabricated from overseas only to have the last 10% - 20% completed in the UK just to get the 'Made in Britain' stamp. Would you call that fair?

Dualit Classic Kettle is rubbish, have same problem as described after less than 2 years. Expensive rubbish. My mum's got a £25 Bosh kettle that's over 5 years old and she has 6 or 7 cups of tea a day. Lesson learned.
