Silly story, way back when I was actively training with sticks, I would always go for the fingers holding the weapon, not the wrist or forearm. I figured, where I am from, it would be illegal to use a blade in self defense so I would train with sticks to try to "break" fingers. Non-lethal but really, really preventative for follow-ups from any opponents. To this day, I don't know whether I was wrong or right.

Thanks for that insight. It all depends on the context of what you're doing at that moment. There's the saying, "blade seeks flesh, stick seeks bone." In any country, depending on the rules and laws, you train what law allows you to do. In any 3rd world country, they're not thinking about the laws if a fight breaks out. They just react and sometimes the outcome is really extreme. Depending on what you have on you, the object is to survive by any means necessary. It's all on the mindset of the individual at that moment and time. If you can't de-escalate a situation, and the situation goes from 0-100 in a second, it's difficult to think what you can and cannot do at that moment, especially when weapons are involved.
