Facility dog Pella comforts children testifying in court

- Some of the most vulnerable victims and witnesses involved in court cases are finding comfort in special canines. The job of facility dogs is to bond with children. The animals help them cope with the trauma of facing an accuser or giving testimony in court. Barry Petersen visited the Arapahoe County District Attorney's office in Colorado to meet with an important member of the special victims unit.
Dogs are the closest things to angels we will ever see on Earth. They are the literal, furry and adorable embodiment of non-judgemental, unconditional love.

That’s so awesome that they have a furbaby to help children overcome anxiety and fear when having to testify in court and tell their side of the incident that they were a witness to or a victim of the incident. There should be more of these furbabies in every state.
It taints the jury! It clearly hurts a defendant who has a right to a fair trial!

If a traumatized child giving testimony doesn't evoke sympathy from the jury I don't think the addition of a dog will do anything.
Unless you have some sort of evidence to support what you're saying...but I think it's a safe assumption that you don't.
It is wonderful having a Dog have a Job that can help children feel comfortable and safe in court.
I am going on 78, and if I ever had to testify in court I would ask for a therapy dog! My own rescue…a Maltese I just rescued gives me a lot of comfort! I went to a senior rescue here in Indiana and brought this 11 yr old baby home! I figured since I am a senior I would give a hard to place older dog the best life possible! ❤🐶 I learned she had been found wandering the street alone, and turned in. How lucky my hubby, and I are to have her. I have a feeling there were children in her life…my 12 yr old grandson will walk in the door, and my Rivy just doesn’t get a little excited, but we are talking dog squealing, crying happily and kisses all over his face kind of love….he loves all folks, but this over the top reaction is reserved for the boy! Thanks for allowing me to share! 😊

I can't believe children have to go to court to testify about abuse, this is outrageous. And surely it can't be true that they must face their (alleged) abuser? Same for ANYONE who's been traumatised/injured by someone - to have to face them in court is torture.
Dogs (and cats and other creatures) are wonderful at calming and healing people, including me - I'd love one, but sadly I can't always look after MYSELF properly (I've got a brain injury) so I can't take on an animal (or bird) who will rely on me.
I think these service dogs should be available to anyone forced to go to court, including adults and equal for both sides = also for the accused - many accused are not found guilty/are not guilty.
I wish there was more funding for service dogs for ill, injured and disabled people - plus help to care for them such as dog-walking (walking hurts me) etc. I bet they save LOADS of medical and other costs but I expect there is very little research to prove that - yet...
Jenny Hughes When I was 8 I was lucky enough to not have to testify as my abuser plead guilty. I just had to go to a room at a hospital and tell my story to a single doctor, have it recorded, and I was done. However, if there are multiple instances or questioning is required, it’s hard to not have the victim testify.

I didn't know this was a actual thing. Until I seen the video. I think it's a very good thing for kids who has been through a traumatic experience. I absolutely love this idea.
