Kuuku Ya’u and Uutaalnganu Native Title Determination 25 November 2021

Kuuku Ya’u and Uutaalnganu peoples dance moves were broadcast across Australia after they became the recognised native title holders of nearly 2,200 square kilometres under the first successful determination in the powerful Cape York United #1 Claim (CYU#1 Claim).
Coverage of the dancing celebrations outside the Cairns Supreme Court was broadcast by the ABC and picked up by other news outlets throughout Australia.
The CYU#1 Claim is one of the largest ever native title claims in Australia, filed on behalf of Cape York TOs on 11 December 2014.
The total claim covers almost 55% of Cape York. The November 25 determination is the momentous first step in an enduring struggle by Cape York TOs to have their ancestral lands recognised.
