- Yes, you can drink your coffee from any mug or cup but there is something special about drinking from a wooden kuksa. If you are looking for a pre-made kuksa to take along on your bushcraft adventures the Dursten Lore 12 from Uberleben is a good choice
If you are interested in learning more about the knife and gouge I used to carve my kuksa you can reach Randal Graham through at Vinland Bushcraft on FaceBook

Thanks, I just got one of these, I lake the large capacity. I have made 5 Kusas so far. I need to hone my skills more. Take care.
I really enjoyed making my kuksa. I need to get back at it. Thanks for commenting
Finally, a bigger cup. It's nice to have a nice big mug for a wonderful hot coffee when you're tired and relaxing without having to pour more after only two sips. Also it's flat so yo don't have to think about where to place it. Good review, thank you. Good to see you out again.
Exactly what I thought when I saw it. Thanks for commenting
So succinct. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for commenting
Not a bad price for what looks to be a great kuksa. Good presentation!
Good price compared to the time and effort it takes to make one. Thanks for commenting.
I have one and completely agree with you about the handle. I took a wood burner and put a pattern on it for a little extra grip.
I may try re-profiling the grip or adding texture to it as you did. Thanks for commenting
Nice one Mark, Couldn`t agree with you more on the amount of effort it takes to get a Kuksa to a high level of finish. I am surprised though that you haven`t taken that handle to task and modified it to your liking.. and I know , you will, eventually.. Be well. and enjoy the coffee.
Already considering how to do it John. Thanks for commenting
Nice review Mark as always. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for commenting.
Decent looking kuksa for sure. Loving that little pot as well.
Thanks Randal
It certainly looks nice. What puts me off is "3. NO EXTREME TEMPS .. let the boiling liquid sit a few minutes before pouring", so no good for black tea. Also, what do you do about oiling the inside?
I read that as well but have poured boiling water in mine (for tea) without issue. I expect if the wood is very cold it could be at risk of cracking but I used it during our winter an did not have any problems. It comes fully sealed but I like flax seed oil for use on my mugs and spoons. It is an oil that polymerizes (turns hard) but it takes a few days for that to happen. Thanks for commenting
That's Dursten is a good size kuksa Mark at 12 oz, I like a big ol mug of coffee. 👍
Kupilka makes a large mug as well btw, it's the one I use.
Nice overview my friend, take care!
The large Kupilka is on my wish list. Thanks for commenting Wade
Looks like a decent measurement,
The 12 oz is great. Thanks for commenting Steve
Kuksas from Finland are made of birch Burls and the recommendation is that you never use soap on them. Drink whatever you drink in it and let it seep. I have one I brought in Helsinki and I have been using it for long. It takes in my coffee and Whisky and drinks the liquids I leave in it. I am however using coffee fat (left over when coffee seeks in) and is getting darker.
I like your hand carved mug though...
I like the Lora 12 because it seems to be symmetric and can be used both my right handed and left handed people. Its difficult for left handed ppl like me when a kuksa is made for right handed people
Right on. The kuksa I made is from birch. Birch burls hard to find here. The Lore 12 is nice for people who don't want to carve their own. Thanks for commenting
Hi Mark! A very interesting video about kuksas and a great recommendation too. You just got a new subscriber. Greetings from Brazil! 🇧🇷🏕🌳🏕🔥🥓🍻
Hello and welcome you my channel. I am glad you liked this video. Thank you for subscribing.
Nice Video, nice little Cup. I prefer Metal cups, i don't like the Woodtaste in my Coffee. But sometimes i should gif it a try . Thx for ure work
I prefer a ceramic mug to drink from but they are not really practical for the woods. I did not find any taste from this mug at all. Maybe because it is well sealed. Thanks for commenting
Well Mr.Young, I do like the cup, haven’t bought one yet and your cup looked nice too.
Thanks for your video!
I was very pleased with how my own kuksa turned out but it was a lot of work. Thanks for commenting
bought one and love it. I had been wanting one for a lone time but they all were just too small, that was until this one came out. I agree about needing a flair on the handle, but all in all, it's a great mug!
Uberleben did a good job on this one but I agree the handle could be better. Thanks for commenting
That is the reason I don't have one, they all are to small for my preference
This one seems to have a reasonable inside
It looks like a nice one, but I like your hand carved one best. If you knew me you’d know I love homemade items. Either way great video as always.
I do watch you videos on occasion. I prefer homemade and traditional where I can afford it or make it. More satisfaction in making it myself. That is not a realistic option for some people so this would be for them. Thanks for commenting.
Mark Young
Excellent point. We all have our own individual talents.
Loving the little pot too. Which one did you get?
The pot is the Camelwil 1.2L billy can. I have a review on it from about a year ago and will be doing another one shortly. Thanks for commenting
morning, Mark ; Great show & tell, Seen reviews on this & I'm impressed. Be Well Friend ! ATB T God Bless
Hi Terry. It is a well made mug. Perfect for someone who doesn't want to make their own. Thanks for commenting my friend

i tried to find one on Amazon about a month ago but they we not available, guess i'll have to try again ! Thanks for sharing buddy
I think they may be ramping up production now. They may also be coming out with bowls, plates, spoons, etc. Thanks for commenting Wayne
Bought one a few weeks ago
What’s your preference for wood when carving your own Luksa Mark?
I have only carved one kuksa but have carved a good number of spoons. I prefer birch as it is relatively soft for a hardwood, is very predictable in that it is less likely to split and has a nice clean look to it when finished. My other choices are maple and oak but both are much harder to carve. Thanks for commenting.
vary nice i need to make one great video
Making a kuksa or wood spoons, etc is very rewarding. Thanks for commenting
Where do I get one of those chair things????
I made this one from some heavy nylon fabric but you can buy them from Jeep at EconoChallenge on UA-cam or FaceBook

Nice! Actually ordered similar item this week, by Mochiglory @$12. Cheers
I just took a look. Very interesting. Looks smaller than the Lore 12. Closer to the other mug Uberleben has. Would be good to hear what you think of it. Thanks for commenting
@@MarkYoungBushcraft Uberlaben is a great quality brand. Everything I've ever bought from them is top notch. I took a chance at a cheap Asian source. I've owned and made wood cups before, so will advise when I get it if it's ok. I only wanted a one cup container for drinking and measuring. Cheers
No rings fir the handles?!
Not sure what you mean but I am interested. Can you give a bit more detail?
what your say..made from what..Malaysian oaks 4:31-4:33.. . proud to be Malaysian...
I would love to visit Malaysia some day. The people at Dursten said the wood is Hevea Basiliensis, otherwise known as Malaysian oak. Are you familiar with this tree? Thank you for commenting
@@MarkYoungBushcraft we call it pokok getah or rubber tree in english.. plant for cultivated their latex or susu getah...by btw i have order this Dursten kuksa 12 lore from their website..nice vid..
I prefer the exterior of the kutsu to appeal rounder. The lord 12 looks a bit too rigid.
It does appear a bit wide and squat. I think the look follows the larger capacity and maybe how it is machined. Flat bottom does make it stable. A tall version might be a bit tippy. My personal kuksa is very different design but I was able to decide what it would look like myself. Thanks for commenting.
Mark Young , yes, your personal kutsa looks very rustic and I like it even though it couldn’t seat on its butt lol!
For now I am happy with my kapilka. I heard a bigger version is now available. Make check with amazon. Thank you for all the bushcraft tips!
Great Video, seems like the Lore could be used for food as well. What do you think of your MATILDA ? Helikon has def got game with their products. I have some of their Gear from the Bushcraft line . What part of Canada are you from Mark? All the best from Yellowknife
At 12oz it is almost large enough for a small meal. I believe Dursten may be coming out with a bowl soon. I have had the Matilda for about 6 months and love it, I am about to do a review. Living down here on the rainy east coast...Nova Scotia. Thanks for commenting.
The best out of the three is your home made kuksa. I'm just about to start another one larger than my first. Way too small. Just wouldn't mean as much to me if I didn't make it myself.
I agree, I love having been able to make my own kuksa and am about to make another. Of course, not everyone is able to do so. Thanks for commenting
