@@NeroLeMorteI disagree. The devil in Sabrina was a whiny baby, who was not only stupid like he had never experienced a thing in his life but also naive. Also the fact that Luke Cook (the actor playing Lucifer) is a transphobe ruined any likeability of his portrayal. In any case, the family of Morningstars seemed like something out of a comedy show. Caliban just took them over like that.
The devil in Penny Dreadful was the cliched version, which almost all series and films use. Salem wasn't a perfect series, but far better than Penny. Penny Dreadful had potential to be an epic story but you could tell when it was budget cut scenes, and characters were eventually quite hollow. The absurd timejump forward in season 3 and the lazy end really just made it cheap feeling to me. Also, there was very little logic in the storyline. The demons chased her, and once she gave in that should've been the end. Instead, the good guys just walked in and killed her, reversing the end of the world. The Devil ended up being far less powerful than anything else. All the build up towards a prophecy was not at all what happened. How boring. At least Salem actually showed what happens next, instead of ending things at "Devil won"-trope. All the hype about how dangerous she was, how she had to be kept hidden and guarded , her seemingly godlike powers... A few thousand people died, and this was the "apocalypse"? Meh. They likely just ran out of ideas, and instead of getting more people involved to write it, they ended it.
The only thing I loved about this series was the Seer, Petrus. He's definitely someone I felt connected to and I love how your analysis of the characters.
I'm not sure what the issue with talking was. It was a drama series from the very beginning. Not a horror film. I found the end of Isaac fitting, but Mercy could've escaped anytime with her new lover as witches can create doors and travel. It was quite lazy writing to get her killed that way. But the same thing happens in most if not all Stephen King stories. Villains become dumb all of a sudden, especially at a crucial time when any other reasonable person would be on their highest alert at all times. And then they perish. What I did like about it was the non-happy ending. I just wish they would continue the story or at least spin it off, cause this time the Devil will absolutely win. Anne is a genius.
It’s interesting the best parts of the show were the ones you hated : Anne hale’s turn made sense as she’d always been pretending and trying to be good and for what ? To be treated like trash…she knew the only way to be free was through power and conquering her enemies, she’s by far the best character of the show as the evolution of this character was so interesting when you contrast s1 and s3. Secondly, countess was an icon that gave the show life , also the “too much” talking in the show was so important dialogue is very important to character based shows like Salem it’s not some action , thriller where the core is the scares it’s a human story on morality and love . Season 3 may have not been perfect but the last two episodes saved the show honestly…Anne doing all she did was cathartic , giving a good ending to Mary and John was cute well deserved ending and everyone else suffering was pretty brave for a tv drama and I loved that choice.
I liked the first series at the beginning until I actually visited Salem. Found 95% to 98% was fiction and most was filmed in Canada. The true history was much different. The pressing of guiles Corey, hangings and long church services was about the only truths. Saying that the first and second season were good but wish some more of the story was fleshed out better and more history as well as historic Danvers(Salem) were used.
@@donnarhodes1794 what diaries or journals are you talking about? Are they at the Peabody Essex museum? I guess the historians I spoke to in salem and the many books I've read on the subject and study of black magick/witchcraft and practice for over a 2 decades is all wrong. I'm sure you know better. Even though I've spoken to some of the decendants of those convicted and hanged. You must be right.
This show was a banger. The acting, the character development, the lore. I loved every minute.
I mean to be fair incest was kinda common in those days especially considering the colonial superstitions around 'race-mixing',Nephilim and shit.
Penny Dreadful had a way better portrayal of the Devil. He seemed legitimately ancient and powerful in that show and was actually kinda terrifying.
So did Chilling adventures of sabrina
Loved Penny Dreadful, scary smart stuff. Salem was entertaining, but in a soap opera kind of way. Made me feel a little cheap 😆.

NO IT WASNT IT WAS GENIUS
I love this show it really was amazing
How many times she cried for her son. It's her son. What else should she do.

Salem is a fictional supernatural drama. Comparing it to the real place and actual events is like comparing Finding Nemo to a documentary about fish.
