      Yes there's a coca cola addiction problem in Mexico. In no small part because the municipal water supply does little to assure water safe for drinking. But honestly I can't see that even with all the cola consumed, it's not likely to account for water famine. More likely water is wasted by people hiding their driveway and washing their car every day. Along with the rich filling their swimming pools .

      @@samshepperrd much in the same way you have doubts over soda consumption being a problem, I also have doubts that there are that many rich people that their swimming pools are really accounting for much more than a drop in the bucket.

    I've learned in an environmental class in college that Mexico City has been draining their aquifers (ground water) faster than they have been able to regenerate themselves for years. This in turn has caused the land to sink, compromising the foundation of many of their buildings.

    This is an infrastructure/funding problem that many countries deal with. Many politicians dont pass the required legislation to mandate such changes, standards, and restructuring of their basic needs such as power & water. Look a Flint, Michigan and Texas during their last freeze. Mexico city is not the only city, state, or country in dire need of new infrastructures. However they are in the unique position to look at their history books because that city was founded upon the ingenious engineering of the indigenous people. They literally build a floating city unlike anything else on the continent. They should see it as a challenge to do better.

    • @jacqueslee2592

      This is true, but through centuries all of this history has been erased by European colonizers and now US. US literally erased the history of the natives in the US mainland. US media has brainwashed ideologically Mexicans to be ignorant of their own history and and to be complicit in their self-genocidal and self-deprecation way of thinking. There are also a lot of European descendant Mexicans and pro-US politicians who are sabotaging Mexico and government to prevent any development in Mexico. There are many factors contributing to this.

      It is the Mayans and possibly the Olmecs who met their demise due to environmental changes. The Aztecs were thriving and had a larger city than any in Europe on the ground that now holds Mexico City, when Hernan Cortes came over with his conquistadors from Spain.

    • @samshepperrd
      @samshepperrd 7 місяців тому +2

      @@theonlycaulfield I'm not suggesting climate change. It was human activity on the local level. The Aztecs as well as Maya before them thrived so well they spread out and laid waste to the land. And their food source, corn, is low on complete protein. So a lot of land had to be brought under cultivation. The conquistadores had an easy time conquering the Aztecs because all their neighbors hated them and joined in dethroning them. Most great civilizations develop along rivers, not lakes. Because rivers seldom run out of water, like a lake or reservoir or even acquafer can.

      @@samshepperrd What I am getting at is that the Aztecs did not fail due to expanding beyond the environments ability to sustain them. From the little we know the Aztecs seem to have employed a system of crop rotation and let the land lie fallow at times so as not to deplete the soil. Due to this, they were having no problem producing food including not just maize, but also beans and squash. Yes, non-Aztec natives helped Hernan Cortes overthrow the Aztecs, but this is entirely beside the point of the Aztec's use of the environment, which they remarkably did not overstretch.

Theres even ways to get rid of salt in ocean water even tho is expensive. Its simple can companies keep their chemicals out of it and can we plant more trees so their roots and leaves can clean ground water and encourage rain fall. There is no such thing as "run out" more like controlled and allowed and not allowed to distribute.
