Lovely allotments. So beautiful what you've done with raised beds francesca. Plant's will recover after heavy rain 🌧 thanks for sharing your video update 😀
@Diary of a Yorkshire Gardener Absolutely with netting, but these things happen at the best of times due to weather conditions. Very proud 👏 of what you've started to achieve on your allotment. Happy Thursday francesca nearly Friday 😀
I did consider that but wasn’t sure how it would work with spuds? They need to be planted fairly deep and trenched up, would you do it on top of the cardboard or below and let them grow through? I’m so new to growing them in the ground!
I definitely think that’s what I’m going to do long term! ☺️ I’m just so stumped on which pipes to get, size etc and where from! I’d like them to be black like the netting i think
@@diaryofayorkshiregardener black water pipe 20 or 25mm from Screwfix or Toolstation ,last for years .25 MTR roll cut into 2 MTR lengths .3 per bed and a cane along the top 🙂
Oh nooo! Your poor seedlings 😩 I had a wobble yesterday as our toddler ran on my onions at home and crushed a load 😂 been in since November and starting to bulb up! Was not impressed ha x
I think the UK is 90% clay soil :). that's why raised beds are the best solution. your next enemy is Slugs & Snails you'll have to find ways to protect your little babies from them
Absolutely! I’d never really come across clay soil myself till my allotment. It literally pools the second it rains! I need to figure out some kind of way to help it drain. I don’t know if making some deep holes with spikes will help? The next task is digging and turning over the top bit of the plot, maybe putting some manure down and hopefully break it up a bit
Praying for better weather for you and that it won't be too long and everything will be growing marvellously for you
Thank you so much ☺️🤞🏼🌱

Awww thank you Michael! ☺️ going to check on them today I think, make sure the netting is still in tact 😂

Also you could cover your potato patch with cardboard then top with fresh compost for no dig potatoes 🙂

Great looking. Consider a hoop house so the netting doesn't blow away or detach.

I feel your pain... slugs have done a right number on my brassica and the foxes have squashed my kohl rabi

I use water pipe for making hoops for my nets on my brassicas...and plastic anti slug rings which work so well 🙂
Definitely doing the pipe hoops eventually! Still need to buy some. The ones I did in this video are very short term ha!
Weather can be a challenge 😳.
It really can! More so for you I expect ha!
Its always hard when the slugs destroy your hard work
Absolutely!! I’m not sure if it was slugs or birds, probably both 😩
Looks lovely so far! I’ve been having some slow starts but things are coming along now. I hope you get the good weather soon.
Thank you! It’s been such an odd spring so far!
What wood did you use for your raised beds? Is it decking boards?
I think it is yes! I can’t remember the proper name, sorry!
