      If you use the bones to make stock, they’ll squish between your fingers.
      Soak them in the crockpot with cold water to cover and 2T. acv. After an hour, turn on the crockpot and make your stock for 24 hours. The bones should be perfect for Bokashi.

    I've been doing Bokashi now for 2 years. I have two Bokashi bins - while the one is fermenting I start the other. Have made some fantastic compost for the garden - now starting with my proper outdoor composting system for a veggie garden & will add my completed Bokashi mix directly to those. The liquid you tap off can either be used as a great fertilizer (note it has to be seriously diluted as it is very powerful and can burn plants if used neat). It can also be poured neat down drains to clean them out and disinfect them with all the "good" germs.

      Question,
      If I have a septic tank and pour the liquid down the drain, do you think there would be any effect on the septic system, good or bad? Thanks for any help or info you can give me 😊

    • @SA-wb1jb
      @SA-wb1jb 4 роки тому +2

      @@cindylacy - I would think you could. It's a purely organic byproduct of Bokashi so can't see it harming septic tanks at all. If anything, it would help to aid the digestion of harmful organisms in the septic tank. But this a layman's advice - I would advise you contact the Bokashi resellers in your area and put the question to them.

    This stuff disintegrates corn husks. It's really remarkable stuff. Also great for any area where your cat or dog have marked their territory. Sprinkle it over the area and smell is gone in a couple of days.

    Thank you for another great video.
    I will say that I might consider doing a DIY Bokashi method. The bucket alone is $38. Home Depot sells buckets for $5 and $3 for the lid. The bran is $50 for 5 lbs. Then all the other supplies are more $$ and time. To me, that is a waste of money AND time. I might consider using the EM1 liquid.
    I HIGHLY recommend a worm bin of red wigglers. I paid $24 for a lb of them last year and now have two bins of them. They are great. They can eat a lot! I have a 7 gallon bin for my small apartment. There's a man on UA-cam who has shown that worms CAN breakdown onions,, lemons,, etc.. I smash my bones after making bone broth, and dry them. I then place bone meal in my garden.
    My biggest waste is plastic from the Trader Joe's packaging. I'm looking into mushrooms that can can break down plastic.

    I love this, especially being able to use the liquid in the garden every week. But buying two buckets with spigots, the bran and the EM is expensive. Is there a cheaper way? Beer bottling buckets seem to be cheaper. Can you make the bran and Em?
    Thanks, love your videos

    • @NaturesAlwaysRight

      Any HDPE or LDPE bucket will work, like the ones from home depot. I don't use a tap on mine personally, but they are cheap on amazon. If I only needed a small amount of bran each year I'd just buy 5lbs a year. The bran is already inoculated and you can buy it on my website here, naturesalwaysright.com/products/bierkashi-bokashi-5-to-50-lbs. But if you want a ton of bokashi and super cheap find a beer brewer who throws away their grain, contract with them they'll give it for free. Then buy our bokashi inoculum and you can make your own, naturesalwaysright.com/products/brewkashi-microbial-inoculum-lactic-acid-bacteria-lactobacillus-casei The powdered form we sell is even less expensive if you want to do scale.

    I look forward to starting bokashi composting. I have 4 rain barrels that I use to water the garden, and I'm wondering if I could add the bokashi juice to the barrels to kill may possible algae or pathogens. I often find racoon feces in the gutters. Also, my soil pH is usually on the high end. I'd like to lower that a bit.
    BTW, I grew up in Ramona, and love that town.

    their more than only Lactic bacterias and phototrophic bacterias their is yeasts to in EM-1 plus your own indigenous microbes (IMO) when you're doing bokashi .
    Chris Trump it's a great reference for EM"s
    Caution the quality of your bokashi vary depending the level of carbohydrates (more carbohydrates == better bokashi) when meat is applied it's particularly important to ferment fast !

    Do you think you could use Kombucha as a catalyst for Bokashi? I brew a lot of Kombucha and it uses anaerobic bacteria.

    • @NaturesAlwaysRight
      @NaturesAlwaysRight  5 років тому +2

      Great question! It can be let turn to kombucha vinegar and used like BRV in the garden or for pest management. It will help things break down but the PH is too low for Lacto bacteria to survive which is the main strain of bacteria present in bokashi responsible for breaking down everything. I don't think it would work very well as a bokashi substitute, but give it a try and let me know!

    Hi Steven, Do you know if you can keep the bokashi buckets sealed for longer than 2-4weeks? I am asking because I don't have a lot of space for my compost pile (I live in a residential area) and my pile is about done. I don't any space to create another one until I have been through this one first. Would you recommend keeping the bokashi buckets sealed until I have space for a new pile or would you add it directly into the existing one?

So my composting is pretty minimal. So im guessing maybe 5 lbs of compost a week. Lol but I'm the worst about not following through with composting because it gets so overwhelming with the smell. Lol great video.

    when would you choose to feed your worms over bokashi? and vice versa? kitchen scraps w/ bokashi sounds great to bring hot compost piles above 150. can you give kitchen scraps w/ bokashi to worms too, or is that a waste?

    • @NaturesAlwaysRight

      I just feed my worms when they need it then and save the rest for bokashi. Scraps with the bokashi grain is good. But I only add the bokashi grain when I rebuild my worm bins. Check out my worm food video I recently put out to see how I do it.

    Can one add the bokashi bran directly onto a worm bin?

  • @ShawneeSue
    @ShawneeSue 4 роки тому

    I ordered some of the bran. I was thinking of using a 5-gallon Coleman jug that I got at a yard sale, since it has a spout at the bottom. Would that work well?

    • @NaturesAlwaysRight
      @NaturesAlwaysRight  4 роки тому +1

      Ya that would work perfect! Just needs to be air tight.

    It's already more than 3 weeks since i start bokashi. In my bucket, there's no bokashi tea comes out like, at all. Is that normal? Or something is wrong with my pile? 🤔

    • @Lee_Kay_
      @Lee_Kay_ 3 роки тому +1

      No bokashi tea is completely normal. The point is the smell, should be vinegary. And the volume of bokashi will be smaller as time goes by.(please forgive my English)

    • @alanavanwoodsen
      @alanavanwoodsen 3 роки тому +1

      @@Lee_Kay_ my 1st bucket is already full, I'm going to leave it for 2-3 weeks before burying the content in a different container w soil. Wish me luck! Now I'm filling my 2nd bucket.
      Oh btw, the smell is sour, yes. And the white spores are growing beautifully. I think it's work even still no tea up till now.

    If the Bokashi is too acidic for the worms, is it not too acidic for the plants too? Should we add lime? Will the eggshell neutralise the acidity?

      The final bucket I showed is essentially a finished bin. Sometimes a lot of white fuzz will develop on top. You don't want to see other color molds.

    Thank you for the post. Question: Isn't there a risk of rodents etc in the first couple of weeks? I've been told to mix the bokashi into weak soil in a container and keep a net on top of it for the first 2-3 weeks. Maybe this is more important close to cities, but I wouldn't want rats in my garden.
