What an AB against the best closer this year! Out of all the players the Astros didn’t re-sign, Tucker is the one they shouldn’t let get away. He is a definition of an elite 5 tool player who is always healthy.
He doesn’t become a free agent until after 2025 season so there’s plenty of time. Basically have 2 more off seasons to extend him before he’s on the open market.
As an Orioles fan, it's like we never left September 24 of last year at all. Bautista holds a 3-run lead only to blow it thanks to Kyle Tucker getting the game-winning hit with the bases loaded.
With a batter as fundamentally sound as Kyle Tucker, even if Bautista is tossing 103 mph, throw enough of them, and eventually Tucker will connect on one.
I have a theory about Tucker and the batting gloves this season. Tuck used to be no gloves and he would basically stop in between every pitch to rub dirt on his hands for grip and I guess as a way to take a breath and get ready for the next one. He would sometimes put on gloves when he was in a slump just to see if he could change his luck, etc, but would always return to no gloves. With the pitch clock, I think it was causing him to rush to get ready for the next pitch in order to still keep his dirt routine. I don't know exactly when he switched, but after some early struggles this year he really started to turn it on in June/July and I think it's related to putting the gloves on permanently so he can stay in the box. To be clear, have no actual confirmation this is the case, but this is the longest I can ever recall him wearing gloves.
Before the pitch clock he had the same routine. Rub his hands in the dirt, rub his face on his sleeve, adjust his helmet, then adjust his belt. Every single time.
Kyle Tucker is one of the most clutch players in MLB You have your top tier super stars and you have your second tier stars and kyle Tucker is one of the guys that the moment is never too big for him the bigger the game the bigger he performs.. He's just a irreplaceable teammate the kind of teammate who is a get compliment to your( superstars Altuve ,Alvarez, Pena) Glue guys are ( Tucker, McCormick, Diaz, Bregman) are the heart of the team without them they would not be in this position. Superstars set the tone of the game but glue guys determine the outcome most of the time
Everyone drools over Tucker's Grand Slam and just ignore what the previous guys did to load the bases against that same top tier closer. This a full team.
The thing that frustrates me the most about this game is despite Tucker fouling off fastball after fastball, Bautista kept throwing them. It was a 2-2 count and in my opinion he should've thrown a splitter after the 2nd fastball. Tucker was on his fastball the whole ab and the grandslam didn't surprise me at all. It is a repeat of what happened with Bryan Baker not to long ago.
My thought is he lost confidence in his splitter after the one he threw 40 feet into the ground. Once a batter knows that and can eliminate the thought of another splitter, he can just focus on the fastball. Plus, Bautista was probably getting tired, throwing more pitches than he's used to throwing, making his command a little less accurate.
The real mistake was catching way too much of the plate.. The plan was obviously keep him in the park by staying away.. Probably works too, if Bautista executes.. Credit to Tucker, though, for spoiling enough pitches to see a mistake, and he pounced.. Great AB..

One of my favorite documentaries on Ted Williams is the one from 2018 on PBS. They had someone play Ted (you don't see his face) for really great-looking dramatic reenactment shots... I just read that it was actually Kyle Tucker right before he came up to the bigs. Similar build, powerful, lefty swing.
Astros just keep hanging in the race despite an Allstar team on the IR most of the season. Tucker has been so steady. I cant believe they pitched to Yordon and Tucker. Poor O's management.

The faster it’s coming in, the the more it compresses when struck squarely, and therefore it rebounds increasing the outgoing velocity. For every action, there’s an equal and opposite reaction perhaps?
As an O's fan.. that loss was gut wrenching! We should have got 2 outta 3 in that series. But.. we atleast got 1 outta 3 and still haven't been swept yet this season. Plus.. I'd rather have this type of stuff happen now, rather than in the playoffs. Houston showed why they're the Champs and I truly don't think we're there quite yet..
Everything went the Astros way in the 9th inning. I mean everything. There were SO many factors where that grand slam should not have occured but everything lined up for Tucker there. First, Bautista should not have walked the lead-off batter. Unacceptable. Then an Altuve dunk hit just over Gunnar. A ball to the wall from Alvarez that any other centerfielder on our team except Mateo probably would have caught. Bases loaded. And then Tucker basically strikes out but the most minute foul tip slips out of McCann's glove. It was a perfect storm of EVERYTHING going against the Orioles and the Astros just getting very fortunate to get to Felix. It's baseball, it happens sometimes. The Mountain is strong.
That pitch would have caught wind from almost any and every other batter. Not a bad pitch at all it was just Tuckers night. Not taking away from Tucker though if it’s anybody you’d want at the plate for the Astros in this situation it’s him all day. That swing is is just smooth

I think the Astros fucked up by not giving him a contract extension. I always believe he was gonna be a super star when Jeff lunhow didn't want to trade him and let George springer go after winning the world series. This man is the real deal. We knew he was going to be a star but not a super star.
