  • Phalaenopsis orchids will either rebloom on a yearly cycle or will spike twice a year within months of each other. So if your orchid isn't reblooming, just give it time.
    With the production of new Phalaenopsis hybrids in nurseries, at least one species of Phalaenopsis orchids will be in bloom during any specific time of the year, usually during spring or late fall. If you want the full explanation of this video in writing, go to orchideria.com/when-do-phalae...

    Happy Cultivating!

    Wow thank you for this information. It was very helpful. I bought my first orchid in a long time in September. Since then, I bought several different ones. I love them all. I can’t wait until they bloom again!

    Another great video. I am feeling very fortunate. The first 3 orchids that I purchased in March and April produced lots of air roots and new leaves. They are now beginning to produce flower spikes.

    Good info as always. Im having an issue with the first bud of the flower spike die. This happens even before the rest of the blooms start opening. 2 of the 10 orchids I have are doing this. All plants are treated the same, not moved, same everything. Where can i send photos to show you.

    Not many people can provide a separate room with an individual heating arrangement for their orchids. Most people in the northern USA have central heating that is not electric and do not have rooms that have their own thermostats. If people have to provide that kind of temperature change for their orchids to bloom most can just forget it.
    We have a spare bedroom where I put the Christmas cactus so it can have more darkness in order to bloom but the temperature is the same in just about every room. It works for that plant. I sure am not providing a green house for orchids to bloom. My African Violets bloom just fine under these conditions.

    I used to have them on window that was very narrow and high with a huge thick wall. In winter it was around 19 degrees. In summer it was 30. It was eastern window. I had such beautiful flowers! Now i moved to a place with a fire place and still eastern window but its much further from it. In winter its around 26 at night maybe 23. In summer there is a climatisation. So its around 24. Even at night. Now I have no more flowers. I thought to move them in winter to another room but its quite dark there. Thank you for your video!

    My young phal is just sending out leaves and roots - nice healthy green leaves (seven so far), and shiny roots!! No spikes - yet!! Our night temperatures are just beginning to lower, so I have a little hope. Our weather was quite wonky this year, with a drought in the middle of the hurricane season, and the rainy season. The rains are a month late. I am praying for a spike ... or two ...

      @Orchideria  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Lyn! Thank you for watching! 😊 7 roots - wow! With the weather changes it's hard to know what the orchid will do. Maybe when the rains finally get there, that will be enough to get the orchid on the right track. Fingers crossed for 2 spikes.

    So if I purchase blooming plants in different months will they eventually sync up to all bloom at the same time in your home? Or will they individually keep blooming the same month every year? I would love to have some blooming every month but I don’t need 50 orchids all blooming in March for me:)

    North window and forget them. Just water as needed. My orchids love my north windows. They grow and rebloom there. (Portland Oregon). Note, the house is kept to 55°f at night and whatever the day temp is. The hallways are unheated otherwise. The landlord and i only heat the rooms we are in.

    I bought my first phalaenopsis last July and until now continue blooming, new spikes continue growing at the end of the old spike. My other phalaenopsis has the third spike now and a new leaf growing at the same time. I only got 3 phalaenopsis in different colours.

      Hi Argene, Sometimes orchids will do that and stay in bloom for extremely long time. This isn't the norm, so just be blessed and enjoy! That's just means its loving your climate and growing conditions.

    Hi Amanda I have a problem with one ice orchid. The bottom roots brown and if left think rot. The air roots are lovely and leafs are green and shiny and growing a new stem growing to flower. I'm feeding every week and other 6 plants fine. What should do take brown roots out for hopefully grow new bottom roots?

    • @Orchideria
      @Orchideria  2 роки тому

      Hi Lee, If your orchid is flowering, then leave it alone for now. Once all the blooms are gone, then repot it. If you repot it now, you'll risk losing the flower spike.

    i gave up. it's been over 3 years already. i wasted too much money on pleasing orchids. from special medium to fancy fertilizer sprays to special pots. i'm done. threw all 3 orchids in my vitamix blender and blended them to a pulp with water and used it to water my geraniums and african violets that flower year long every year.
