Thousands of protesters flood the streets of Niger’s capital Niamey to demand the departure of United States troops after the military government further shifted its strategy by ending a military accord with the US and welcoming Russian military instructors. Protesters demanded that the 1,000 American troops leave the country as they occupy two bases in the Niger. These protests come after France was also forced to withdraw its troops from Niger after a military coup last year. Niger’s military junta has now allowed Russia to send its officers and weapons including anti-aircraft systems. This comes after President Vladimir Putin promised to support Niger at the Russia-Africa summit in Moscow last year.

I am a Jamaican and when I read what Russia have done for my people in Africa I am always on Russia side. The War in Eukraine, I am always praying for Russia.

The nations of Africa should certainly do that. Russia is arriving to assist the Africans in kicking out the oppressive imperialist powers but is not there to become the new imperialist oppressor. They are there to support African liberation as African nations join in an economic and security alliance with the Russia-China-Iran alliance. This growing alliance will have no need to trade with US and western Europe, and will, economically speaking, bury the USA (another prophecy fulfilled, you might say).

Niger sustained that the content of the agreements is not acceptable at all! It was unilaterally drafted by the US and imposed upon them and signed by their then pm Bazoum who became President and was deposed by the current military government.
