Ghost Pepper scaling with luck turned out insane for me. 10 luck and soy milk is like an all-melting flamethrower across half the room. And since it's spectral, nothing can stop you. Most fun run I had in ages.

The Aquarius buff is incredible. If you have homing tears, it slides towards enemies. If you have poison tears, it poisons. Anything your tears do, it does. I don’t know how it works with things like Fire Mind and Sinus Infection.
Fire mind makes an orange trail that burns enemies but i believe it doesnt make explosions

One of my favorite little buffs is Rosary, it's kinda like the Angel version of Ceremonial Robes now, 3 soul hearts with a dps upgrade
Also Aquarius is actually insane now with some tear effects, with mom's contacts it basically perma freezes enemies

49:40 "in the direction you are moving" doesn't mean the next room down. If you notice, the room you teleported to was still 2 rooms below the one you left from, it just also happened to be 4 rooms to the left. The next time you teleported while moving up, you were teleported 1 room up and 1 room to the left. You were still teleported to a room above the one you were in, just not directly above. It could move you any number of spaces in a direction perpendicular to the one you are moving in.

So you could have walked one room to the left and then teleported to the right for a 1/3 chance to go to the curse room
What about when he tried to enter to the curse room but got teleported to the room directly above?

@@TheVichugo02 it’s only an Influence not a guarantee . There’s a static chance that the game will actually take your direction and use it for the teleport

A thing that wasnt mentioned: Locust of War flies now work with bomb upgrades, which makes it extremely stupidly good with for example sad or brimstone bombs
But could kill you with the bomberman bombs (dont know their name tho)

So now serpents kiss is just another item that sometimes posins enemies, I really don't think that this was a good nerf due to the fact that it just makes serpents kiss the same as other items, I think a better nerf would have been to reduce the chance of a serpents kiss tear bring fired and to have it only drop half black hearts instead of full ones.
Yeah not a fan of the Serpent's Kiss nerf. It might as well be common cold2 at this point since the black heart drops was the only thing that really set it apart from common cold. If they wanted to nerf it, they should have just reduced the odds of it dropping black hearts, but not remove it entirely.
@@FirstLast-mn4re They didn't "remove it entirely". The contact poison still grants black hearts - how both you and Olexa missed that part of the patch notes, I have no clue.
@@alexanderkosten7611 unless they changed it in one of the recent bug fix updates, it does not give you black hearts anymore. I've definitely tried in game and have not seen The Virus produce a single black heart for me since updating to Repentance. Next time I see the item I'll try again and see if it was reverted I'll even update my comment if It was, but as far as I have seen and tried it no longer spawns black hearts.
Edit: Serpents kiss does seem to generate black hearts, I got it on a recent run and was able to boop a host and get one. but only from contact damage (which it did pre Repentance as well).
@@FirstLast-mn4re The notes read, and I quote, "-Serpent's Kiss no longer generates black hearts from the poison tears (the contact effect still can).". I can only guess as to the discrepancy between your experiences and the patch notes, as I haven't gotten it on my own runs for a while. The notes were written up before some last-minute change, the odds were changed, something is bugged, the precise mechanics of the item were altered... whatever the cause is, you should probably go yell at Edmund or Kilburn about it.

Dark bum is actually still incredibly powerful, the black heart drop rate is about 50% or so and some cards are dang good

Also Brown Nugget is completely broken for dogma and The Beast. For Dogma you can place as many flies as you want before the fight even starts (as it takes place in the same room after activating the boss fight), and for the beast its such a long fight all the flies do tons of damage overall

the way youre supposed to use Strange Attractor now is to fire past the enemies, and if you have good range it will just completely drag enemies away, especially with Soy Milk (i had a pretty crazy run)

So 2 things for Olexa, 1 note on alt characters (no spoilers) 2 delirium note/tip.
1. Fairly soon you should make a realization about unlocking the alt characters (I think at least), and it will seem like it would take hundreds of hours. There is a more consistent way (it's actually very fast), but what you need to do is incredibly arbitrary and only a handful of items even give you a chance to accidentally stumble upon it. So at that point you might want a vague hint as a starting point at least.
2. *[Tl;dr push damage while delirium is in its true form]* You said delirium has no damage reduction (dr) but this isn't quite true. (Note that all enemies have dr but most are set to 0, the bosses with dr have different levels) Delirium starts the fight in its true form with 0 dr. When it transforms its dr begins increasing linearly as long as it is transformed until it reaches a certain cap or reverts to its true form. Whenever it enters its true form its dr is set to 0, and when it transforms the process begins again. So basically go for as much damage as possible while it's in its true form (and right after it transforms). I personally love fighting both hush and delirium btw, Hush's design is better, but it has such predictable patterns that eventually, if you fight it enough, it doesn't feel like as much of a challenge (still very fun fight tho). That's why I love delirium, it always feels different while still having the same general best practices and such. I think it's super fun, but understand why people hate it.

If isaac’s heart now attempts to be in the opposite side of where you are shooting, then it might get a bit tricky with dunce cap

Something to note: I don’t think 27.5 is the hard tears limit for every item. I think what is happening is you’re hitting the soft limit of 5, which is multiplied by soy milk to 27.5.
I think the tear limit is something like 120. I had almond milk with kidney stone which put me some where in that range.
Just use kidney stones with soy milk. Like 89 tears Stat. Use that with rock bottom and isaac is a minigun for the rest of the run

I agree with many of the nerfs, but I feel making bomb modifiers luck based with Dr. and Epic Fetus was very unnecessary.
The best part of Isaac is the synergies, and this effectively reduces how often you will see bomb synergies. Regardless of balance, I think this change is just unfun.
Though when it comes to balance, I also don't quite get why it was necessary. Sure, bomb items make the fetuses more powerful, but they also make the bombs more risky for the player. It's much easier to get hit by your own bombs when it has a bigger blast, a cross blast, scatter bombs, etc.

I’ve had runs with both cursed eye and strange attractor today; it’s still hard to justify picking them up, they derailed two almost won runs.
Meanwhile, I won a run with almond milk + ipecac on floor 1, it was fun (and stressful).

Thanks for this Tyler. Dark Bum nerf is a bummer but thats fine. I had 2 runs today and found less than a handful of tinted rocks and when i did find they mostly gave me bombs.

Yo it’s the Olexa Patch Note Rundown!
Honestly, the nerf to maw of the voids damage doesn't bother me. But I'm really bothered at the amount of items that had temporary heart generation nerfs. I only used maw of the void, the virus, serpents kiss and such for the black heart generation. I wouldn't be bothered if I didn't have any major damage buff or anything, I just like the fact that it can help characters such as blue baby with generating HP easily.
I think The Virus nerf, especially, was unnecessary since the poison effect only had niche usefulness unless you have an invincibility active item. Most enemies deal contact damage which made its poison effect rarely useful as is, but it was kind of nice to be able to potentially get a black heart from bonking into a host. It used to be about as useful as Midas Touch, which is to say only good under specific circumstances, but now The Virus is pretty much useless outside of spun. The speed inc. is not enough compensation imo for getting rid of the one semi useful thing it could do.

I understand there's the potential of using it to farm using stuff like skatole and bursting sack, but considering it's pretty low odds you'll get them and by the time you get them they'll probably be pretty useless (unless you're going for something big like hush), basically everything else is contact. I'm fine trading half a heart using blind rage for some nice black hearts and I know that's still possible with serpents kiss but honestly the virus nerf felt completely unnecessary and made an insta-take item for me just another rerollable item.
Serpent's Kiss CAN still generate black hearts, but only from the contact poison. The patch notes even explicitly mention this, I have no idea why people keep missing it.

The way teleport probably works is more controllable but still random. If for example you move down then teleport will place you in a room below to you. This can be either the next room or at a very big distance but will be indeed "down" from the original room. A good way to interpret this is in the form of a graph where the current room is the centre (point 0), and the room directly below would be -y, above +y, left -x and right +x. If you teleport while moving down it can be at either -y or -y+x or -y-x therefore covering all the rooms below you in the floor (it won't always be directly "down" it can be "down right" or "down left" depending on RNG). If you try to teleport to the right then the graph values will be +x, +x+y or +x-y. However because this is issac there will always be a random chance to just teleport you to a completely random room.
Brimstone actually got buffed to it just doesn’t say how in the patch notes but certain synergies allow you to have infinite brimstone laser now

There is a new item for runes called clear rune
Which is essentially a blank card for runes
But it is a pain to use jera, cause the charge on the item will change to a 12 charge instead of the default 4 room charge
Which is good, because Jera breaking was way too guaranteed before. Now getting a jera is still good but it makes you think "how do I get the most value from this rune?" instead "cool I just got a free run.
Jera was a free run glad it got nerfed all the videos I watch of people beating bosses with the lost have been getting disliked from me because they always just get jera and win

The Maw of the Void + Serpent's Kiss nerfs utterly make them pointless - these were the points for picking up said items. Especially in the latter case. Athame doesn't need to drop black hearts so that's fine and Virus is basically returned to its original status as garbage so that's fine too.

Maybe Restock should have like a 25-33% chance of something's price increasing by one after you buy it, and everytime that does happen the chance gets a little higher.
21:15 I think the white pony buff is there so you actually consider picking it up instead of tossing it aside sine it can only appear by defeating Conquest and by that time you may just want to stick to you held active. it was alright but now they just made it a worthy consideration.
honestly the only change i think should be reverted just a bit should be Athame. it makes sense for maw of the void to lose its blackheart spawning ability, but with athame, taking damage to use it is still a risk. a nerf like lowering the blackheart spawning chance or even straight up adding half black hearts to spawn instead wouldve been more preferable.
The Isaac Heart buffs made The Guardian Challenge way easier.
Tiny planet seems interesting, as it changes the orbit of the tears already fired, it seems like you can shoot to the right to hit far right enemies but if they get close you can start shooting left and the tears fired will orbit back and hit the close right enemy

Aquarius + sacred heart is so overpowered. I got it yesterday and seriously a 12/10 synergy.
Also after you started firing with marked, you can stop again with the same button as it is for switching Cards (I play controler, i just know its R2 there)

I used to hate Dead Sea scrolls but now I’ve done some incredible Bethany runs with it, I think it and book of virtues are unbelievably good together.
Strat with tiny planet is fire a bunch of tears in one direction then press the opposite direction that the tears were shot in and they travel to the center of the orbit during the transition to shooting the opposite direction causing a cluster of tears making it easier to hit things in the center of the circle fuck around wit it lol
Today I was playing beth and bob’s rotten head + book of virtues legit carried the run
Technology 2 never killed your fire rate though, just your damage, they made it reduce your tears now which just makes it insane with Ipecac :D
You can activate/deactivate Notched Axe anytime you want and open secret room, so its basically infinite bombs and (boss-) damage if you know what your doing
Most op combos are guppys paw - converter and gimpy - dull Razor. Both are able to generate unlimited soul hearts
It said on the wiki that Godhead's aura have been changed to always deal 1.05 dmg per ticks, but I never saw anything else or patch note mentioning that, everyone has tested it?

On Tiny Planet you can make the orbits crash quite tightly and controllably by firing in the opposite direction
Try it on the challenge because it made it so much better when I worked that out
Given how there wasn't a distinct change into making the player more miserable with all these nerfs, I'm actually kinda glad for them. The old meta was getting a bit dull and now we have the excitement of discovering the new one!

I didn’t know shard of glass got changed and I just had red hearts and seeing my health somehow start draining was so freaking scary! I had to rush to find a soul heart. Crazy stuff
So do sad bombs and brimstone not synergize anymore? With the add of brimstone bombs I feel like they wouldn't but I also feel it would be stupid to remove the synergy but I haven't checked it yet
Re. Abel, I actually think it's okay now (I know, heresy), due to a change I don't think is listed in the patchnotes: Abel now always fires towards the player, so he's much less likely to miss.

I love the direction the game has gone with the changes. You can still get a lot of value out of soul/black hearts but there are a lot less free wins now.
I hope the Holy Mantle nerf doesn't apply to the Lost, 'cause I did the white fire thing in Downpour and got killed when a single drowned gaper tear blasted me from an awkward angle and before I could barely register the first hit I got hit with another tear from the same blast and I don't even think those tears stay for that long. I get it if it applies for the other characters, 'cause you're only in that state for a short time anyway, but dang, it's honestly barely enough time to react sometimes

Lil brim going to 20 damage per beam from 31.5 is pretty bad, it's definitely not a 2 heart deal worth taking in most cases in my opinion.

Influence the direction doesn’t mean teleport you to the exact room you’re walking towards, the majority of your teleports you still did teleport along the axis you were moving. Just not straight forward, and not to the adjacent room.

I think having Steam sale still stack but go down to 25% would have been a better nerf. It makes more sense than how it used to be (1/2 of 1/2 is 1/4, not 0) and it wouldn’t be broken because of the shop/restock changes.
I think a better way to handle full run rerolls would be to let you keep the transformation forever if you get it, but you can only get it if you have enough items for the transformation simultaneously.
I think my biggest problem is the timing of these nerfs more so than the severity. With hard carry items being nerfed with the game being at its most difficult state really pushed me to an annoying spot where if I had no real good Stat ups by roughly the equivalent of C1 or C2 I just give up. It doesn't feel as worth it since I'm much less likely to grab something that can really pull me back. I understand a lot of them as well, especially with some breaks just being inherently way less common now. Ed himself stated that 3 item game breaks could/would be monitored. If they just made chaos a secret room/item room pool item and gave us a drastically reduced rr machine I think it would of been fine.

I mean, it helps that you're an ascended God isaac player but I completely understand. To also extend on to that original point those runs where you truly just get nothing that really carries you are few and far between, so I suppose it isn't entirely fair to judge it based on that. I just need to git gud especially with Jacob + Esau
I just think repentance is meant for you to spend more time improving your run. Min maxing. Doing everything you can. You can still get good stuff you just gotta work for it. All rep did for difficulty is cut out the ability to just play without a brain
Some people like that though. One thing that really stuck with me that Ed said was that Isaac was not meant for everyone. I suppose it's just an accessibility problem where if I wanted to get someone else into the game who I think would genuinely enjoy it. The bar of entry feels much much higher than ever for the game. A lot less safety nets for people who would otherwise want them. I suppose the selling point of Isaac for me was mainly the breakability of the game and how maliable the mechanics were. They were never something I would do every single run, I also knew many people who'd reject many tier 1 items just to have more unique and fun items/synergies.
I think the level of entry is slightly harder but also most of the new content is locked behind many hours of gameplay. Rep is a dlc for the people that have “finished” Isaac. So while I agree the level of entry is harder I think that was also their point with it. I will say though that the game can still be extremely busted. Even just in the short amount of time I’ve been playing I’ve several completely broken runs because that’s just the nature of Isaac. You aren’t gonna have the easy breaks anymore, the restock steam sales, blank card jeras... but those were boring to begin with. And if people want to use them then they just uninstall the dlc.
I'm completely fine with most nerfs, there were a lot of completely busted items in AB+, ones you picked up and cruised through the game without any difficulty, so the nerfs are understandable. Some of them seem a little overkill, like black heart bombing was obviously too broken, but it could have been nerfed rather than removed. For example, they could've added half black hearts as consumables tied to "Everything Is Terrible", with a chance for a black heart to be full or half, especially with the Nail giving half of a black heart, and make Maw of the Void, Athame, etc. have a very small chance to drop half black hearts. The rate should be really small, like 1% or something, so bombing and other game breaking would be impossible, but it would occasionally still save your life. Some other nerfs were just weird, like 20/20 being the only shot modifier that reduces your damage stat instead of tears is just stupid. There are dozens of items and effects that scale only with your damage, not overall DPS, like flies, spiders, locusts, poison, burning, Magic Fingers, Straw, and so on. Every damage downgrade is actually impacting those ways of attacking, so it's kinda not that good anymore. If it decreased your tears rate by 25%, I would be completely fine with it. All other multiple shot items like Inner Eye or Mutant Spider do exactly that: don't affect your damage, but decrease fire rate. Damage down is just weird. Welp, at least it's not as bad as thin Odd Mushroom, which reduces your damage but can give you no tears up depending on your stats. That's straight up BS, if you have soft cap fire rate and pick it up, it's just damage down, nothing else. I wish it gave just a small tears up and speed up or something, but no damage down. Or at least make it a flat tear delay down, going past the soft cap, to at least make it useful more often. Those kinds of weird nerfs upset me a little bit, but that's pretty much all I have to complain about. Other stuff is completely fair, like fixing double Demon Judgement cheesing and other game breaks. That just makes the game more fun, there's no fun in cheating (forsenCD). The fact that people are butthurt about that stuff being fixed is just silly, it's definitely for the best. I mean, come on, Dank Bum is still pretty good, he's just not gonna single-handedly win you the run. He's still pretty much gonna carry you if you find a lot of red hearts you have no use for. "Nerfed" doesn't mean "bad", it usually means it was too busted for your own good, like you find an item and go "OOOOH WON RUN BABY". This is still pretty much the case with a lot of strong items, like Brimstone or Mom's Knife is still gonna carry you, but not as hard as previously. Plus, a lot of small changes like synergies are an indirect buff to those items, like just the fact that Brimstone now synergizes with Soy Milk, Tiny Planet, Parasite, and so on, is a huge buff, sometimes to the damage and overall greatness of the item, and sometimes to zane. It's very unfortunate that some synergies with those items still don't work, like Mom's Knife + Tech 0 doesn't connect the knives, which is lame, so the busted items can still lower the coolness factor of your tear effects, but admittedly it's improved a lot. Like, even Mom's Knife + Tiny Planet got buffed, I'm not gonna spoil it for you if you haven't seen it yet, but it's pretty sweet now, like actually viable, instead of a ruined run like it was in AB+. There's definitely more zane and fairness in the game now, so the minor complaints I have are pretty insignificant in the whole scheme of things. Plus, they're still gonna make some balancing patches, they wanted to rework Delirium and stuff, so who knows what they could improve?
First a nerf does obviosly make items worse.Second highering the skill cap is a very bad idee to how much new player are gonna play repentence.3 dark bum was never able to solo carry a run 4 exploiting is always the most fun. 5 having an op run is also allot of fun.Smashing hard bosses in seconds is just cool 6
How are we now supposed to get the "you broke it"archiechment 7 coop is luckely completly brooken so you can have the most fun with friends while getting as much items as you want.
@@LuigisLegend 1. I don't think "less OP" is necessarily "worse", quite on the contrary, some items were so broken in AB+ I stopped taking them after a while because it would just be guaranteed GG. Now they're more interesting.
2. I think the skill cap is pretty much unachievable for a new player anyways, it's that "easy to learn, fucking impossible to master" rule (or something along those lines) where the game starts out relatively easy (normal mode, vanilla floors, only to Mom's foot, most stuff is locked, including harder bosses and shit) and keeps growing more and morre difficult as you progress and therefore get better, there literally is a character that's one hit away from death for Christ's sake (until you unlock the item that makes him two hits away from death). For me, the addition of the more difficult stuff is welcome, even though I struggle with it for now. Isaac has initially been a tough game, and just got easier with later additions and DLCs and whatnot.
3. Dank Bum was so disgustingly overpowered, he was great even after they nerfed the payout rate and made him create spiders. He gave you at least a few soul hearts per floor if things went right. Obviously, with literally only Dank Bum you stood no chance against late game stuff, I mean like if you got regular item room and boss payouts, nothing spectacular, and Dank Bum, he would carry you defensively through most of the tough rooms/bosses. He still can now, but you need to get a little bit lucky.
4 / 5. "Exploiting is the most fun" - heavily disagree on that one. If you break the game and have all the items, you're pretty much gonna achieve the same result every time. Where's the fun in that? I like to at least see fear in the enemy's eyes before they die. I mean, don't get me wrong, becoming busted is pretty fun in the "MWA HA HA I AM BECOME DEATH DESTROYER OF WORLDS" kind of sense, but is it fun long term? Not really. When you wipe every enemy immediately upon entering the room, it gets really boring after a while, you start getting tired of it, and there's still like 15 minutes of it until the end, it becomes more of a slog. The actual fun is being strong enough to be safe, but having to actually apply some skill, use your reflexes and your noggin to get the best possible lemonade out of whatever lemons the game gave to you. Does that make any sense?
6. IDK, take two Jeras to the Chest or take the R key lategame, or something. It must be possible in a bunch of ways, you gotta use some strategy for that, and I personally love it.
7. Coop is bugged, it should only give you 2 to 4 items, depending on how many people are playing. Devs are gonna fix it, if they haven't already.
The changes to strange attractor make it so enemys attract to tears further away from you.
i absolutely hate nerfs in single player games (unless the item is legit broken to the point that it ruins a game)

Has anyone experienced what I think is a bug where tears suddenly fire in a slow burst pattern but after you pick up an item it returns to normal? It doesn't even have to be a tears or shot speed up
It mainly happened when I was playing eve and picked up a certain amount of items

My first run on repentance was dr fetus / soymilk / strange attractor and it demolished everything
