Believe it or not, Don's manager called Home Free to do this collaboration. It was for the 50th Anniversary of Don's song. They all won multiple telly awards for this video and Home Free got to sing a little bit of it when Don received his star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.
This was done during COVID, I think Don, Tim and Austin were the only ones in the studio. The other guys taped their version from home and sent it to the studio. They put a lot of music out during the pandemic, a song every other week and again they did their portions at home. They are an amazing group, just FYI Don contacted them to do this 50th anniversary song. Will be subbing for more Home Free. One of my favorites is their cover of the Doobie Brothers song "Listen To The Music". See ya on your next reaction!!
Love this remake of this classic song. Can't believe it came out 50 years ago. Don McLean still has a good voice for his age. And love hearing all the guys take a turn in a verse. Poor Adam had to do such a long stretch of beatboxing but he nailed it. Think the song is about 8 min. long. Don McLean received his Hollywood Star on the Walk of Fame recently & Home Free was invited to sing a portion of this song there. What an honor for them. "American Pie" pays tribute to the loss of 3 legends who died so young (Buddy Holly, Richie Valens & The Big Bopper). A lot of references in the song are made to many artists from the early days of music including Elvis, Janis Joplin, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Byrds & others.

I've always loved Don McLean's classic. Back when it was released a local radio stn would, on request, send a breakdown of the meaning of each line (I wish I'd kept it). I’m so glad you reviewed this. I love it when someone who respects this song does the HomeFree version. Back in the 70’s I worked all Summer and this album was one of the things I did with the $ was buy this album. 🎶🥰
The HF guys were really excited - aside from being able to collab w/ Don(!!) - that there were enough verses for each of the 4 to have their own full verse.
