Hey Austin. Great progress. The tail surfaces look really nice hanging on the wall. THAT'S art! I notice they're hanging by paracord? It's strong (500lb-ish) but there's only two points of contact on each tail surface. Means it'll only take one point of failure for the surface to swing down. Unlikely, but possible. Consider a minimum three points of contact, four for your horizontal stab and elevator. I know it's selfish, but it would make ME feel better!
Thank you! And ohhhhh yeah I feel you. I never like the looks of it when I’m in there. Makes me cringe when I’m taking them down or putting them back up. I think you’re right. I’ll add some more backup tethers just in case
Hi Austin. I notice you're using the swivel head rivet set with the red cover. Did you trim that cover down a bit? I'm just starting my -14A build and use a rivet set called a Boeing design with a polyurethane rim. It dances around a little more than I'd like so I'm thinking of moving to the rivet set you're using.
Hello! Great question. Yes I did. I initially really did not like it due to the rubber being too thick, but after sanding it down a bit I have really learned to like it. It doesn’t move around and is forgiving with rivet gun placement. And to prevent skin scuff marks, I have a strip of 3M rivet tape on the metal head. It lasts for a good 50 rivets or so before needing replacing
@@bertschb any time! And I don’t remember how much I removed, but remember sanding some off, trying it, and sanding more off again to get it to where I wanted it with the rivets being nicely set and without the head being proud
@@AustinManke Thought I'd let you know I shaved down the red cover on the swivel rivet set and used it for the first time today. It worked GREAT! That Boeing Style rivet set That I was using is now at the back of the drawer and won't be used again.
@@bertschb that’s great to hear! I was curious if you’d end up liking it. Thanks for letting me know. Such a handy tool to have when it’s working properly. Happy building!
Looks like a good chair for the job. Great video showing all the steps.
Oh it was! And thank you!

@@AustinManke Thanks for the feedback. I'll remove some of the red rim on the rivet set. Did you remove about half of it???
