I'm so happy for you!! I bought myself a very expensive sewing machine. I said it was for my retirement, ha ha, house wives never retire. I plan to make charity quilts etc. but I do like fancy things too. I love Freddy. So many sewers have a cat to help them. Maybe I need one too. I have two sergers, one my girlfriend gave me when she realized she wasn't using it. It is very basic and old. Then I found a newer one at a thrift store for peanuts. I had to buy a foot peddle and plug, but it will do me for now. After my sewing machine I can't get a serger yet.

I too decided to purchase a Jaguar overlocker based on the recommendations of an independent sewing machine service engineer and a sewist/service engineer based near Manchester who regularly unboxes/reviews machines. Both pointed out that the important machine workings are all metal and well-engineered. Apparently some Baby Lock overlockers are actually Jaguar machines. An excellent choice! xx

I can see a sparkle in your eyes. Amazing how some purchases can put a little perk in our lives. Especially after being down or frustrated with parts of our hobbies.
I don't have a serger/overlocker, and don't know that I will get one, as I don't make enough garments each year to justify the cost. However, I enjoy seeing someone else unbox a serger and seeing them run a test. Compared to the other unboxing videos I've seen, the stitch you showed was very pretty, even with the edge of the fabric, and wasn't showing tension issues. Am so happy for you!

Love my serger! Yes, compare them. How exciting! When I got my new serger, it came with extra feet, too. I had no idea that a serger could do anything really useful besides a standard overlock stitch. So happy for you!

I have bought the self threading Babylock which I love. A huge upgrade from my 30 yr old Phaff that was torture to thread. I recently did a overlocking course and feel that if I had of done it earlier I would have mastered threading my old overlocker. Your new machine looks to really well designed.

WOW! that overlocker has some really nice features. I hate mine (a singer) I had a much nicer one about a decade ago but it broke and I wish I'd spent more time and money replacing it with something better.

Just be aware that when using black thread the static will build up and could end up with slipped stitches and you may end up have to rethread the machine a fair few times. I used to have a singer overlocker but it’s was awful with black thread and used to jump about when going at a decent speed. Thankfully I got rid of it and went with the Bernina was the best decision ever. It handles everything I throw at it and the stitch quality is amazing. The nets can be really handy with woolly nylon. Would highly recommend working your way thru the manual with scraps of fabric, it really helps you understand the machine and how to use all the feature and accessories to the fullest. I know a lot of people avoid manuals but it really helps you to understand how to solve any issues that may pop up. Hope you enjoy your new machine
Thanks for the advice. It should be okay with black thread. I believe this machine is worlds apart from singer sergers. Many in the comments who know sergers is saying it’s one of the better machines on the market. I agree regarding the manual that’s why i recommended everyone read theirs too 😊

Ha! Lucky you! I'm still using the Pfaff overlocker I bought in 1992! I'm not complaining, it's a great machine and much quieter than its new sibling. The fact that the whole front opens up is fantastic! I wish they all did that. Having it pre-threaded with different coloured threads is so extra. So thoughtful. Really is beginner friendly. The cutter! That's the first one I've seen like that on an overlocker. I remember that Billy Matsunaga uses a Jaguar sewing machine so it must be a popular brand in Japan; that's the first time I saw the brand. Thank you for sharing. Everyone loves an unboxing!
Thank you. Nothing wrong with an old machine if it works well. I plan on having this one a long time (hold me to that lol unless I get the opportunity for an air threader that is). I know the jaguar brand for other things (cars and clothing) but didn’t know they do sewing machines. The websites about them says they build machines for singer, bernina etc too!
My Jaguar overlocker arrived on Friday. It's the same as 'Frister & Rossman', so it'll be great quality x
Congratulations on your purchase. You will love it. I have 2 -the epochloch 055d which has got to be at least 20 yrs old now. I use it for cut and sew for my knitting machine. Still going strong with original knives. All I do is keep it clean and occasional lubricate. The 2nd is the Jaguat 489 which is similiar to yours which I use for dress making. I love the Jaguar brand so much I bought myself an ex demo Jaguar sewing machine. The Jaguar brand is definiitely built to last and give good service.
A new toy is always fun! I’d love to see a video on different feet, where and how to use them. My machine only came with the standard foot so it would be nice to see if buying a set of different feet would benefit me. Thanks x

Thanks. I mentioned in my dumbest sewing purchases video that I’d bought it and never used it. I think I may have mentioned it in my coverstitch video too. It was silly to have a machine gathering dust. I had it 4 years and maybe used it ten times. I think selling it and getting an upgraded serger was a better use of my money as I use a serger more than my sewing machine. That’s the essence behind my thinking there.

I think we all do that I know I barely used my other one for more than a straight seam. I did once do a lettuce hem though. This new serger had some settings that will encourage different things so we will delve into that a bit more!

Thank you Kathy! I haven’t wanted to sew so badly for a while!! I knew of Jaguar as a high end car manufacturer here in the UK. There’s also a clothing company but not sure if it’s the same company. I read this brand of serger make sergers for other brands of sewing machine such as Bernina and singer!

This is amazing. I didn't know you could get Jaguar overlockers. I love that it is all metal. It sounds great and all those features and the best thing is that opening. This is actually cheaper than my Janomi. I had a look but it is no longer available. There is possibly a newer model now or another seller selling it.
The metal chasis is my fav part because when I sew it stays where it is. My janome goes for a walk around the block lol 😂
@Penguinandpear I am looking at the singer heavy duty sewing machine for that reason ( I got side tracked) it is very affordable and I often have trouble sewing thick fabric like coats so as I have got the hang of threading the overlocker I think I'm getting one. After having a computerised one I love that this isn't. It's simple and I like that. I hardly use any of the fancy things.

I got a strong brother ST4031HD coverstitch with a serger two machines in one that comes with a tray for scraps extended table thread holder netting couple of tools and it cost me $210 plus $40 for protection
You’re going to love the Jaguar I have the Jaguar 2015DF my first overlocker, and it stitches beautifully. Very easy to thread as the front opens up🧡🙌🏾

Oh you lucky girl! I also have a Jaguar serger, they aren't very common in the US. I love mine . I've had mine about 25 years I hope you will enjoy yours as much as I have enjoyed mine.

My old White serger is from 1988 per the date on the back of the instruction booklet. I got it used from a local shop, and it worked ok last time I used it (some years ago!), but your enthusiasm is so infectious that it sure makes me want a new one! : )
Ahh thank you. My first serger was a second hand Machine and it didn’t work so took it back and part exchanged for my janome. The janome worked good for the first four years but it was getting harder to use so I didn’t want to use it. That’s why I’m so excited for this one! Probably wouldn’t have been so excited if I bought the same model again.
I'm not a serger- user but was impressed with the fact that it was threaded and so many things were included. I bought a new Phaff serger 20 yrs. ago and I had to sell it because it was too much of constant problem.

I have been scared to buy one because of the complicated threading but when I saw your review and how the door at the bottom swings open all the way, I decided to get one. I could not find a Jaguar in the USA so I searched hi and low for a substitute and i find one! I purchased the Babylock Vibrant and I couldn't be more pleased! I was able to easily thread it with the instructions and the door wide open. 😍

Ooh this looks like a great machine! I have had the Brother 1034D for 16 years or so, and it is still going strong but I always thought that if it ever stops working I would want to replace it with an air threader (a woman can dream haha!) but this Jaguar overlocker looks like a great alternative. From your test sew the Jaguar seems like a definite step up from a basic machine - more powerful and smooth...and I LOVE that it opens up completely! I can't wait to see what you make with it! enjoy your new toy :)

@@Penguinandpear I got a Brother M343D. This is only my first couple years sewing so I just wanted something cheap and simple to see if I liked it. I make and sell scrunchies so was going to venture into selling bags too.
I looked at that serger it looks like a good first machine. Congratulations! Do your scrunchies sell well? It’s something I’ve considered.
