Hi Gurtej, only just found your site. Very impressed with your mastery of the Axe Fx II. Your patches sound great. Thanks for sharing all your hard work and enthusiasm 👍
Hey bro! THANKS for that!!!!!! You just NAILED it! I was looking in the AxeChange for a preset that comes at least close to it, but YOU did it! Congratulations!
hi. i just remembered that i didnt reply for the reseting the factory settings. i remembered while i was watching this video. thnx for the very simple explanation how to do it. i did it and my axe speed up perfectly. here is another great video as usual :). waiting for another tutorial fingercrossed :). can you also make heavier sounds (like maybe metallica/slipknot etc) and maybe some bass tone dailing because there isnot much tutorials for bass. cheers from Turkiye.
At the 5 min mark, I’m excited! This is a tough one! Tried to do this with a Rockman preamp and it was hard, I think I failed. But at the same time, OF COURSE I failed! (Due to copyright claim that video is private). In my early videos I didn’t have any gear, I used to connect my ADA MP1 straight to the computer. Without an amplifier and speaker, the sound of a preamp direct to console is very thin. So I recognized that sound straight away. That’s why Piezo’s work so well, they are preamped direct. I feel like Phil had time to develop this track and brought it to Mutt Lange where it was further processed into what we know today. [I think] It started as a thin preamp recording, but was compressed at the studio and EQ’d to push the top end frequencies and remove the bottom. It’s not the only aspect of the recording, there’s a palm muted guitar in the mix. Reverb, so important. Tone tweaking is a lot of fun, I want you to know I watch all your videos start to finish, even though I am not on the Fractal platform, yet. In time I’ll be part of the community. Please bear with me. Anything Mutt Lange does is tough to reproduce. Even if you have the same gear, getting a recording to sound like his involves the incredible clarity of his studio gear. High quality studio gear gives clear results, but so does the modern emulations, known to have punch and full frequency. This is why I think you can get it with Axe gear. I would like to hear what happens when you remove the amp/cab blocks and then push that signal level using compression. You might need to trim away line hiss by shelving the top end or getting a notch EQ directly on the offender. My Rockman has that offender! So does my TC1210. Old gear was not perfect, by any means. I’m surprised Mutt allowed Phil to use the Rockman! They would also plug their guitars straight into the console mic preamp. They loved to do that! They could take any signal and make it work, but their toolbox included comp, EQ, and copious Reverb. Why can’t you live in my neighborhood, so I could come over and hang at your house? Congrats Gurtej. More people discovering how much fun it is to explore the world of recorded sound. Kindly, Jim
Jim! Thank you so much brother! It's so so good to hear your feedback and thoughts. Really awesome stuff!. Did not know you have a Rockman! Would love to watch that video of yours, is there a way to share a link? To be honest, I haven't really owned any real amps in my life, or any iconic gear such as the pedals and preamps. All I have owned is a POD HD 500, a Korg AX1000 and now the Axe FX. Have played through many amps in my live rig, but never really dug so deep into a sound and trying to understand how the whole system works, or how it worked for the rockstars of our times. I like your idea of going in directly and pushing it with the compressor, would probably give it a try. Might need a lot tweaking as well, and trust me I have already spent so much time tweaking this tone, that it kind of scares me hahaa. It's incredible to hear stories about the actual gear and the recording process of the artists, and I do agree, whatever I read about the Rockman, it sounds surprising that it was used on the album. But again, who knows if its the actual sound of the rockman we are hearing or heavily compressed, studio altered tone! Wish you were in the neighbourhood too! I could have tried all that historic and iconic gear with you and we would have great jams :) Someday! Thank you for watching my videos brother, even though you don't have an Axe. That makes it really incredible for me! Cheers Jim!
Gurtej Singh, I finally got off probation for uploading copyrighted material so here is that video I did of Hysteria. I know you’re busy so I’ll keep this up for a little while and then it’s going Private again. I am doing channel maintenance and removing over half of the videos and updating the Playlists. I noticed that YT recommended feed is recommending chains of videos from a single artist. I was worried that some of my trash videos were being chain recommended to my subscribers and wanted to take out the trash. Out with the old and in with the new. ua-cam.com/video/YwRRVhyJ2PI/v-deo.html
Hey man, thanks a lot for sharing and coming back to this thread. The tone from the Rockman sounds much more closer to the original! I wish I could ever lay my hands on one of those units. Some of the clean tones from that unit are incredible! Great video and playing brother.
So glad it was helpful! I always prefer to explain what I chose and why, I think it makes more sense that way. I completely agree with your thoughts! Cheers and thank you!
Thanks much. I think they should work. Have you tried FracTool to convert them? Or simply dial them with me in the video. The interfaces for Axe Edit are almost the same. Hope this helps! Cheers!
@@GurtejSinghGuitar I don't have one. I was researching on lower Fractals vs like a Helix. Curious if presets like this would work on the cheaper versions.
Very cool. I subbed. Love the artists and of course my AxeFx2. Was thinking try Andy James tone on Arrival CD. Satriani pitch block for Hill of Skulls on Surfing. The pitch block confounds me with Satch and Vai legacy pitch shifting/Harmon
Thanks for the support and feedback! I do want to cover Andy James as well sometime soon! I do have satriani on the channel, so hope you do check those out. Cheers!
I really enjoy seeing how you approach this, and loved the Extremist video as well. You mentioned the use of the Tri-Chorus for the Axe-FX III, which doesn't have the quad chorus. Where there are differences like that, any guidance you could provide would be a great addition to future videos.
Thank you so much for your feedback! yes would love to call out potential differences and approaches to follow between the Axe FX 2 and 3, but sometimes it gets really challenging as I do not have both the units. I do get your point though, and I will try to incorporate what I can. Cheers!
I love the video bro and thanks for taking time to share your knowledge. I followed the video step by step and for some reason the Rhythm has no high gain bite and sounds week compared to your tone. FWIW - I'm running my Axe Fx II XL into the Power Amp section of my Line 6 Spider Valve 212 which has Celestion 12" Vintage 30 speakers. Would the speakers impact the tone much? What about actual tube amp volume ... I can only turn the master volume up a very small fraction of a turn before it produces incredibly loud audio. Does running a tube amp on very low master volume, even though the audio is loud, impact the tone from the Axe Fx? I have Yamaha HS8 Studio Monitors so maybe I can try with them to see how different the tone is ... thanks for any input you can provide.
Thanks a lot for your feedback. I have actually never paired the Axe FX II with an actual Tube amp till now. I have always used my studio monitors or the headphones. The speakers you are listening through does matter unless your speaker is set to complete flat. I do find my headphones to be a little sharper compared to my studio monitors. I think try out the tone on a pir of studio monitors and a pair of good headphones and see if there any difference. Some amps usually tend to get very loud, and may not offer the best experience in lower volumes in my opinion, but the difference should not be that great. Hope this helps man.
Sounds great! I’ve been wanting to get this tone for a long time and you’ve done a great job. After listening to the play through, the clean strummed chords sound good but the main arpeggiated part sounds like the chorus effect is too high and maybe the sound is a bit thick. I think the other commenter is onto something with the piezos, or running straight into a mixer. Another thought was that this could have been done with a Strat. From playing around with U2 stuff, that very bright, ringing sound is hard to get with a humbucker, especially something fairly high power and flat like a Petrucci pickup. You can get somewhat close with a split coil sound and dramatically cutting the low end out. If you haven’t seen the documentary in the Classic Albums series about this album, definitely find that. I believe they say that the arpeggiated chords is actually recordings of Phil Collen playing each note individually and then Mutt Lange making the arrangement in a sequencer.
Thank you so so much for taking the time for such detailed feedback! Really appreciate it. The track is so so heavily layered, that it's incredibly hard to hear everything clear. I do hear quite a bit of fatness in the tone, but it's probably just my ears playing on me after hearing the track a million times, so you are probably right :) Yes, very possible a strat like guitar was used, but I am quite certain it sounds like a humbucker to me, but I could be wrong again. For this tone, I really wanted to go after a chimy yet fat sort of a tone, as it was somewhat what I heard. But you are absolutely right, the Petrucci pickups are certainly more hot and flat, but it's the only humbucker guitar I have, so I try to use it to the best I can :) I would love to checkout the series you mentioned, I will look it up. Once again, I thank you a lot for your detailed feedback, and I really appreciate your support on the channel!
@@GurtejSinghGuitar I listened to this again and there's something else happening, which I think is another guitar layered over the guitar doing the arpeggiated riff. There is a distinct pick scraping sound, but only on some notes. This could be something similar to the way Edge plays, which is using a textured pick that scrapes as he picks. It's a big part of his tone and leads to a brighter, more chimey sound than using a regular pick.
YES!!!! Congrats man. Here's to the next 100k :D
Thanks my man! I couldn't have made it here without your support and help! Thank you and congrats on your 40K subs! That's HUGEEE!
