John, Your information and different tech tricks are just phenomenal. I'd love to have you for my guitars . Def Leopard is amazing and you are part of the reason why. Thanks so much for your work
Kris, Great tech show as always. These tech guys are amazing. Real artists in themselves. The difference they make in tone and sound. A brass pick?? Wow. Great show.
@@johnzoccomusic Hope to see you the next the band visits Florida. I work the shows. Enjoy watching your amazing ability with a guitar. Thanks again John.
Guy in one of my FB groups said he ran in to Phil at a coffee shop in Virginia Beach this morning. Said he was wearing a Def Leppard shirt and Phil said, "nice shirt."
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE these interviews with guitar techs and their individual approaches to their client's instruments. Please see if you can get either Reb Beach and/or his tech on. Reb has the BEST rock guitar tones!!!
I'll do what I can John, thanks for the suggestion! Glad to hear that you like the series, I love doing these and I guess you can tell that. haha! //Kris
Wow. He literally gave what looks like his entire setup routine. Awesome! So much info, I feel like I have to make notes. Just wish the camera was panned in close so we could see how exactly the foam is used and more importantly the tool for setting up intonation on the FR. Couldn't see that , and that's probably the most challenging thing to do correctly on the FR. Great Guitar Tech. Makes sense why he's with Phil!
The tool is called The Key - it’s available at Fu-Tone (also where we get the titanium parts for the Floyd). I’d be happy to answer any questions you have about the foam or anything else.
Actually, I think you should have more guitar techs on your channel... That was super chill, just hanging and hearing what can fail on you. I've never heard of the trem spring getting pulled out by a belt! When you've got 13's and heavy spring tension, who would have thought it possible? When he was going by eye, I was wondering about his credentials; however, his time with Dream Theatre vetted him for me.
I used to play .012s and would break strings in nearly every show. Now I play .008s and never ever break them. I think the idea that heavier strings don't break is false. The additional tension offsets any strength you get from increased gauge.
Hi Kris, I am a big fan of your channel and the Thomann channel. Yep Phil Collen is awesome; this was fun to watch. You have also asked us what we would like to see next, so I am a big Gibson Les Paul fan. How about something from a Gibson Les Paul artist(s) LP on the workbench. But who is actively touring with their LP? I don't know, but for a change of pace can it please not be Slash related? How about the techs of John Sykes, Vivian Campbell, Joel Hoekstra, Eliot Easton, Alex Lifeson, surprise us I am sure it will be great. :)
Cool video! Is it possible to do an Andy Timmons or a Joe Satriani setup video? I know both use a super low action on their guitars, just curious about the whole procedure…
2:30 Totally agree. In hindsight, the super-skinny neck trend really limited playing style, etc. Not everyone has spider fingers, and it's nice to be able to play an altered chord and hear all the notes. And with distortion, those chords need all the voices to get all those sweet over-tones.
re picks ... brass is non-magnetic. I used a steel pick for a while and I could "hear it" through my pickups when doing the fast Eddie style trem picking.
Someone PLEASE help me...I purchase a DK24 HH 2PT and this thing will NOT stay in tune, especially the G string!! I've seen others that can just wale on the trem with no issues, while I can't even do a simple bend or vibrato!! ☹️🤬🤬☹️
John Zocco is a great Guitar Tech. But he's really a 80s guitar shredder from upstate NY. He moved to Nashville where he's played with Top country artists. He could fill in at anytime if Phil got sick.
I’m here if anyone has questions. Thanks Kris for the interview - it was fun!
Thanks for doing this!!
Been a Def Lep fan since HIGH N DRY!!
I’ve met Phil several times... always super great guy!!

Absolutely adore Phil, such an unsung hero and modest cool guy!

Cool tips! Love how the techs all bring little gems and tricks to the table! Great interview Kris! 😊👍

I play Jackson because of Phil!

That was awesome thanks. Now I can work on getting my PC1 set up more like Phil’s 🔥🤘🏼
These are the coolest videos! I’m binging all of them this week.
This series of videos by Thomann are Great. Lot's of cool info and instructional stiff. Thanks guys!
I love that Thomann is doing videos like this. Keep on going!
We give our best, glad to hear that Zack! Cheers //Kris
Super great video I love listening to other Tec way of doing things. You can really learn a lot if you just listen. Thank you so much Chris.👍🤘

Big hex tools are easier to find in the tool kit too!
Brass picks…🤔 I needa try that.
Me too man, I'm a little worried about the health of my 10 gauge strings though... haha! //Kris
This is a great interview! Thank you for so much insight! Big Leppard fan! 🤘🏻🎸✌🏻
Thanks for watching! //Kris
Great video! I learned so much and absolutely love Phil's Jackson PC-1. But I'm biased I own 2 of Jackons PC-1's :)

Thanks for watching Steve! //Kris
If possible please indulge in the bells and whistles of Phil's signature guitar. Any of these available to install?
As always great interview, Thanks.
This Video Rocked bro thanks so much for this ,,,,
My pleasure Michael! //Kris
Where do techs find the factory set up specs and wiring diagrams? is it true all jacksons are setup the same?
Shoutout to Park Tools :)

Invite Nuno's tech next!

Heavy gauge 2.5 step down tuning is due to Joe Elliott’s vocal range stepping down.

Those titanium saddles alone are $600
I’m pretty sure Phil gets artist pricing.
At FU Tone there $795.00
Wtf. It's more expensive than my guitar lol.
Just your average 13 gauge string set, brass pick, pure Titanium Floyd Rose bridge guitar setup. 😅
😆 Such a "regular" setup, isn't it? //Kris
