The thing about this update that I love is that this set was like, my holy grail as a kid. I was poor and it was expensive, but I asked for it every year anyway, and I never got it. Now that it's retired, it's even more expensive, like twice the price. But because they have an update that's yet to be retired, now as an adult I can finally have the set I always wanted as a kid.
Meanwhile I was never able to get either so I’m piecing it together from a combination of my own collection and Bricklink lol
I'm years late but this is hands down the coolest piece I've ever seen. The fact that they had areas bleed into each other and have cross compatibility for various features is awesome.
It's not awesome in my opinion just because of the set's price, I think they should've done a much better job for charging you 500$ for this set when it came out. At the 500$ price tag I would expect something akin to a Collectors Edition.

Agreed. Easily one of the best Lego sets I've ever seen. So many mini figures and the different sections from each movies is cool. Shame about the price tho 😭😫

There is a little function they didn't mention, that one of the levers on the tractor beam control "deactivates" the pylon by making the little blue energy column fall down inside it. Small thing, but at least you can actually have Obi Wan do the deactivation like in the movie.

Took me 20 hours over 4 days to build this, around 5 hours a day. Not easy when you’re missing pieces but I improvised and now it’s a cool piece in my collection

Lego sets need this kind of functionality. Like when lego releases a huge Star destroyers set but includes like 2 or no mini figures and 0 it’s missing in a huge opportunity. Like I wanna see some interior design. A bridge, sleeping quarters, the whole package. And toms of figures.

I somehow have the feeling the "torture room" is supposed to be the room where Darth Vader got his armor (don't think that was on the actual Death Star though). This would also fit with that workbench, plus the table movement mechanic.

To be honest, I guess you're both right. Just think about it. After the events in RotS they had no time to waste. They couldn't build something just for this. So it's (IMO) very likely they indeed used such an android(?) maintenance room for this. So it is a room like that, just not the very same one.
It's a droid maintenance room, due to threepio's reference to droid maintenance in anh.

contemplating on whether to buy this or not. I have all these characters and also have made miniature mocs of some of these scenes. (throne room, and planning room) But all the rooms open and in levels together like that looks really enticing to have.
I still would love if it had an outer shell covering all the rooms to make it actually look like the deathstar, then it would be more fitting for the price

I don't think LEGO took the time to fix some of the key issues of the original Death Star set, such as the inaccessibility and emptiness of the very bottom section. It is a nice thing to see so many new and exclusive minifigures after the simple 2008 ones but unless I'd missed out on buying the original, I won't buy this set. I'm gonna have the Ghostbusters HQ instead, it looks a lot more worth the money, in my opinion. Awesome review, BrickVault, have a nice day/night! Bye!

+Ahnissi there wasn't any in ESB. They were constructing the Second Death Star at that time, and wasn't operational or shown until Return of the Jedi, which takes place two years later.

You get 2 official ones in the set but you can easily make it 4 by using your Han and Luke Disguises If they make another Death Star Make 4 or even 6 official Stormtroopers you cant really cant have too many stormtroopers in a set like this

The Death Star would be like magic. That would be a lot of blasters.
The 2 glaring differences to me is the tie fighter the guns on the side of the cockpit and the lower turret in the original the turret was a large technic cannon fun fact if you move the tie advanceds wings you kinda get a normal tie fighter if you don't look at the back

Looks almost the same the older one. My favorite new thing with the newone is bether minifigs but I wish Lego could have make more changes and dont have 100 dollar or so much more for just 200 more pieces than the old one.
