I think a good idea Dji should establish is when you loose control with the mobile phone the drone should automatically fly to a location to when it was last receiving the signal from the phone. It had AI features built in it so I hope with more firmware updates to come this tiny thing could get better and more friendly for people to use!
they could have add RTH function with mobile app. in the end the drone knows where, it has geofence, it knows GPS location of the take off. They just want people to buy the RC. But as you suggest, that's at least they can do.. lost signal.. move back 5-10 meter of the previous location and done
You can't connect to a drone which you have already paired before using the Connection Guide. Go out to the Home screen and wait for the Device Found to appear in the bottom left of the screen, click Connect to reconnect. Remember the max distance for phone connection is 50m. Also a good idea to monitor the wifi bars as you fly further
I just watched on another video..and it has a RTH feature which would have brought the drone back to you but the RTH only works if you are using one of the controllers. I'm so glad you did'nt lose it. Stuck in the air like that you remained very cool. Awesome.
There are many possible solutions to this issue; however, when using a cellular phone, stay close; only fly a few meters from you. It does not make sense to start flying from the roof of a building using cellular phones. It was an excellent educational demonstration.
I find it funny that people are trying to use and test this drone like a 'real drone'. It's not. It's a flying tripod for social media posts, nothing more. Yes yes yes, you can fly it like a FPV, and remote it like a Mavic Pro... but come on people... use it for its strengths. It's a tripod that flies at SHORT RANGE. LOL (Thanks for the video, at least I know what not to do with mine.)
Using a mobile only gives you wifi/Bluetooth connection and a short range which is best used for close range use, selfies follow mode ect., gps will only be active if flown with main controller to give greater range.
Crazy i know but phones will only pic up a wifi signal for a short distance, along with being on a building with probably heavy wifi use. The phone app is certainly only for close up use ,once the correct controller is used it can easilly reach 1km before retuning home due to low battery
@FlightMode1 yeah this is a big flaw if the rc controller can give a home point I'm pretty sure a modern day phone can do this too. I'm surprised it doesn't have rth as the safety feature from the factory. But it's good to see people doing this so dji can add it in a future firmware update.apart from that it looks like a very versatile little piece of kit.
brother its normal for drones to have lesser range when in city or building area due to multiple interference . Dji test and advertise their product based on perfect condition. No wind, interference and etc
The answer is simple...You are in an area where different frequencies are interferring with yours...it happens where many people are using mobile phones, fm stations etc....try it in the country side, you can go 7km + with no interferance.
This was an excellent video extremely well presented. The same thing happened to me yesterday - except mine was tossed out of the sky by the wind and crash landed approx 50ft below in a field. Didn't see where it had come down. I did find that when i went to my flight record in the app that it had recorded my flight path. You can watch it as a video. I could then see exactly where it went down where the tracking stopped. I was thrilled to find it after only 10 mins searching around that position on the map. It still works perfectly! I think it was because I had mobile data switched on that the app could record the flight path. Of course you could always use screen record too when flying as another back up to locating the drone. I couldn't use 'find my drone' because the drone battery had run out.
My neo just came in today and I’m only flying it indoor until I buy a remote control. I’m not flying it outside with only phone since I saw this video haha
Hi @FlightMode1, may I know if you still experience the issue of not being able to search for devices at close range? If you still encounter disconnection during manual flight, you can provide the LOG when the problem occurred, and our engineers will assist to further analysis. You could provide us by a sharedrive link, thanks.

Is DJI fly app doesn't have the RTH on signal loss feature for dji neo? You should have checked it on video. Do your phone support 5G? I heard 5G phones have more range.
If you have the controller that goes with it, it has an RTH or you can still control it on that distance. Thank btw at least we know how it reacts when you lost signal on it.

The DJI Neo drone has a Wi-Fi control range of UP TO 50 meters when connected to a smartphone. Thats BEST CASE. Next time ypu want to test signal, go to an open field. Flying a Neo off a building until you cant connect to it anymore seems a bit silly in retrospect, doesnt it? 😂😮
The reason maybe you lost connection is because you are on a roof of the building where there are lots of antennas, electrical cables and lots of metal minimizing the wifi signal between your phone and the Neo. (I might be wrong)
